nvm i think im not entirely the issue i think the meltdown kept getting worse bc my mom is just rly bad at talking and if i had the support of someone whos chill abt it ill be ok. cus she was saying stuff like “im [age] im going to die soon i cant help you forever” like great im already stressing out and now i gotta think about my parents mortality on top of it too

i dont want to blame her bc shes genuinely trying but man oh man

adhd is like, it mostly isnt there, until you have to do paperwork then suddenly its a whole meltdown and feeling like maybe you arent made for this world and should not be here

something i realized abt art eventually is that a huge part of having a style is abt what textures you want to depict the things you draw as having and that has nothing to do with realism.

ive looked at the works of some artists with rly impressive, sleek, cool styles, and while they definitely have a solid knowledge of realism the coolness doesnt really come from realism like at all. some people render hair like they render glass or jello so the hair looks so colorful and shiny but rhat is absolutely not realistic. some people render their characters clothes like latex or leather or silk so the fabric looks so glossy and sleek when thats probably not what theyre realistically wearing, but it *looks* cool and pleasant.

this really answered my age long questions abt why i spent all my time in art school but still struggle to make my arts like, specifically stylistically appealing, in ways those artists do it. because real life isnt appealing all the time. i can render skin as realistically as possible and i deflate and feel like i shouldve just kept it flat, because maybe i wouldve rather imagined i was looking at paper rather than human flesh. this doesnt mean all that time studying realism was a waste though because you still need to learn how to render materials/textures like glass and silk realistically to achieve those forementioned styles.

thats just me tho not everyone aims for their styles to achieve the effects that i personally find fun. the point of this post is to inspire people to pay attention to how textures affect style more. do you want your art to have a warm cozy feel? study the textures of blankets and plushies and try applying them even if its not realistic (eg hair). do you want your art to be cool or pretty in a delicate way? study how porcelain or glass reflect light and maybe render skin like that… the possibilities r endless

just watched someone correcting someone else saying the mythology of a carp jumping over the dragon gate to become a dragon is japanese and not chinese and like.

so silly to me when people very confidently say things about culture or mythology like “umm actually its not from (country) its from (the country thats literally right next to the first country)” without even looking anything up. like yes multiple countries and places are absolutely not capable of sharing the same or similar things between their cultures ever, no!

it would blow these peoples minds to pieces if i told them a popular chinese tradition thats still practiced today actually came from jewish people moving out of egypt in the ancient past and the chinese tradition and jewish tradition that came from the same event are still very similar lol. they could not fathom how far stories can travel

i saw a post on twitter by a european saying americans are fake for their random compliments to strangers and their general cheery demeanor and like no. no no no you don’t understand. if you get a random compliment from an american on the street about your outfit or whatever, that is 100% genuine. we mean it. we aren’t lying we are making a small but fleeting connection with you because our lives are shitty but the human condition is enduring. oh god i’m clutching my chest

ngl now rhat im thinking abt it tintin has always had some weirdly toxic yaoi moments because whqt do you mean one of the villains kept a whole grown man locked up and intoxicated in a cabin so he can secretly take over the ship

i feel like at least a solid 50% of my questionable awakenings as a baby was due to the situations tintin and haddock kept getting into in the series

every single server with a “vent channel” is awkward, creepy and toxic so i came up with the idea of a “medical status” channel which i didn’t even have to write rules for everyone just read my mind and is perfectly using it as intended and hopefully it speaks for itself
