Sometimes I like to imagine Izutsumi sounds like me-mow from adventure time
deranged ramble incoming abt the succubus arc but like. god it fucks me up bc up until this point izutsumi has been a bit estranged from the rest of the group and rightly so, because she joined late, because the others knew each other better, because she has spent her whole life relying on herself. yes, her saying she could beat the succubus cuz she doesn't have anything she's attracted to is a Big Aroace Moment but ALSO in the official translation i read they translated that line as "i don't want anybody" ie. it's not just that she's aroace she also has no one else! and when she sees the succubus in the form of her mom and it doesn't have as huge an effect on her she thinks to herself "do i not have a heart?" and it's like!!! god!!! bc this arc isn't about how she needs to give up her self-reliance and learn to depend on others sometimes. it's about her capacity to care in the face of how up until now no one has cared for her. how her being a monster doesn't make her a monster, so to speak. at the end of the arc she still thinks she doesn't need the party to look after her but she wants to look after them and that's so important bc it's like. the part of her that cares about others hasn't been damaged forever. she hasn't lost her heart, she just has two of them. and like. idk. it's so good these chapters are so good izutsumi my little guy of all time ever. i think it's missing the point to go "um actually the succubi can still turn into family" or w/e bc THIS IS WHAT THE ARC IS ABOUT. whether or not izutsumi can have it in her to be a part of a family at all (she does) (she's just traumatized and aroace and doubts herself about it)
"I'd never use it/its for someone else even if they wanted me to, it sounds like I'm saying they're not Human"
average it/its pronoun user:
A very experimental art for me, i want to try out some new style. ihnmaims radio drama got me in a chokehold and possessed me to draw this.
Also I'm giving Ted zero gyatt cus that man did not deserve it.
Note :
- the binary translates as "HATEHATE" on repeat.
- the pair of punchcode tapes representing AM's talkfield, are from the original short story. The left one is "I THINK, THEREFORE I AM" and the right is "COGITO ERGO SUM".

what if we saw shapeshifter versions of izutsumi?
Explanations under the cut
#1 is Laios' Izutsumi:
extra detail on her cat parts
more monster-y traits present
outfit mistake
#2 is Marcille's Izutsumi:
influenced by their time in the Golden Country
a little more chill than the others
softer hair
#3 is Senshi's Izutsumi:
details of puffed up fur
this izutsumi is skinnier than the others (ribs showing)
^^ senshi must take care of the child
#4 is Chilchuck's Izutsumi:
rounded ears like marcille's
eyes kinda look like his kids puckpatti and flertom
stanced
There’s just something extremely touching about watching Izutsumi work through a wide range of emotions when she sees Marcille cry for the first time.
She’s sleeping on Marcille’s lap when it happens—something she hadn’t willingly done since her human consciousness was subdued in the Golden Country.
Izutsumi was initially very embarrassed when she remembered showing Marcille such unbridled affection when her monster (cat) side had full control in Melini. But now, shortly after, she did it again without any fuss, seemingly over this embarrassment.
But when she notices Marcille crying—not crying expressive tears over a situation with low stakes, but tears of real sorrow and loss—Izutsumi physically recoils.
She reacts with the childlike fear and panic that one feels when someone they heavily rely on and trust (like a parent or teacher) shows vulnerability, doubt, or weakness. She lashes out, trying to use words of reproach to get Marcille to stop crying. Or, in childlike terms, to try to force Marcille’s pain go away.
When that doesn’t work, we see her physically struggle as she tries to sit by and wait it out. But Izutsumi can’t do it.
Marcille’s pain causes her so much intense distress that Izutsumi immediately offers physical affection as a response—something she has not done for anyone up to this point.
When Senshi told the party about his traumatic backstory, Izutsumi did not touch him. She did support him, tried to offer words of comfort, but she did not embrace him like the others did. Maybe she didn’t know how; maybe she didn’t have a proper example on what comforting someone looked like. But she saw all three of them reach for Senshi, she saw them hold him in their arms, and anchor him as he cried.
This is the first time another party member has cried out of sadness since that moment. It’s possible that she saw how the others helped Senshi, and maybe, subconsciously, she saw that it worked. That it made him feel better.
She is clearly unused to it, and has her own rollercoaster of emotions as Marcille gratefully accepts the comfort Izutsumi is offering her. But it helps. It helps Marcille immediately, and Izutsumi knows this.
These acts of vulnerability are foreign to her, and thus make her feel uncomfortable, but she lets Marcille lean on her afterwards anyway. She wanted Marcille to be okay, wanted it so badly, that she accidentally overcame an emotional obstacle she never even knew she had.
i love that she plays with walking mushrooms like she does with birds. you know she plucks their feet off for fun
Do you guys think Izutsumi does teenager talk and chilchuck is the only one who can understand her? No? Aw man ☹️
Idk how to draw senshi if you can’t tell
I gotta say I’m impressed with what they done with Falin as a character.
She was set up as a plot device character, a sort of fridged character for her male relative’s main drive for the series and a sort of manic pixie dream girl for the other male character but she’s more than that.
She’s the autistic coded human mage who was set up as the weird girl who couldn’t make friends besides Marcille at the magic school she was attending. She followed her brother because she wanted to not just because she was asked. Falin chose to save everyone else at her own expense but she got to be revived thanks to the dungeon’s magic that keeps them alive. She was willing to eat the dragon that ate her. Even when she became the “damsel-in-distress” again she was also the fierce dragon for the mad mage.
She’s not motivated by romance. At least not initially. Especially with guys. At the end of the manga (spoiler alert), she turns down Shuro’s proposal and opted to follow her own desires rather than follow others like she has done her whole life. Falin doesn’t let the permanent feathers on her body phase her and she still wanted to partake in exotic monster cuisine like her brother and his party had been doing.
She got to be weird, flawed, and not limited by the relationships to the other male characters in the story.

what if vampires are like mosquitoes and only the ladies drink blood
Man, thinking of Izutsumi is making me cry. Like, the succubus chapter and the monsters taking on the form of her mom (that she thinks what her mom looks like but she doesnt remember, she was taken/implied kidnapped when she was very very young).
How at first she was frozen and her small, cracked voice, calling her, "Mom?".
Then, the next without effort kills her 'mom' and the agony that she thinks that she doesnt have a human heart, that she's a heartless monster. Thinking how easy it is to kill her. Until, a big cat monster appears. As the fight stops, she looks at the cat monster and questions why it doesnt affect her. The realization that she does have a human heart, it just beats alongside the monster heart. That she's slowly starts to accept who she is, I mean she still has the desire to go back to being human, but she does start to not hate herself. And the fact that nearly her whole life being carted around, she was never alone. Her monster part protected the little girl, gave her its strength and agility.
I'd like to believe that's where the part where this snip of her thinking of herself, comes to fruition
Here are my Dungeon meshi stickers! I basically thought "hey. lots of people will have cute food themed stickers. And that good and well, but I want that serious stuff too!" So I decided to make a series for the main gang based on sense of self instead!
I love Izutsumi.
I know people who are like her, on a surface seem like they completely lack empathy and are selfish assholes, but it's so much more complicated than that. In the snow golem episode everything Marcille said to her hopefully will help me get through to my own friends who are also like that
this show is just so awesome, it seriously has representation on every flavour of autism and treats it so kindly, i'm so glad it exists
Thinking about the way dungeon meshi does queer horror. Using horror to tell queer stories is already subversive, but dungeon meshi subverts it even more
Normal queer horror is like. A monsterous desire and immortal love of something isolated/hated and the uncontrollable but suppressed need to consume someone to live and they only die if you break/pierce their heart. its great.
In dungeon meshi, the group is STARVING. they do things the way they're expected to and they're so deprived that eventually, one of them is consumed by that monsterous desire.
Then when Falin becomes a monster, she doesn't eat Marcille because she doesn't NEED to, Marcille already offered herself up as part of Falin by mixing her own blood with the dragon's for the resurrection.
Also Marcille is a monster too!! She doesn't need to be turned by Falin. She's a 'witch' doing black magic for one but she's also very vampiric
Her name is super vampirey especially given one of the translation spellings was Marcilla, an annogram of Carmilla*. And Marcille is very similar to Marceline from Adventure Time so it's a name with heavy connotations to me. Also her staff is Ambrosia which means immortal.
*ps Carmilla is the original modern vampire that inspired Dracula and also a lesbian. she used annagrams of her name to disguise herself across hundreds of years.
Marcille is like. a vampire in that death is a big part of her theme. She can breathe that immortality into someone else using her resurrection black magic and death is a huge part of her character. She wants them to live as long as she does. To make them immortal. Like. Like a vampire.
But once again this is subverted!! she doesn't 'turn' Falin, she makes her undead by giving her own blood instead of taking Falin's. Falin becomes a monster not because she's attacked or turned, but because her DNA, something INHERENT about her is now intertwined with the monster. so a god-like figure merges them. Then the only way to free her from that frenzy and grant her autonomy again is to finally consume her. something inherently lesbian about all that i think idk about you
Made a script to generate half-foot style names for original characters, fic extras, or just for fun! Many thanks for the people who provided content and feedback on this generator! Please feel free to send any feedback to my ask box.
wanted a blank version of the adventurer's bible character profiles so i made one. then i made a few variations since i already had photoshop open. figured i'd share in case someone else wants to use them
and some seals for the ability check thing
thank you izutsumi for showing exactly how it feels to deal with someone audibly crying/very emotional people, as someone who doesnt get it
still trying to comfort of course, these feelings are not invalid
Maybe its because I'm bitter or because I just left a fandom that reduced one of the main characters to a one off joke when the POINT is that they're complex but I hate how this fandom treats Izutsumi.
I hate how some people who interacted with the fandom before watching the anime thought that she didn't even speak because EVERYONE just draws her as a cute stupid cat whose personality is just being a cat
Again, maybe I'm just bitter, but I hate how the most common joke is the "Izutsumi: izutsumi" cause apparently no one can be bothered to actually consider her thoughts and feelings and personality.
Like yeah I'm not saying it can't be funny but it quickly becomes tiring when she's reduced to just that
Especially when her entire arc is about finding her identity as a person and as part of a community, finding a balance between her human and cat souls because she's both but also neither. Especially when canonically she's ashamed of the one time she behaved like just a silly little cat (golden kingdom)
I simultaneously relate and don't relate to Izutsumi so viscerally. She wants to be human so badly in the exact way that I don't. It's the same feeling along an equal and opposite vector and it's incredibly jarring. We both desperately want what the other has and wants to get rid of.
yknow ive noticed nobody really talks abt the episodes in the castle town in regards to izutsumi beyond "haha shes embarrassed because she was being cuddly how cute". Has nobody else realized how that was just yet another instance of her having her agency stripped away from her. why is nobody talking about how fucked up that is

I know we all joke about Izutsumi (Izutsumi) but I do think she represents an important aspect just like the other members of the part and that’s Self Advocation.
She was kept from making her own choices for herself for a long ass time, most of her life if not all of it I’d wager. And now??? Even for survival she’s not going to do it if she wants. She wasn’t going to eat those dumplings just because she’d had them too much until Senshi took a chance with a changeling ring. And even after agreeing to help her and travelling in the dungeon a bit, Izutsumi just wandered off after the dire wolves showed up. Because she wanted to.
So if different characters can act as voices in your head for things, like Chilchuck with your rights as a worker, let Izutsumi give you permission to advocate for yourself.
If a doctor isn’t listening, be firmer and clearer. If you don’t want to be somewhere, find a way to leave. You want to learn a new skill but people have doubts, fuck them and try. People complain about you being a picky eater? Fuck em again, why shouldn’t you eat things you like?
Unless it’s something you kind of Have to do, make sure you’re putting yourself first. And if you have to do it but don’t want to, do it in a way that’s better for you.
Think of Izutsumi, would she put up with that bullshit??? Don’t put up with more than you’re willing to
i have not watched or read any dunmeshi and will not do so but i really really really really really love izutsumi. so shes minnesotan now sorry
