I don't think people who don't like Jily get Lily like I do because she was abandoned by two of the people she loved the most in the world: her big sister, Petunia, who gave up on her just because she was different and was most definitely envious of her, and her childhood best friend, Severus, who she had always found comfort in when things weren't right but ultimately chose his blood supremacy beliefs over their shared love and pain. And then there's James Potter, who despite everything (despite Lily purposely pushing him away for years) never gave up on her. Instead, he grew into the kind of person who could stand by her side. Even until the end, he gave up his last breath to defend her and their son because he loved her more than life itself.
