There’s a phrase that’s often used in upper management: “Don’t talk about it, be about it.” Good ideas are worthless. Your ability to execute them will bring value. This is true no matter how much capital you have to invest into your business.

the thing that bothers me about the McDonald’s sauce business, as someone who’s worked fast food before, is that corporate completely shat the bed and put the health and safety of their minimum wage workers on the line for the sake of some publicity for their company that is already a household name
let’s be real here, while the behavior of the fans of Rick and Morty is disgusting, the idea that these restaurant chains knew that the supply wouldn’t meet the demand that over a year of hype had caused and then made their employees, who typically aren’t making enough to live day to day, deal with it, without telling anyone, “hey, there’s only about twenty promotional sauces here, you’re going to deal with having to turn a lot of people away”
that wasn’t the advertising campaign, that wasn’t “hey we’re only going to have a very, very, very small limited amount of sauce available,” it wasn’t “hey, you have a chance of winning this sauce by purchasing our product and we’ll fucking mail it to you or something,” it was “hey, fuck it, we’ll make them give it away to about twenty people and then deal with thousands more”
how is that a good business practice? how is that nothing but cruel for your employees? how is that good pr, even?

Okay I understand artists charging more than mass producers for items. But your prices are a little high. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I’ve said this a hundred times. Other artists have said this. People who aren’t even artists but care about others being able to support themselves from their work have said this. This is my job where I make my full time living. My prices are the way they are for a reason. And even if it weren’t my full time job I am performing a specialized skill producing luxury goods that takes time, money, and years to perfect. I deserve to be compensated for that work even if the money doesn’t go to basic survival necessities.
My products may be out of your price range, which is okay. That just means you aren’t my target market. But that doesn’t mean they are overpriced. And that doesn’t make it okay to walk around telling others what they should charge. There are a hundred resources on why artists price the way they do out there, please read the following and take some time to educate yourself:
- This is a “simple” forumla for pricing. It does not include any specifics and simply includes “expenses” as a lump category.
- A more in depth guide to pricing.
- Here is a post from Magweno which does a good job of summing up all the “hidden” costs in crafting. It also includes a discussion on whether the perceived value of art should be taken into consideration. It doesn’t even take into account sales, self employment, or income taxes. 15% of my income alone goes to self employment tax. 15-30% (depending on how much I made that year) will go to income tax.
- If you want to spend some money to learn, there is an entire book on ethical pricing.
- Another blog post from Mill Girl who writes further on what goes into pricing, arts and crafts as a luxury item, what you support when you purchase handmade, and who/what you harm when you devalue handmade.
- A tumblr post which highlights the pitfalls of people who undervalue art and their negative impact on the entire art community. This includes both artists undervaluing themselves and clients undervaluing artists.
- Here’s an article on pricing as a freelancer and industry standards. For the record I consider myself under the category “Someone with a few years of experience and a good portfolio: $50 - $85+/hr.” I can promise I am charging nowhere near $50 an hour, and close to $25 since I supplement my income with “passive income” from pattern sales.
And that is just a few of the resources out there available. I sincerely hope you will read them and stop spreading negative attitudes on pricing.

Money Miracles will occur once you demonstrate to the Universe that you can handle your finances properly.
A couple of the basics:
Open a seperate account and designate it as your Financial Freedom Account. Put 10% of every dollar you receive (after taxes) into this fund.
This money is only to be used for investments and buying creative passive-income streams.
In addition to opening a Financial Freedom bank account, Create a Financial Freedom jar in your home and deposit money into it every day. It could be $10, $5, $1, a single penny, or all your loose change. The amount doesn’t matter, the habit does. The secret again is to place daily “attention” on your objective of becoming financially free. Like attracts like, money attracts more money.
One of the biggest secrets to managing money is balance. On one side, you want to save as much money as possible so you can invest it and make more money. On the other side, you need to put another 10 percent of your income into a “play” account.
Your play account is primarily used to nurture yourself - to do the things you wouldn’t normally do.
The play account rule is that it must be spent every month. That’s right! Each month you have to blow all the money in that account in a way that makes you feel rich.
10 percent into Long-term Savings and Spending.
10 percent into your Education Account.
50 percent into your Neccessities Account.
10 percent into your Give Account.
Again, poor people think it’s all about income; they believe you have to earn a fortune to get rich. Again, that’s male-cow manure! The fact is that if you manage your money following this program, you can become financially free on a relatively small income. If you mismanage your money, you can’t become financially free, even on a huge income…because it’s not about what comes in, it’s about what you do with what comes in.

THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING AN AVAILABLE PRODUCT
Work Smart Show daily blog. What are the reasons people buy your product? Undoubtedly this question has many answers and I want to focus on the lesser known today, that of reciprocity. Of course many people buy a product because they need it, want it, have worked to be able to buy it or often times because they want to thank the vender.
I want to look at the case study of Patt Flynn, host of the Smart Passive Income and Ask Pat podcasts, who wrote his first book, Will it Fly, in late 2016. Now Pat is someone who provides immense amounts of value to his listeners through both of his podcasts and really builds into his listeners, taking an episode each to answer their questions even though they could be considered competition.
So it was that when he released his book and surveyed the reasons that people were prompted to buy it he found a strange trend. He found that many people were buying to support his work and his brand. He had provided so much free advice and material for them that they wanted to financially pay him back and so many bought the book even if it wasn’t relevant to them.
This idea fascinated me and I have seen it in several other situations recently such as my wife buying a products to support her favorite YouTuber simply because she wanted to financially support them. Now undoubtedly people buy your products because they need or want them, but are people also buying to support or thank you or your business.
This provides us with two very key takeaways to implement in our business. If you are in a business or entity that sells services or media maybe consider a physical product that people can buy to support you. Secondly if you have products available for sale are you providing enough valuable content that makes followers or customers feel they want to support you with their purchasing power?

(via SenaTechno: Affiliate Marketing Tips)
Among many different ways to monetize your website or blog, affiliate marketing is one of the most popular one. What is affiliate marketing and how does it work? To put it simply, you will sell or recommend a product or service through your website or blog. You also put the link that will bring people directly to the place where the product or services were selling. When website visitors click on your affiliate links and then make purchase, you will receive commission. How much money or commission that you will receive ?How much money or commission that you will receive is highly depending on the seller. It range from 30% to 70% of the product price depend on the seller itself. This program is very popular because it offers people the chance to get more money by doing things they love (in this case writing something on their blog or website). Amazon is one of the most popular websites that offer affiliate program to everyone. People can join the program in Amazon for free and then promote the product that was on sale in Amazon in their website or blog. This day, many similar website such as Amazon also offer people the affiliate program that people can use for their own benefit. For those who want to join this program to get more money from their website should consider several things: 1. First of all, it will be better if they already have well established website or blog with lots of visitor. It means they only need to persuade the visitor of their website to make purchase on the product or service they promote. Getting lots of visitor takes time and effort, so it will be better for people to work on the number of visitor before they start to join any affiliate program. 2. Besides getting enough visitors to increase the chance of them to click on your affiliate links, another trouble that you have to deal with is setting up the account on each affiliate marketing program out there. It can be time consuming and if you sign up for too many programs, you could lose count and lose your chance. You can join a site that will help you to join different kind of affiliate program with just one account. Sites like Viglink and Skimlink will do well for this purpose although there are other similar sites that you can use. If you are really serious on getting some money from the internet, then you should consider joining affiliate program; if you’re not ready, you can use other alternative to get money from the internet.

Growing up in southwestern Minnesota, I was exposed early on to farmers’ co-ops, and I’m shocked – SHOCKED, I tell you! – that the Solarpunk movement hasn’t embraced this already.
Co-ops are awesome. Basically, everybody who has a hand in production also gets a share in the profit.
In farming communities, this means everyone gets money from the corn they grow, while the Coop sells that corn to the big businesses that need it.
In Duluth, we have this grocery store called the Whole Foods Co-op that is owned by people in the community who shop there, and they actively do business with regional farmers.
So how would this look in a Solarpunk setting? Imagine a bike shop owned by the very people you see at the shop who are making and repairing the bikes. Or a fashion boutique where people can become members by contributing something (food? fabric? currency?) and the designer heavily marks down the prices for them. Or a bar where the bartenders and the regulars each have a stake in the place doing well.
We need more co-ops in our Solarpunk, people.

The core of Elsevier’s operation is in scientific journals, the weekly or monthly publications in which scientists share their results. Despite the narrow audience, scientific publishing is a remarkably big business. With total global revenues of more than £19bn, it weighs in somewhere between the recording and the film industries in size, but it is far more profitable. In 2010, Elsevier’s scientific publishing arm reported profits of £724m on just over £2bn in revenue. It was a 36% margin – higher than Apple, Google, or Amazon posted that year.
But Elsevier’s business model seemed a truly puzzling thing. In order to make money, a traditional publisher – say, a magazine – first has to cover a multitude of costs: it pays writers for the articles; it employs editors to commission, shape and check the articles; and it pays to distribute the finished product to subscribers and retailers. All of this is expensive, and successful magazines typically make profits of around 12-15%.

Here are 5 productivity-boosting behaviours I’ve picked up over the last 2 years from some of the most successful people in the world. Since implementing these behaviours into my life I’ve seen progress beyond belief and I wish the same for you too.
1. Wake up early. This used to be the hardest thing for me to do, but I’ve found one enormous hack - sleep with the curtains open. Waking up early gives you more hours in the day to spend working on your craft and get more done. When I wake up at 5am I feel like I’ve gained an extra day and this is why it’s first on the list.
2. One thing at a time. Don’t spread your focus across 6 things at the same time - do one thing well and then move onto the next. When you try to get multiple tasks done at the same time they are done with a fraction of your attention and this leads to mistakes. It’s better to do it right the first time around than to have to come back and start again later on.
3. Take breaks. Working yourself too hard for too long will result in you having to take a long break later down the road. It’s better for your productivity to take short, regular breaks throughout the day to remain energised mentally and physically. The best breaks are ones you take for exercise and relaxing in nature as they will rejuvenate your mind and body so you can come back fresh.
4. Don’t waste time on your “competition”. My role model in business is Gary Vee - he says he wants to build the biggest building (business) in town by actually building it rather than tearing down everyone else’s buildings. He knows that the time he spends trying to bad mouth others is time he could be investing into building his own business.
5. Be grateful. There are going to be challenges along the way, but staying grateful for what you have and for the problems you don’t have is a great way to push past the difficult times. When you value the health and wellbeing of yourself and those around you - every other problem becomes minor in comparison. Having perspective on challenges and problems is key to not getting overwhelmed in these situations.
Peace & positive vibes.

There is no Minor League in business.
A cruel truth about business: different to the world of sports there is no fairness.
If you start a company in your garage - you don’t compete with all the garage companies in the town or the country…
From the first day on you swim with the sharks.
All unicorns, Fortune500 enterprises, old money, the syndicates and undercover organizations, … - they all operate right next to you.
Most of the times you might get away by being overlooked. But once in while you might find yourself eye to eye…
How to still have a chance:
don’t panic.
find your niche and exploit it.
understand your customer better than anyone else.
be fast and really good.
build a love band.
Understand staying in business as a form of success.

School’s out and suddenly your days are free! You now have time to start your own website, but where will you begin?
Decide what will be on your website: Is it a blog? A business? Why will people come to look at your website? Then you can create your own logo, and decide what it’s going to look like.
Coding: After you’ve decided what you want it to look like, you can start coding. JSFiddle is a great website where you can save and test your code for free, and collaborate with others. Use HTML first to create a basic site then style and animate with CSS.
Host your website: Once you’ve tested your code, and you can’t find any bugs, use GitHub, or another service, to host your website. When you’ve hosted your website anyone in the world can find it on the internet using your web address.
Congratulations, on your first website!

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF SOCIAL MEDIA AUTOMATION
Work Smart Show daily blog.
Now please don’t think I am scared of or anti-technology, in fact it both amazes and frustrates me. I am far from a Luddite taking to a computer with a hammer, well sometimes, but there are some parts of technology that I could do without. I am talking specifically about the auto likes, auto followers and auto DM’s on Twitter.
Almost every time I post an article or daily blog I will receive a notification a second later telling me that someone has liked, retweeted or commented on this. Now please don’t think I am bragging in fact it is quite the opposite; this will be a company targeting a keyword that I have used such as ‘entrepreneur’ or ‘business’. At first I would follow the account because of their like but very quickly stopped when I understood their tactic. They are trying to illicit a human response, a like or follow, with a system set to auto-pilot.
The other example of is auto DM’s when you follow someone. I have read the auto DM’s of three people. Only three of the 1,810 people that I currently follow. When I receive a DM stating “XX person sent you a link” I don’t even open the message. To have people open and respond to your DM’s you need to respect them, their time, needs and wants. Almost no one on twitter wants a link to your site, training course or sure fire way of earning an income at home. Also if you have set up your profile correctly the follower would have already seen this information and links in your bio.
Now let me tell you about the three that I did open and respond to even though I knew they were auto DM’s. The first was when I followed @begosite and received the message “Are you the DIY type of person, or would you rather someone else do things for you?” There was no link, no promotional material even though this is an account for a DIY website builder. This lead to a very interesting DM conversation about outsourcing and what work as an entrepreneur or business you could or would outsource. It also lead me to follow all of the accounts linked to this; @bruceandeddy and @butchewing and receive a similar auto DM; “Would you rather see us as giant corporation or small business?”
Now aside from being another interesting topic for a blog post some other day these accounts went to the time of posing an interesting auto DM question, then taking time to converse in depth once I answered instead of spamming me with promotional material that I would resent.
I have said on the Work Smart Show podcast that I don’t mind advertising if it is interesting and relevant to me and in the same way I don’t mind auto DM’s as long as they are engaging and not self-promoting.
So I give you this challenge; do you have a auto DM? Is it engaging or simply more of your site and contact details? Take time today to work this into an engaging question and then answer the responses. What have you got to lose? After all have you honestly ever made a sale, gained a listener or fan through an auto DM?
