I think that more fanfiction should be written with the aim to tackle the original meaning of hanahaki. Because when the concept of hanahaki disease was originally created, it was intended to be a metaphor for suppressing one’s feelings.
Your feelings are this beautiful garden of flora inside of your chest. When you express how you feel honestly, you allow for it to grow freely. But when you hide how you feel out of fear of rejection, and try to make it smaller and smaller, the flowers become cramped inside of you, until you choke on your own feelings. Every flower you cough up is something you’ve felt, but refused to say.
The whole “dying” thing is intended to be more symbolic especially. You’re killing off bits and pieces of yourself and how you feel, because you’re afraid to express yourself.
It’s not really supposed to be, “The one I love doesn’t love me back, and I’m dying from it.” Rather, it’s more along the lines of, “Repressing your emotions is bad for you, and it’s better and healthier to express them freely, even when it’s scary.”
Which is to say that, one, the cure for the disease should be telling the person that you are in love with how you feel. How the other person feels about the person afflicted should have nothing to do with it, as the trope is meant to be about feeling your emotions unapologetically.
And that, two, it’s not an inherently romantic trope. Obviously, it has romantic applications, but it can be written for any situation where a character is hiding how they truly feel. This can include a refusal to address a specific trauma, a desire to indulge in something that they’re ashamed of, and even really practical things, like wanting to ask one’s boss for a higher position.
Although (as an aromantic person myself) I don’t agree with this conclusion about the trope, this application would also avoid people calling it arophobic. When the thing killing the character is a refusal to be honest with themselves, rather than an unrequited love, it’s on nobody’s hands but their own to save their life.
There are a ton of ways that this interpretation of the hanahaki disease could be applied in new and interesting ways in fanfiction, and I’d love to read what things people could come up with!
really love imagining a bunch a kids and teens on their pokemon journeys staying the night on the couches and floors in the lobbies of pokemon centers, having long talks about their experiences and feelings sharing funny and scary stories and myths about legendaries and trading items and sharing TMs along with sugary snacks and pokedex chargers all while their pokemon are out of their pokeballs and all bundled up in blankets sleeping soundly next to their trainers while they stare up at the stars shining through the glass ceiling over their heads
Cursed with being a Pokemon fan so sometimes I think about what kind of Pokemon game I’d make if I had any skills in making fangames.
For the region itself, I’m torn between having a desert region, a cold region with snow almost everywhere, or going wild and having the region be a bunch of floating islands. I wouldn’t base it on a real place just so I can go nuts and also I’m dumb so floating islands are possible. I like the idea of a colder region since I’m from what’s supposed to be a colder area (used to have tons of snow each winter but there was barely any this year), but Sinnoh and even Galar are already cold regions. A desert region would be unique since while the hotter regions of Hoenn and Alola do have desert areas, those regions as a whole are more tropical.
Story wise, I don’t think I’d include an evil team, just don’t have any ideas for one. There might be some random crooks you fight but they’re not part of any bigger group. Maybe I’d have a solo villain like Volo or the AI Professor but I’m not sure. Story would just be about you and your pals going on a journey together. I’d like the main rival to be a Brendan/May type where there’s a bit of implied romance between them and the protagonist, but there’s more stuff going on with them. Unsure of what to do with the second rival other than they exist and that there aren’t any more.
Making fakemon isn’t my specialty, but for the amount of new Pokemon I’d say at least 100? I get why newer gens don’t introduce as many new Pokemon as older ones but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Two ideas for the Grass starter, one would be a Grass/Rock hedgehog with quills made of rocks/maybe crystals, the other would be some kind of crocodile/alligator because I like Totodile and Fuecoco and think the trio should be completed. Fire starter could be a Fire/Steel sheep because of the golden fleece/steel wool. Got nothing for the Water starter or any other Pokemon in general.
MINIOR PLEASE YOU CAN DO THIS

For fun, here’s the order I played through Xenoblade (do not do this):
-Started with X of all things because I thought it looked cool. It’s the odd one out, with a bigger focus on side content, a customizable avatar, giant robots you can control, and almost everyone has an American accent (they’re canonically from America it’s fine). Also Shulk and Fiora’s voice actors are voice options for the protagonist, neat.
-Played 1 and it’s sidestory next when it came out on Switch, very good time.
-Played 2 after that, I skipped it when it first came out because reasons and forced myself to play through it because 3 got announced. Nia, Zeke, and being blessed by the gacha gods and summoning KOS-MOS got me through 2. I still haven’t finished the DLC.
-3 and it’s DLC after that, both are very good. I’ve heard the DLC has a lot of references to some older games the devs made but I don’t have those.
I’d recommend starting with 1 and then 2, there’s some cool stuff near the end of 2 that hits harder if you’ve played 1. X can go anywhere after 1 since it’s the closest gameplay-wise and X has some references to 1.
okay, firstly, xenoblade refers to 4 video game. Xenoblade Chronicles 1, X, 2, and 3. They're really good and introspective and you should play them. but its not that simple.
1, 2, and 3 are all on Nintendo Switch. X is on WiiU, so its okay to skip that one if you dont have the console. X is also a little wierd. It's completely different and futuristic, so even though it was released between 1 and 2, play it after those. Maybe even after 3.
The issue is where to start.
You can start with 1 or 2. Most people start with 1, naturally. I started with 2.
The case for starting with 1 goes as follows:
It was the first released
It works perfectly as a standalone if you don't want to continue after it (even though you probably will want to)
more... normal. than 2
The case for starting with 2:
worse gameplay, so its up and up from here
slightly more lore relevance, pulls u in more
get it over with bc its kinda wierd and oversexualized and Rex's voice direction oh lawd
my personal play order recommendation is 2 (and maybe dlc prequel sidestory), 1 (and included sidestory), X if you have a WiiU, 3, 3's dlc. You can swap 2 and 1, but meh.
The dlc for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is important because of the Future Redeemed Sidestory. It's so important both Protags from 1 and 2 come back, along with Computer God from 1.
and then when you're inevitably confused afterwwards, either come crawling back to me (probably in tears. you will cry) or go to Luxin on youtube. have fun, play xenoblade, live laugh lacerate.
Brought up an idea for an Arcana Swap AU of Persona 3 here (led by Fool-ka Yamagishi) a while ago. Locked in Jupiter as the name for Chariot!Junpei and I'm heavily leaning towards Ken and Mitsuru swapping ages (still unsure how to handle Strength!Shinjiro, Hierophant!Koromaru, and October 4th in general though). But uh oops I have a full lineup for a P4 Arcana Swap and a mostly complete lineup for 5. So there might be a full on Arcana Swap-verse now.
P4 Swap: Fool!Kanji, Magician!Rise, Chariot!Yukiko, Priestess!Yu, Emperor!Chie, Lovers!Teddie, Star!Naoto, and Fortune!Yosuke. Decided these randomly like the P3 swap. Biggest difference is that Teddie's a human and Naoto's a shadow. No new names for either of them yet, or an animal to base mascot Naoto on (initially thought bugs because her normal Persona looks vaguely bug-like, but that feels like something hard to make look like a cute mascot).
P5 Swap: Fool!Haru, Magician!Yusuke, Chariot!Akira, Lovers!Ryuji, Emperor!Akechi, Hermit!Makoto, and Faith!Ann. There's also the undecided trio of Morgana/Futaba/Sumi with the remaining Arcana being Priestess/Empress/Justice. The existing lineup was mostly randomly decided like 3/4, the exception being Fool!Haru because I wanted that combo. I'm just not sure how to handle the remaining three because nothing seems right. I don't want to just be lazy and go "morgana gets justice and then futaba and sumi get the girly arcana" but also Justice!Morgana could potentially go hard? Like I still plan on him staying a cat regardless of what Arcana he ends up as, but Morgana going from the fool's closest friend in one universe to their greatest enemy in another could be interesting (maybe he's involved with Yaldabaoth or something). But Futaba or Sumi as Justice could also be fun. I'm also not super attached to Magician!Yusuke or Emperor!Akechi so maybe they'll end up in the undecided gang and add those Arcana to the pool again.
1. Yes they have to fight, 2. Tell me who’s fighting who in the tags! (I’ll add the most ridiculous combos in a reblog)
Hey if you like Pokemon, there's a massive thing here that lets you pick your favorites of each type from each generation, along with other categories like starters, legendaries, variants, Spinda patterns, all that good stuff. Here's my favorites.
Maybe I'll explain why things are here later if it's for a reason other than "I just think it's neat".
I like stupid Nintendo games and other JRPGs. Call me Brim.
