What are your headcanons for the Millhaven Mapleshade :D
Okay okay okay okay SO. I have been hyperfixating on Mapleshade SO HARD for a little while and chchhdhdjcjcjf she's just. She!!! Millhaven is on of my favorite MAPs and I highly recommend watching it, if only for the song and the visuals because the animation is so smooth and it's fucking stunning djdhhsjdhdjcjdjdj
Brief rundown of her story if you're unfamiliar but curious: Mapleshade was a ThunderClan cat who fell in love with a RiverClan cat (Appledusk) and had his kits, which is a violation of their law. She was kicked out of ThunderClan and tried to go to RiverClan, resulting in her kits drowning in a flood. Her mate turned her away (and had an affair with a RiverClan cat WHILE MAPLE WAS PREGNANT) and she became a rogue. She blamed three cats for her kits' death and killed them in revenge, including her former mate, and was sent to the Dark Forest. There, she manipulated one of Appledusk's descendants (Crookedstar) and led to the death of all his loved ones. This excludes a lot of details but it's enough to understand this post :D
This scene where Maple's in the Dark Forest (cat hell) and addressing the other cats there is where most of my inspiration was taken from. The lyric translated into English (the song is Polish) is "the press called me a vampire" or something along those lines. I am absolutely obsessed with Mapleshade and witch/vampire imagery it just fits so well!! Now I personally headcanon that she would have been very protective of kits in general after what happened to hers, sans Appledusk's descendants to an extent.
I also headcanon that queens tell their kits stories of Dark Forest cats as like moral lessons and to scare them and stuff. Maple's story boils down to, don't mate outside the clan. As she was responsible for her kits' deaths, I like to think there might also be an element of Mapleshade will come for you if you misbehave, but that's more kits scaring each other. The second is in direct contrast to what she actually does, which is punish parents who abuse or neglect their kits. Cats like Rainflower had their lives constantly manipulated to punish them for their actions, but cats like Palebird are left alone because she wasn't neglecting Tallkit intentionally (she suffered massive depression as her daughter died soon after birth)
This headcanon also helps flesh out the world more, because the Dark Forest cats are really underutilized ngl. They're in hell!! They should be more relevant in the stories mothers tell their kits, and stories kits tell each other!! StarClan (cat heaven) has WAY more overall significance throughout the series, where the Dark Forest is mostly ignored except in Power of Three.
Just wanted to post this for archival purposes.

this is probably my favorite segment from all of Get Back. George sounds even lovelier on this song here than he does on his official demo of it, I wish the full audio of it from this performance would be released. the way that John looks at him as he watches him moves me so much
It’s just about a gang of weirdos who love each other singing from the literal rooftops and, for a few minutes, bringing colour to a grey city. It’s about how all good things must come to an end but by simply happening they’re still significant. It’s about the constant battle between art/people/LOVE against forces that want them to conform. It’s about how friendship can literally change the world. It’s about hope. It’s about the power of dreaming. It’s cold and their fingers are going numb and the uniformed police officers, ever-present in the background, are making them unplug their instruments. But they just plug them back in!!! Maybe they can’t finish the concert but they’re finishing the song if it’s the last thing they do and they’ll even crack some jokes while they’re at it. Poetic cinema…
