Who Neuvillette is as a character absolutely explodes my brain whenever I think about it too hard.
He is the original dragon ruler of the world that was vanquished by a foreign entity. He gets reincarnated in the form of a member of his own vanquisher's people and is given the position of the chief judge in their society. But instead of using his societal role and strength to enact revenge, he develops a sense of compassion for his usurper's creations that is so powerful it makes the skies themselves weep whenever he is confronted with their pain. Like are you kidding me. Are you fucking kidding me

Summary: It doesn't take Neuvillette long to realise that Wriothesley is a special young man, but all the longer to understand what influence this will have on him and how he is supposed to deal with it. After all, love is not something you can learn from books or interpret like laws.
Wriothesley had never particularly liked rain, nor did he despise it. Actually, he just never thought much about it. Few people actually like rain. It is a natural and necessary part of life and nature, sure, and the sound of raindrops on your window can be pretty relaxing, but who would really claim to like getting soaking wet outside in the rain?
However, rain was the last thing he saw after his trial so many years ago. When he had left the Opera Epiclese in chains, ready to be escorted to the Fortress of Meropide, there was nothing to be seen of the pretty blue sky the painters of Fontaine used to portray their city with. Instead, there had been grey clouds above them, and a steady rain was falling on the trottoir, letting everything look darker and sadder than usual. Wriothesley would have had to lie to pretend that it did not match his mood.
He had been fully aware and prepared that this was where his actions would lead him, and he did not even bother to lie or pretend when he was put onto trial. Yes, he had committed a major crime, and still, he did not regret a single thing about it. He was aware of the consequences, and he was ready to take them. Still, it would have been great to see the sun one last time. Back then, he did not know much about the Fortress of Meropide, but everybody knew that it was a place no rays of sunlight were able to reach.

some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.
This is the feelings wheel by Geoffrey Roberts, shown to me by my therapist. My initial thought was, "what amazing synonyms to use for diverse emotional vocabulary!"
More than that, this wheel is great for understanding your characters inner motivations and reactions to situations. For example, if a character constantly feels helpless, then their overarching characteristics will be that they are fearful.
Characters who are less emotionally aware may use words and act in the inner most circle. Those much more aware of their emotions may describe themselves or express and use words from the outer most circle.
Hopefully you guys find this as helpful as I did! Let me know down in the comments.
