salem beamed as she strolled through the vineyard with solana. she couldn't contain her enthusiasm as the two picked grapes and placed them in the basket. "i'm super excited for this, can you believe i've never done a wine tasting before either?" she said to the other. grape picking and creating your own wine was completely different from salem's typical idea of fun but she was quickly starting to adapt to trying new things while living in valpo. "please don't roast me too hard on how little i know about it all." she said a bit embarrassed. "my parents are more of the whiskey in a dive bar types than wine sipping on a vineyard you know?"
it had been a full week since salem arrived into town. she'd been keeping busy exploring around the various shops and bars, the possibility of running into her ex leon looming over her head in the process. tonight she found herself at los fantasmas, a bar she'd become fond of in her short time here. after spending a good chunk of the night drinking with a few locals she finally mustered up the courage to see leon. she thought about calling him or texting him that she was in town but wasn't hopeful she'd get a response. in his defense though the breakup was pretty bad, she probably wouldn't wanna talk to herself either. in the cab ride over her nerves started to get the best of her and the possibility of leon rejecting her at the door crept into her mind. after stumbling out of the cab and arriving at his door she knocked twice and looked around while she waited for a response. what if he wasn't home? was this a mistake? she thought to herself and not a moment sooner she was surprised as leon opened the door. "um well..." she said stuttering a bit at his response. "i was just casually in the country and thought i'd pop by and say hey." slurring her words a bit as she nervously looked down at the ground.
ten pm. leon sits on the balcony of his godmother's apartment. he faces the ocean and looks at some notes he's written on his phone. mostly lyric ideas. he puts out a half-smoked cigarette when he hears the doorbell. who could it be? he's not expecting anyone. unless it's drew, he probably got accidentally too high again. when leon opens the door, he's surprised to see salem. the woman who broke his heart stands in front of him and it takes him a moment to react. "what are you doing here?" he finally asks.
@cybermuses
"okay, we can talk about it tomorrow." she said quietly while quickly wiping the tears from her eyes. salem watched leon as he walked out of the living room before shutting the light off. her mind was racing for what felt like hours. she couldn't sleep and for some weird reason, maybe out of habit, found herself knocking on the bedroom door. "can i come lay with you?" she asked after peaking her head in the door. leon was half asleep and told her to come in. salem crawled into bed with him and cuddled up against him. it was comforting to be this close to him again and all she wanted was for things to go back to normal. "im so sorry for how much i've hurt you." she wasn't sure if he was awake or not but she needed to get it off her chest. "i don't want things to end and how much i love you actually terrifies me. but i don't know how to be the person you deserve..." she turned to him and realized he was sound asleep. salem ran her fingers through his hair and kissed his forehead gently. she turned back around to cuddle against him before eventually falling asleep.
when morning rolled around salem was woken up by the sunlight peaking through the curtains. she looked around the room and then over to leon who was still sleeping. her hangover was raging and the thought of the inevitable talk they were supposed to have made her stomach turn. she got up out of bed and quietly tiptoed out of the bedroom slowly closing the door. leaving this way probably wasn't the best decision but she felt like there wasn't much left for her to say anyways and she truly was tired of hurting him and that's what the end result would be anyways. so she grabbed her shoes and her bag and left the apartment.
this is too much. he hates seeing her so heartbroken. absolutely destroys him. but at the end of the day, he really can't be just a punching bag. he has a lot to think about. "i can't do this right now," he looks down at her with tears bubbling in his eyes. the fact that she can't promise not to break his heart again, it kills him. and he wants to trust her. they both bring so much baggage into this relationship. but he sees himself in her, and it really feels like she's the only one who understands him. the only one for him. she's his soulmate. "i'm going to bed," the man says. he presses one hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort her in somehow. "the bathroom's that way and the kitchen's stocked. we'll continue this tomorrow, okay?" it fucking hurts to pull his hand away, and it hurts even more to leave her in the living room as he goes to the master bedroom. he just wants to hold her, fuck her, make her feel good and trust her to not fuck him up again. is that really possible? leon takes off his shirt and climbs into bed with just sweatpants. he scrolls through his phone for a few minutes, but he can't concentrate on anything. so, he switches off the light of the lamp on his nightstand and tries to sleep.
salem's instagram !! @valpoinspo
tbh salem has a weird relationship with social media. she's a little more private about what she posts and is very big on using the close friends feature (she's too lazy to keep up with a private account lmao) if she weren't a musician she probably wouldn't want such a big presence online. her typical posts are random things like stevie and her friends and plants.
she pouted briefly after realizing she'd have to wait a little longer to be reunited with her child but seeing boat cat was an added bonus. the orange creature had become like a second child to her. "luna was right with doing that you know. i mean the only reason why we're besties is because you're a negligent cat parent towards boat cat." salem knew referring to the two as besties would make rohan shudder and she couldn't help that she found amusement in getting on his nerves ( it was pretty simple after all ) and she had to admit she did enjoy their back and forth. as he toted the luggage into the car she rolled her eyes at his comment. "i don't need luggage that expensive no, but i can't help that i have nice things." climbing into the passenger seat in an attempt to get out of the cold she continued on. "i was just talking shit really, you know i'm not one to really flex my wealth but it obviously annoyed you and that's enough for me." a laugh falling from her lips. salem knew she should have probably thanked him first before getting on his nerves but it wasn't in her nature to be nice to rohan immediately. she looked over at him as he got into the drivers seat and gave him a small smile. "thanks by the way. i appreciate you offering to bring me home. i got you a really obnoxious gift for the boat also."

-ˋˏ ꒰ 🐚 ꒱ ── “ yeah exactly. you know. airports : those places people notoriously pick up women and hate reading. that’s what all the bookstores inside are for. “ rohan knows he can be a bit abrasive. he knows he’s hard to talk to. he can’t help it, especially when it comes to salem. she's so quick with her own quips that the back and forth comes naturally── and manages to avoid how itchy he gets every time he thinks he's starting to become friends with someone. his gaze follows her as she peers expectantly into the back of the cab, and rohan tosses the little paperback he was holding through the open window of the driver's side door. " sorry, i was talking about boat cat. luna wouldn't let me take stevie. " he did try to argue that it made sense to get both salem and stevie from valpo to viña del mar in one trip ; unfortunately, that did not sway their opinion. " apparently i can't be trusted. my track record is too poor with boat cat, whatever that means. " a beat passes as he looks between salem and her bags, an eyebrow raised, but he gives in easily, moving to pull open the back door of the cab so he could put them there── unfortunately for him, rohan tends to be more bark than bite. " do you really need luggage that expensive ? i spent like, half my life savings on that boat. unless that was your attempt at a subtle brag ? it doesn't impress me how much money you have, you know. "
a smile stretched across salems lips as luna sat down. it had seemed like forever since the two last saw one another. she quickly moved her coffee and journal aside to give the other space at the table. before even having a moment to respond luna was yanking their boots off and all salem could do was laugh and glance around the small cafe to see if anyone else had noticed. she loved that luna was random like that. "okay there's not way you haven't broken those boots in yet?" she said with a grin before closing the journal in front of her to give luna her undivided attention. "nope it's fine! plus even if you did i'd just dedicate the page to you and turn it into a happy little memory or something." she sipped on her coffee while leaning back in her chair. "i'm actually gald i ran into you, i think the universe knew that i needed to see someone that i loved. not to be dramatic but i just realized how much i've missed you." salem let out a small chuckle. it was probably a bit dramatic but it was genuine.
naturally more of a recluse, luna hated the days she designated for being outside. she was someone who much preferred the comfort of their tarantulas, their cat, their candles, their books, and ( most importantly ) their bed. they usually tried to knock everything out in one day which meant that day had already been piled high with multiple things: office hours with at least two of her professors ( but with the way luna yapped it ended up being four ), a studio session, grocery shopping ( for their apartment but also for drew and rafas ), a library date to check in all their old books and check out new ones, and a trip to casablanca to interview more locals on the folklore they needed for their thesis. she nearly fell into blooms & coffee, looking a little worse for wear, when salem appeared like a beacon of light. they flopped down in the chair across from her, their backpack too heavy, arms nearly falling off from the weight of the books they carried, and her boots untied and numbing their feet the longer she stood. the relief was enough to make them laugh. " do you think anyone would judge me too much if i take my boots off right now ? ⸻ fuck it. " they sighed, yanking the platform boots off her feet. " i dress like i'm not dependent on my feet to get me everywhere, this is ridiculous. i didn’t mess up your journal did i ? " the worry struck quick as she pulled her books toward her side of the table.
salem smiled as leon wrapped his arm around her and planted a quick kiss on his cheek. it was refreshing the way they fell back into the groove of their relationship. "well...it's cute but not enough for me to want to buy it." she shrugged before placing the ring back down on the table. salem took his hand in hers as the two continued to walk by the various souvenir tables before stopping at a shaded off spot beneath a tree. "well usually i'd want to be backstage but i think i want to watch from the crowd this time." leaning back against the tree she draped her arms around his neck looking up at him. "that way i'll be able to get better pictures of you and i can vlog some of the performance for you if you want." salem had been taking pictures of leon on stage since the two became friends and it ended up becoming a reoccurring thing when they officially started dating. "who knows, maybe i'll run into jlo in the crowd and we can finally become best friends."
leon chuckles and turns the camera off. "okay so first, i'm not shoving the camera in your face, so relax," he teases as he puts the device back in his backpack. "vivi loves you. you know that." the man puts an arm around her waist as he too focuses on the souvenirs. magnets and notebooks and rings and macrame bracelets. "i like this one," he smiles pointing to a silver-colored ring that has a tribal pattern. "they're too small for my fingers tho. maybe you should get it." he squeezes her tighter against his body. being back together with salem feels natural. he'd missed her too much. having his girl back on his side is what makes him happy. "do you wanna see my show from the crowd or backstage? i can get you a pass."
"you mean to tell me this entire time i didn't have to pay you to get encouraging words from you?" salem teased as esme sat down in the seat across from her while quickly making space for the other. "i promise you're never intruding on me. i don't mind one bit! plus it gives us a chance to catch up somewhere else that isn't a dimly lit bar for once right?" she chuckled before taking a sip of her coffee. salem nodded as esme spoke about what she'd been up to, a bit taken back that her favorite bartender was no longer at los fantasmas. "wait you're at catch now?! any reason specifically or did you need a change of scenery?" she asked curiously. "i'll come to any bar to see you, that's never an issue. i've dealt with worse people before."
꒰ა ♡ ໒꒱ --— " you know, i'm proud of you. and i can promise i mean it, because i'm saying it without you giving me money. " esme sends salem a smile, settling into the chair across from her. she sets her back on the lone third chair — she figures she'll be here for a while, might as well get cozy. " do you mind me sitting with you for a bit ? i don't wanna intrude. just glad to see you alive and not a corpse in your house, y'know ? " the ribbing is gentle, and she nods while sipping her coffee. " needed a recharge — trust me, i get it, you don't have'ta be sorry. i'm good, actually ! oh, that reminds me — got a new job. i work exactly one day a week at catch now, so you're gonna have to make the trek out if you wanna see me. i understand if not, though, sometimes those people suck. "
salem didn't know the person throwing the party too well but the invite was extended after meeting a couple nights ago at one of the local bars. she didn't think about this person possibly knowing her ex or him being in attendance either, that was the first mistake she made that night. she'd been drinking and mingling throughout the night with strangers trying her best to take advantage of being in a new place. most of her time in valpo so far consisted of meeting new people and doing things she normally didn't get a chance to do. she started chatting with this guy about music and the two were seemingly hitting it off until a familiar voice interrupted the conversation. unsurprisingly it was leon and he was pissed. "fantastic." she said sarcastically while the other walked off leaving the two alone. "well, i was flirting with that guy and trying to have a conversation. please don't make me hire security in a completely different country."
house parties. house parties are great when you're trying to forget about the girl who keeps breaking your heart. and so leon took a shower, put on his black pants and tight tank top and left the apartment to go party at one of those houses up in the hills. it was all fine, he was a little drunk and a little high and he was honestly having a good time. but then, he saw her. he tried to avoid her, and it worked for a while. and now that he goes outside for a cigarette, leon sees salem all over some other guy he doesn't know. just flirting and laughing. this makes him so mad. "excuse me," he says as he approaches the pair. his stare is so apparently intimidating that the other guy leaves. "what are you doing?" he asks salem.
