For the entirety of the holidays, Tate took it upon their self to hide within the confines of their apartment with a hefty bottle of vodka because the holidays were the time of year Tate dreaded the most. The most Christmasy thing that Tate could bring their self to do was exchange gifts with Monty, Quinn, and Lorraine. Other than that, Tate had been curled up on their couch clutching on to the bottle of vodka for dear life.
After a few days, Tate figured it was about time to emerge from their self induced isolation. They found their self sitting at the bar, sipping a vodka soda, and nibbling on a basket of french fries. As footsteps approached, a grumble fell through their lips. “If you wish me a belated Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or whatever else… I might throw this drink in your face.”
Alcohol was a remedy he turned to during his detoxing period. It was virtually the reason why he got through it. It had a special place in his heart because of that. And because he loved alcohol, especially beer. He hated all the boujee liquor that everyone had around here. He wanted the hard stuff and before he knew it, he was inside of a bar.
As soon as he spotted Tate, he lifted himself out of the bar stool and over towards where they were. It was better to mope together, he thought. “I’m not going to do any of that,” He revealed to them, “Although if the drink’s good, I’m always up for a taste.” He loved to mooch off of others. “I’d offer to share my Heineken but I’m not sure that you’d enjoy it.”

“Well to start, I like to think that I make a lot less stupid decisions,” Monty chuckled before sighing a little, “but I actually got arrested around this time last year because I was drunk and high and a whole lot of other things that I really don’t want to talk about, but you’re free to read on Gossip Girl if you want because she posted all about it. But this at least keeps it from happening again,” he explained, figuring that talking about that party once was enough per day and Bishop had already claimed that topic. “Yeah, I’m glad that she did it. She’s a really good person, and she moved here pretty recently so I think she’s still trying to find her place around here.”
He couldn’t relate at all. All he did was make stupid decisions. “Shit,” He wanted to say he knew how Monty felt but he didn’t. Ben was able to have Quinn take the fall for him. “That sucks. I believe you, I won’t read up on it. Gossip Girl isn’t on my radar unless she’s talking about me.” It was true, he only was interested if he saw himself on the blog. He would’ve warned this woman to stay away from here if he saw her first. The Upper East Side eats people up and spits them out. “I’m glad to hear that. It’s nice to see someone who wants to help out around here.”

“Dude, seriously? ‘Probably hard for Americans to grasp?’ Don’t be so fucking pretentious,” Finn rolled his eyes. “And you are American if you forgot that fact,” he said and took a sip of his own drink. “I’m not surprised you brought beer by the way. Not after your rant at O’s Christmas party.”
Of course, Finn had to something to say about this. The Golden Boy that Ben’s mother wishes she biologically had rather than a runaway fuck up. However, he bit his tongue. “It’s been about two years since I’ve celebrated New Year’s here. It’s a bit different in other places.” He wasn’t even buzzed enough to be completely honest towards the other man. “Why didn’t you bring beer too?” He asked, “We could’ve had a competition,” Ben offered, remembering their conversation at O’s, “How’s that drink of yours treating you?”
arlovasquez:
“I mean I’m sure someone could smell it on me, but because it’s Europe, no one really cared,” he said with a smirk. “I think he did have a beard later on in life. Well, there’s a self portrait oh him with a long white beard and I assume that’s what he actually looked like at the time? But yeah, there’s a theory that the Mona Lisa is actually just da Vinci in a dress. Maybe that’s why it’s so famous? Cause I honestly don’t know either.”
“Yeah, they also smoke like chimneys over there. No one can probably smell anything.” Being European was its own culture for sure, especially being French. “I always think of that movie with the Looney Tunes because of that painting. At least I think that was a movie, I’m pretty sure I was a little out of it the first time I watched it.” He figured Arlo would know what he was insinuating. “Did they even have mirrors back then? How was he able to know what he looked like?”

“How the fuck is my sister with someone as tedious as you?” The words came out before Bishop could stop them. Drugs had a habit of making him much more unfiltered than he really liked, but at least he was calling a spade a spade. Might as well go all in, “Like, I can understand not wanting to be a part of all,” Bishop gestured with his hand to the pretentious party that was unfolding before them, “this fuckery. Status symbols, the microscope. But, you’re like this hipster construct that has consumed too much kool-aid of what you think is supposed to be ‘relaxed’ and ‘cool’. It literally blows my mind that my sister married such a jerkoff.” Ben wanted to be friends, but Bishop didn’t. He figured if he just kept being his normal asshole self, it would play out like he wanted.
He watched Bishop go on a rant about him. And just like that, he felt his hand squeezing his bottle as his nostrils flared. Fuck Bishop. He knew King was out of his league, which is why he never even tried to pursue her back in the day. But running into her in Italy was no coincidence. “You know what?” He said before he paused as he moved closer towards Bishop, “You don’t have to get it but you need to accept it. I love King. It doesn’t matter what you think, or what your parents think. You can say what you want about me, but don’t say shit when you don’t even know what our relationship is like.” He didn’t care about being friends with Bishop, but he did care about King. He didn’t like anyone bashing their relationship. And if he wasn’t King’s brother, Ben would’ve thrown at least one fist towards his face already. “If I were you, I’d be there for King,” He lectured, “That’s what siblings are supposed to do.” Ben didn’t care if he was overstepping his boundaries, Bishop fucked up calling him a hipster construct.

It wasn’t fun living with two people who seemed pretty mad at him. He knew why King was mad at him. But O too? He wasn’t used to living with two pissed off women. If she was here, Chessie would’ve spoken to him. Or at least he assumed she would. He was tired of all of the awkwardness. He just wanted to break the silence with O. There was only so much quietness that he could take before he felt like he was going to explode. He was desperate for interaction. “You know, one of these days, I could make gyros for all of us. Have you ever had one?” It was a Greek dish that had made it’s way to the states, but he didn’t know her eating habits. “As a thank you for letting me stay here.” He added. He was staying here on free room and board. Who knew how long that was going to last?
taterodriguez:
Tate sipped at their vodka soda, crossing their legs as they allowed their self to get comfortable in their current location, knowing full well it would take a lot to pry Tate from the kitchen. It was quiet, it was away from the typical crowd that swarmed Upper East Side parties, and there was free alcohol. As Ben Vanderbilt came into their view, it had been like seeing a ghost. It took a lot out of Tate to offer pleasantries but they had been unsure if Ben had been fully aware of Tate’s knowledge on his situation with Quinn.
“Honestly, never thought I’d see your face again after you left.” Tate tried to remain civil, because it was clear he didn’t have bad intentions. “You’re staying here with O? Why? I didn’t know you guys were that close,” Tate gave a raise of their brow. O hadn’t mentioned that Ben Vanderbilt had been staying in their home. “Honestly,” Tate chuckled before admitting. “Hiding. I came for the free booze and to see O because I feel like I haven’t seen her in ages.” Tate sipped their vodka soda again. “I mean, it’s a free world. I’m not one to stop you.”
He was a runner. If something wasn’t going his way, he’d leave. If he was on the verge of getting in major trouble, he’d board the next flight to Europe. It just who he was. “Yeah, well, I had to come. Not because I wanted to,” He wanted to make sure that was clear, “But because I had to. I guess I just have some unfinished business. How about you? What have you been up to?” He asked in an effort to make small talk.
Ben then nodded at them, “You’re not wrong, we really aren’t close. My wife’s pretty close to her so she’s letting us stay here for a bit. This place is pretty nice compared to where I’ve been living these past few years,” He admitted. “O’s not in here if that narrows down your rooms to find her in,” There was a bit of joking in his voice. “This is the part where you’re supposed to tell me, of course, you wouldn’t mind. But, uh, I get it.”

Ben: what the hell is this??
finnsmythe:
“Rum gives me a headache,” he explained. “Though it is a classic combination. Oh… that was you fighting? I heard the commotion and decided to stay out of it. God knows I don’t need to get into any more fights,” he shrugged. “No beer? That’s kind of bullshit. But maybe I just think so because I’m used to being around guys who could down pitchers by themselves. We should Postmates beer or something,” he laughed. “It’s good, yeah. I’m glad I can be here for O.”
“I would’ve gotten a lot more punches in if Monty didn’t break it up. I normally do more damage,” Ben had his fair share of fights in bars, while he was high, basically anywhere and everywhere. Nowadays he was a bit calmer and looked towards his wife to keep his impulse control in check. “Fuck yeah. I’d like to see you try to beat me in a shotgun competition,” Ben challenged, the competitive side taking over a bit. “Oh yeah, you guys are a thing or something,” He remembered hearing about that, “We should do a double date. It’s not really my thing but maybe O will enjoy it.”
