Phoenix is bitter and jaded from being tricked by Kristoph in between the events of PMD1 and PMD2 and he's slowly learning to trust again but he's kind of a jerk to Apollo and the two go on a solo mission so they can talk about stuff and Phoenix winds up evolving in order to rescue Apollo from danger which is a metaphor for him opening up and learning to trust and believe again and uhhh *jazz hands*
Gumshoe is the best underrated character in Ace Attorney
Gumshoe appears in more cases (23) than any other character in the series, followed by Phoenix Wright (20), Miles Edgeworth (18) and the judge (17).
