'I don't need a physiological help,' his father tells him the minute he picks up the phone.

'Of course,' he nods, making his voice nicer. 'How can I help you?'

Bruce pauses, his breath hitching for a second; almost as if he recognized Jason's voice.

'My... my son thinks I need it, but I am fine,' Bruce insists. 'Still... I want to, well, fulfil a promise I gave... for once.'

Jason rolls his eyes, a familiar irritation flaring up in green flames before his eyes. He wonders who is this lucky son that gets to have such a diligent, responsible father - Dickhead? Tim? Damian?

'I see,' he breathes out, trying to follow a protocol of the calls. 'I am sure he will appreciate your loyalty. Will you tell him about it?'

'If he appears,' something screeches in the background, and if Jason closes his eyes, he can easily imagine Bruce leaning back on the armchair, in the Batcave. 'I... He only ever appears in my dreams, my boy.'

Jason freezes.

'Excuse me?'

'I... He is dead, my son.'

Had someone else died? Jason frowns, reaching for his phone, typing anxiously Nightwing and Robin in the search bar, trying to see if there is something serious happened; because he can't be talking about the second Robin, can he-

'I am sorry,' he blurts out, eyes drifting back to notes on the table, with some common phrases that can be used in this situation. 'I... Do you want to talk about, sir?'

Bruce is silent for a while. Jason thinks he is about to drop the call, but then, he sighs heavily on the line:

'His name was Jason. And he was the brightest boy.'

Jason mutes the microphone. He thinks he is going to vomit.

urinetown beach day headcanons!

okay so i think the concept of the beach in urinetown is really interesting because there's a drought.

but the beach would still like...have to be a thing because oceans dont just dry up

so i think it would be really interesting to observe the change in who attends the beach. because you'd need a car to get there- accessible beaches are probably much further away than normal

the beach becomes an elitist thing. only rich people go to the beach. it's a luxury

so when cladwell is like, "hey, i'm going to the beach", hope is like "say more right now."

she refuses to go unless bobby can go with her, "it's my road or the high road daddy"

which then leads to mrs. pennywise getting in on the beach trip, which then leads to the poor tagging along

lockstock sees this and goes "poor people going to the beach? it has to be a coup. i'm going to follow behind them to make sure nothing bad happens."

cut to barrel squeezed into the passenger seat already in his beach clothes and a flamingo pool floaty around his waist

little sally somehow ends up in the backseat and no one notices she's there until she wakes up from her nap halfway there and almost jumpscares lockstock to driving off the road.

and that's how caldwell b. cladwell ends up taking an entire gang of strange, ragamuffin-like bumbling idiots to the beach with him (and his entourage ofc ofc, i just KNOW ms. millenium serves cunt at the beach)

mr. mcqueen is afraid of the water, and the sand, and anything beachy, he hates it. he does paperwork at the beach, and then starts crying when sand gets on it

bobby makes sure hope reapplies her sunscreen like the world will end if she doesn't

meanwhile, he forgets his own and burns like a fucking piece of dry grass

they're not there for twenty minutes and the poor have already buried tiny tom up to his neck in the sand

little sally scares them all by floating in the water and pretending she's dead multiple times

barrel looks like he's ready to go swimming for the entire day, but then a single piece of algae touches his foot within the first hour and he immediately taps out

lockstock's like "ooo i'm gonna do my cop job at the beach, i'm gonna guard the rich people" and then immediately conks out on a towel

fipp is surprisingly good at skipping rocks

hope brought all the snacks, and she shares, serves, and slays.

hot blades "i know how to swim (and then almost drowns)" harry

little sally builds a really good sandcastle and then barrel kicks it and she throws sand in his eyes

the poor bury lockstock in sand while he's sleeping like they did with tiny tom

hot blades "you mean there's been water this whole time!? (tries to drink it and throws up because he didn't know it was salty)" harry

little becky spends a lot of time looking for sea shells because she think they'll make nice room decor for when her baby arrives

cladwell reads his book the entire time and pretends his day isn't being ruined by the chaos of what he tried so hard to forget about

bobby strong thinks that he's going to be eaten by a shark and it takes him an hour to coax him into the water

the only swimming concept that poor man can grasp is a pitiful doggy paddle

everyone is fast asleep on the drive home and it's the most peaceful quiet thing you could possibly imagine.

IM GOING TO BE THINKING ABOUT THIS FOREVER OH MY GOD

But on a similar note, I’ve always felt like tell her I love her is just such a beautifully poetic song, like sure, there’s the funny moments in it too, but at its core it’s what stirs Hope and the rebels into a full revolution. It’s Bobby’s last dying words to the people he tried so desperately to lead, to SAVE. One line that has always stood out to me specifically was “I’ve lost my sense of sight/and yet I see them” because AUGH isn’t that just so beautiful???? He’s ACTIVELY dying, his senses are failing him one by one but the people he cares so much about are the last thing he sees, and he still has so much hope for these people he JUST had to convince out of killing his girlfriend but he truly believes they can still do it and it just KILLS ME EVERY TIME.

That song has SO MUCH to it, and so do SO MANY OF THE OTHERS, and I just feel like they get looked over so often as “oh funny haha” which yea, but also!!! You can tell there was just so much thought put into this show when you get into it and istg at some point I wanna do a deep dive into the whole script because I feel like there’s a lot that gets missed

i don’t know of a urinetown community on tumblr, but there’s something i noticed on first listen that i can only pray reaches its target audience.

in act one, you get “follow your heart,” (the most gorgeous song in that show, but that’s another post) and every chorus in it ends with “if only you follow your heart.” in act two, during “tell her i love her,” little sally relays bobby’s last words as “if only…”, saying he expired before he could finish his sentence.

you follow your heart. bobby strong was trying to say “there still is hope, i see it in this land / if only you follow your heart.” ouch. i never saw the point in spending too much time on this detail until i was in the show, and i realized nobody else had noticed it.

urinetown is… dumb. yeah, it makes an enormous point about corporate greed and climate change, but it’s a music about peepee. there’s a REASON nobody reads into this nonsense— it isn’t super necessary to putting on a good production. there’s also the fact that so many urinetown lyrics (probably intentionally) are just there to make performers and consumers alike hear them and make a face. i’m completely here for it, don’t get me wrong, but is this one of those hidden nuggets of meaning?

i had never once mentioned it and honestly i don’t know why but my production of urinetown had puppets. we learned how to use puppets for a show about piss. my off night puppet was the best looking one cause i got my connections (me and the techie making the puppets are friends)

okay but actually more about the puppets because they were so cool

-the character who used the puppets the most were the poor character and poor ensemble

-the whole thing with the puppets was that it was like physically showing how the poor were like puppets following orders from the rich

-bobby had this really big puppet where u could control the hands

-at the end of follow your heart hope KISSED the PUPPET and then bobby like became free from his puppet

-it’s showing how he became his own person cause this is when he gets the idea for the revolution yknow

-and then at the end of look of the sky is when all the poor ensemble (minus little sally) shed off their puppets

-because!!! bobby convinced the poor the join the revolution!!!! its showing the rich losing their power!!!!!! its cool trust me

-also don’t be the bunny had puppet choreo which is was the coolest

-also side note while the rich and cop ensemble didn’t have puppets they were like their own thing

-rich people were real life marionette dolls who all dressed the same

-cops were robots

-yes barrel was also a robot

-this does technically mean that lockstocks only friends were a robot and a child

-anyway back on the puppets

-so about little sally!! her thing with the puppets was so cool

-so!!!!! with the puppets basically all poor characters would talk through their puppets. like when they speak the puppet also speaks. opening their mouth and everything

-but!!!! little sally doesn’t control her puppet

-lockstock does

-HEAR ME OUT so basically every single time little sally says a line lockstock is somewhere with the little sally puppet controlling it

-but little sally would give him the puppet!!! like willingly

-it shows how lockstock was like manipulating sally but she was letting him yada yada

-so like whenever lockstock wasn’t on stage and little sally wasn’t yapping she held onto her puppet like a teddy bear

-yes a puppet of herself was her teddy bear dont think too hard on it

-anyway so little sally was the last person to become free from her puppet

-basically during act one finale when she says to lockstock “this may not be a happy musical but its still a musical! and when a little girl like me has been given as many lines as i hav theres still hope for dreams!” is when she SNATCHES her puppet out of lockstock hands

-she SNATCHES her own free will guys!!!

-yeah so the puppets weren’t used to much for act 2

-but!!! during the end of i see a river is when everyone (even rich and cop people) pull out a puppet

-we had this whole ending scene with all the puppets in the sky

-AND MALTHUS OR WHATEVER HIS NAME WAS

-HE WAS THE TRUE PUPPET MASTER

-we have like this balcony thing on the top of our stage and one of the techies went up there to be malthus

-also!!!!!!!! at the end of the musical when everyone gets their puppet back lockstock gets sally and sally gets lockstock!!!

-they’re both manipulating each other!!!
