i saw a post on twitter by a european saying americans are fake for their random compliments to strangers and their general cheery demeanor and like no. no no no you don’t understand. if you get a random compliment from an american on the street about your outfit or whatever, that is 100% genuine. we mean it. we aren’t lying we are making a small but fleeting connection with you because our lives are shitty but the human condition is enduring. oh god i’m clutching my chest
Sonnet
It is the calm before the storm ahead
a nice chilly breeze shivers down my spine
Though I found it peaceful, you will dread
Worriedly I know you won’t be fine
Before you dance candles surround us
They beam and gleam which shows your figure
I extend a hand in my presence you trust
booming thunder which constantly lingers
When the storm comes I’ll be by your side
Through thick and thin till the tempest yet ends
Cause when I'm with you time also kind
I’ll embrace your warm hand oh dear friend
Await the rainbow for the sun will shine
So then everything will now be fine.
I know it’s not much in the face of everything but I have been finding hope & resilience in palestinian poetry these past few weeks and I created a google drive file of poetry collections by palestinian poets that I will keep updating as I keep on reading. I also recommend checking out @fiercynn’s palestinian poets series for more poets + poetry available online
Our love is a garden
A garden that has rare flowers, bugs of all types,
And weeds.
You and i are the gardeners.
Do you tend to our flowers, our bugs, our weeds?
You let it blossom
We let it blossom into something beautiful
Sometimes we forget to water our garden
To care for it
Vines grew
With thorns we never knew
Till now
It’s okay to step away
It’s okay to take a break
The shovel, the watering can,
All of it will be here waiting
For you
For our love to bloom
I understand that you blink and life goes by
You blink and everything is not
What it once was

Oh ok so it turns out ive been borrowing grief from the future ! it turns out ive been preparing to lose the things i love rather than basking in the light of them while they last. Maybe i should nt do that
