i love that every pokémon is someone’s favourite pokémon. it doesn’t matter how much you dislike a pokémon or how forgettable you you think a design is, out there is someone who thinks it’s their baby. my coworker who only discovered pokémon through pokémon go absolutely loves tangela and has a small army of fully powered up ones. at an expo once i saw a woman at a booth desperately trying to find an onix plushie because it was her daughter’s absolute favourite. i talked with someone recently who announced sudowoodo as their tippy top favourite. every single one is loved by someone and idk, i think that’s gotdang heartwarming
Kinda in love with the idea that different places on other sides of the world can look so similar. Something something universal human experiences
2022 EDIT - This website is actually not super great for anything prior to the 20th century (admittedly i was not familiar enough with older eras to tell the difference, my expertise is all in the last 100 years and the 20th century costumes from this website legitimately are pretty close to what they’re supposed to be) as the costumes are meant to be recognized on the stage by everyday folk, NOT to actual historians.
If y’all want some Actually Good historical fashion references, please check out shoomlah’s blog! They have a lot of really good, accurate historical fashion references, such as this masterpost. There are also a lot of blogs out there dedicated to historical fashion, like @lookingbackatfashionhistory ! You can also check out online archives of fashion museums, and that all is just the tip of the iceberg. The rest of this post is going under a read-more, do not trust anything beyond this point 🥴 250k notes and five years later it’s about time i set the record straight for the silly shit i posted as a teen before i had more knowledge on fashion history. It is actually a very fun topic to explore so I hope those NEW links will be very helpful to you character designers out there!

All the arms and hands studies and practices I did to level up my anatomy drawing.
Ohh, so I was looking at my storage and found these! I originally shared them on twitter before yeeting the platform. Anyway, feel free to use! Art memes for your oc :D
Hi! I just wanted to say I love your art and your characters so much their like some of my favorite ocs I've ever interacted with. But I was wondering if you don't mind answering what do you do when it comes to drawing different body types, I struggle a lot with that in my own art
Hello and thank you both for liking my characters as well as the fanart!!!
For drawing different body types, I studied lots and LOTS of anatomy for a long time. It can be daunting, but it takes a lot of dedication, study, and practice. Here's some stuff that I hope helps!
[sorry, edited for fixed links]
If you are looking for a more realistic style:
The Morpho Books for muscled and fat bodies are great. There are PDFs online too, but you didn't hear that from me
A drawn guide about how fat sits on the body
photography series about different types of olympic athletes
If you'd prefer to do a more stylized look, then focusing on shapes is really helpful! I find it's easiest to study other artists and surround yourself with diverse art. Here are some examples!
Stylized drawings of many body types!
More stylized body diversity
Even more diverse bodies!
A guide for how to draw fat women, by my wife!
And a guide for how to vary the ratio of muscle and fat
About 10 years ago I was working for a gaming company doing creature design. After work, I would go home and dissect animals in my garage. I borrowed a tiger carcass from a local taxidermist. I wanted to understand how the jaw muscles worked, so I stop motion animated it.
The muscle on the back of the head (Temporalis) bulges out when the jaw is closed. But when the is jaw is open, it depresses in like the surface of a trampoline. But not uniformly, in a Y shaped pattern.
I ended up getting evicted for stop motion animating tiger parts in my garage…..but it was worth it. I still have hard drives full of animal carcasses reference animations today. Fun Times.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
