If I See Someone Describing The Readers Skin Tone ONE MORE TIME

Little random rant time.

I’m honestly so tired of people treating minors like they are mindless children who can’t/won’t/don’t make their own decisions. Yeah, a 17-year-old can be a fucking child but so can a 23-year-old?? Like??? At the ripe old age of 19, aka JUST BARELY AN ADULT I am still very much young minded and dependent and pretty similar to most 17-year-olds out there. Like honestly, your age doesn’t change your life and perception. You know what makes you mature? Experiences. Going to college made me more mature. Graduating and finally leaving high school made me more mature. Deciding to stop letting abusive people manipulate me into continuing relationships and friendships made me more mature. I am not necessarily any smarter or mature or more capable than any 17 or even 16-year-old out there. I have met 15-year-olds that have more intelligence and maturity and life experience than some fucking 30-year-olds I’ve known. The only thing being 18 does is give you legal rights to some parts of your life. 18 is not some magical age where you suddenly should only NOW be held responsible for your actions or decisions. Maybe legally it’s different, but personality and societally, you are no different. For fucks sake you aren’t even a “legal adult” in Japan or Korea until you’re 20.

Stop acting like minors are infants and should be safeguarded like little fragile glass dolls. And if you ARE going to infantilize and overprotect, overprotect ANY young person. Not just “minors.” An 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 year old shouldn’t be any less protected than a 17 year old, at least in my opinion. Anyone young is still really fucking liable to have shitty stuff happen to them and not be able to handle it. I’m just as uncomfortable at 19 being hit on by an old man as I was at 17.

Also, give minors a voice. They have a right to be heard, just like any other adult. Your opinion isn’t less because your age is. Do you know how many revolutionary-minded young people there are in this world? So many you’d lose count. We have so many problems that we decide to segregate because of age. Yes, we have our adult age set in law for a reason, but that reason should not be exploited and blown out of proportion. You do not get to shove your personal societal values onto something that is solely based in reasons of legality and logic.

Okay, sorry if that was super fucking long winded but I needed to get that off my chest. It’s been bothering me. Feel free to ignore the fuck out of this because as per usual it is literally all just my opinion. Probably going to get hate for this. I won’t be surprised.

I know I should be working on the asks I received BUT something has come to my attention that is pissing me off. The way people make their books only available for specific race, specific height, specific hair texture and specific weight range.

I am a black girl but I am NOT dark. I am very light due to my mix and I’ve received barely any of my father’s complexion meaning I’m just slightly tan. So I, a person who has listened to black and brown authors and readers talk about the bs that’s produced by probably every NB author here, wil tell you how to be more inclusive.

BLUSHING! Black and brown women DONT get red for obvious reasons that we’re all aware of instead of saying things like :

“ a red/pink tint crept onto her face”

WHY’S THIS WRONG YOU MAY ASK?

Such words create imagery that the person has fair/light skin which is very unfair if you claim to make books for everyone.

Use alternatives like:

“Her face became very heated and a feeling of bashfulness took over emotions”

WHY IS THIS RIGHT?

It does NOT specify ones race or skin tone and instead gives emotion and doesn’t paint imagery of the characters looks which is very important when writing x readers.

HEIGHT! When writing you have to be mindful of girls of all heights because not very girl is like 4’11. Stop writing things like:

“He looked down into her e/c eyes-“ WRONG!

WHY?

You are specifiying that’s she’s short when the characters like 5’9 (I’m 5’2 they would have to look down so I have the privilege)

Instead write:

“He adjusted his gaze to look into her e/c eyes”

WHY IS THIS RIGHT?

I am not specifying wether he looked up,down or cross eyed to look at her am I?

HAIR TEXTURE! I have 4b/4c hair and other girls hair have curls or just textured hair where you cant run a hand through it. Stop writing things like:

“He ran his hands through her hair-‘’ UGH HAVE I TAUGHT YOU NOTHING?!

You’re being specific again! And especially when you in stuff like blonde or dirty brunette or whatever hair shades are called.

Write this instead:

“His hand ran over her nape petting her hair lightly as his hands trailed down to rest a hand on her waist”

IF DIFFERENT ACTION WHY RIGHT?

It doesn’t have anything in the line that will single the reader out because if you write books that are supposed to be for everybody (xreaders) doesn’t need to show any characteristics because you don’t know what the readers look like.

Also don’t always talk about washing hair in fics with showers. You can talk about having freshly washed hair but don’t talk about washing hair in showers.

WEIGHT! There has been a rise in x!chubby readers on this app and Wattpad BUT if you make xreaders and are not specifying wether its for black, chubby and tall readers and its just an xreader and you don’t specify don’t say things like:

“He picked her up with EASE and began to walk around” DICKHEAD-

Sugawara is not going to be picking up a 190lb girl with ease. (Iwaizumi maybe but that’s another convo for another time-)

Say if the character is strong say:

“He hoisted the girl onto his back and began his movements to ( destination)”

Or maybe they are able to pick up a heavy person but YOU NEVER KNOW!

Humans or people with average abilities (injured person perspective):

“He put an arm around his shoulder, wrapping his other arm around the girl’s waist to make it easier for her to lean for support”

If anything I said bothered you its not my fucking problem and you just need to reevaluate yourself- Matta fact just start putting x white! Skinny! Short! Long Haired! Straight Haired ! Reader the folks wont read your shit

“reblogs aren’t important you’re just whiny”

yeah because when you see this

“reblogs Aren’t Important You’re Just Whiny”

tell me you don’t get annoyed.

tumblr’s algorithm only cares about posts that are reblogged, it doesn’t count likes. posts don’t get promoted or circulated when they only have likes (the way instagram functions), only reblogs matter for increasing reach on tumblr as a platform.

"O--ONE PUMPKIN SPICE latte, p--please.” You felt your hands shake, you had a lecture in a few minutes and you were close to being late. The barista nodded, going off to the side to prepare your drink. You looked around the café, it was cozy and warm. You made a mind note to frequent here in the future.

The barista then handed you the drink, you giving her the right amount cash in return. You took a sip of it, taking in the bitter sweetness.

“(Y/n), how could you possibly drink this evil thing and not get sick?!”

You were walking with Aiko to lunch. You giggled, shrugging your shoulders. “I don’t know, I usually take it black but every once in a while I change it up.”

Aiko rolled her eyes at your playfulness. You were so busy paying attention to her that you didn’t realize that you bumped into a toned chest. Splash! Your sweet coffee spilt all over his shirt. Your eyes widened in realization, quickly grabbing some napkins from your backpack. You felt heat rush to your cheeks. “O--oh my gosh, I am so sorry--”

“It’s fine,” he grunted. You looked up at him for a second, he was tall and seemed to be one of those ‘no bullshit’ kind of guys. There was a noticeable red tint on his cheeks but his expression told a much different story.

You heard a laugh from behind him. It was that boy you asked Aiko about yesterday. “Uh oh, looks like Iwa-chan got coffee all over his uniform.”

“Shut up Shittykawa.”

Aiko grabbed your arm, giving you a ‘lets get out of here’ look and you anxiously nodded. The two boys watched you leave with curiosity, both of them were equally intrigued by you. "What the hell was that, (Y/n)?"

You frowned in embarrassment. "I--I wasn't watching where I was going."

"Well be careful next time, or you'll bump into one of those bastards again. They’re bad news.”

You chuckled, locking arms with her as the two of you continued to stroll through the hallway. “Oh come on Aiko, I think that Oikawa guy seems nice-ish. Do you have some sort of vendetta against the volleyball team?”

“Something like that,” The red-haired girl muttered. Your eyebrows raised, deciding to not tap into her conflict with them.

“Who was the cutie?” Oikawa asked as he and a few other guys changed into their jerseys.

Iwaizumi pulled off his stained shirt and placed it in his duffle bag. He instantly knew who what his friend was referring to. “Some third year transfer. Judging by her slightly mediocre Japanese, she’s American.”

“Ah, she's definitely not like everyone else around here." Oikawa smirked at his the light-green eyed boy. "You know Iwa-chan? Something tells me we'll be seeing her a lot more often."

“Mhm.”

And with that, they headed off to the gym for practice.

You took a drag out of your cigarette. The lecture was quite succinct, only lasting about 30 minutes. Most lessons were straight-forward and to-the-point, which was one of the several perks that came with your college experience.

Sometimes you wondered how you managed to push through after what had happened. It seemed like a never-ending hell, maybe that's why the admission team felt bad for you when you wrote that heartfelt essay. Your phone vibrated, indicating someone was trying to call you. It was your aunt. You sighed, swiping left to hear what she had to say. "..H--hello?"

"(Y/n)? Hi sweetheart, how are you doing?"

"F--fine Auntie, I just c--came from a lecture."

"I see. You know your friend Aiko stopped by yesterday to see if you were still here. Poor thing misses you like hell."

You once again sighed. A part of you did miss your old friends from high school, but sometimes you've got to leave the past in the past. Hell, you moved out of Miyagi for a god-damned reason. Thinking of the past made you want to take another hit of your cigarette. So you did, savoring the ethereal feeling of nicotine entering your lungs.

"..(Y/n)?"

No answer, she instantly knew why. Aunt Em was now becoming irritated with you. "(Y/n), are you smoking again?"

You groaned, hanging up the phone on her. It's not like you were trying to be rude or anything. You hated when she tried to intrude on your bad habits, like a child. And you weren't a fucking child anymore.

You tossed the cigarette, pressing it into the ground. You looked at the time and internally cussed. It was almost 4:30. You had some stupid study session with one of your classmates, he was pretty nice but seemed to be reserved and a no-bullshit kind of guy as well.

You walked to the library, which was like a common-place for the students to hang out it. You spotted him, you were only like 5 or six minutes late. But making an effort to be punctual would establish a better relationship between the two of you.

Your classmate had this studious dark academia-like nature to him, which you found to be pretty hot. It was also his familiarity, he reminded you of someone from the past. You also liked how he was patient with you, given your speech impediment and all. It was pretty rare especially since you hadn’t always been like that.

“(L/n), you’re late.” His non-chalant voice bringing a few shivers down your spine. Obviously, you had gotten over your boy-shyness but you sometimes felt like a part of it was still there.

You quickly bowed your head and played it off with a giggle. “S--sorry Akaashi, I ran into a few things on the way here. It won’t happen again.” He nod

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.” His gunmetal blue eyes boring into your (e/c) ones. He gestured for you to sit next to him to which you immediately followed. Both of you had aspirations within the world of humanities, especially you, who was looking to write a book someday. “So what have you worked on so far?”

You pulled up a word document on your laptop of some drafting ideas for a possible story. Your professor is has assigned each student to write a memoir of the past. “I--I decided to write about the more positive moments of my past, y’know?”

Akaashi just stared, once again showing no emotion. You hadn’t opened up to him at all really. But you knew he somehow suspected, with your aloof and timid nature, that something happened to you.

“Honestly,” he said making eye-contact with the window behind you.

“H--hm?” You internally panicked. Oh no, is my idea too dull-

He then smiled, making your eyes widen. “Honestly I think it’s a great idea, (L/n).”
