it’s time for the “overanalyzing one-off lines” show!

so the very first thing magnus says when he sees pit in chapter 2 of kid icarus: uprising is as follows:

“Well, I didn’t expect to see an angel here. Hope this doesn’t mean I’ve kicked the bucket.”

now, i’m not sure if you’re aware, but that’s a really weird thing for someone to say, and it’s even more weird that no one comments on it. pit and palutena go on talking about unrelated things, as if that’s a totally normal and expected thing for magnus to say.

now, if you’re like me, you probably also didn’t really react to this line the first few times you saw it. it’s the second chapter, kiu has a lot of slightly-odd lines which turn out to be foreshadowing. me, personally? my first thought was “oh, i guess angels are probably associated with escorting the dead to the afterlife,“ and then i moved on.

they’re not, though. that’s what reapers do. and there’s no way humans have these two races mixed up. just fucking look at them.

do they look anything alike to you??? no. they don’t. which raises the question of why, exactly, magnus said that.

soooooo i saw @farvaduvet‘s excellent roleswap and my gremlin brain started getting Ideas. mostly relating to clones because that’s all i ever think of.

no idea how accurate it is to the original vision for the au, but i’m imagining that swap!pittoo wants very much for everyone to think he’s cool and edgy and absolutely not at all a living ray of sunshine. naturally, the mirror of truth jumps right on that for its Truth Clone, so now there’s an angelic puppy-dog running around and messing up dp’s ~harsh and brooding reputation~

lifefuel, the sequel should come out any day now (T_T)

— with matpat's final theory being posted, i realize my childhood has finally concluded. as absurd as it sounds, growing up and older has been a deep fear of mine since i don't even know when. opportunities closing, the mind and body wearing down, it all made me sad and tired for the longest time. but matpat today made me realize that there's more to life than being scared of what comes next. things never being the same again means that i can take those memories with me, that they're precious, that they can eventually help me as much as i've somehow indirectly helped matpat, however small my contribution might of been. even though the future and what i'm feeling right now is indescribable, i know i will survive and learn from it in some way.

but of course, that's just a theory

i don't think it's possible to be an anime fan and to escape the works of Akira Toriyama. i don't even like action manga, but i've certainly read Dragon Ball, and it's great! he was a master of the craft, and completely changed the medium. other influential mangaka of his era, like Hirohiko Araki with JoJo's, or Yoshihiro Togashi with YuYu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter, owe so much of their careers to Toriyama. i promise you One Piece would not exist without Dragon Ball, and this is still only talking about action manga. countless children across the world read or watched Dragon Ball and felt inspired to make their own art, going into comics, animation, writing, or anything else because of this. Toriyama is a legend, and his influence is massive
