If any of you think autistic people don’t have the capability of being powerful and scary, here’s a game

My friend Zack, me, and a few other people have a game we play in robotics when we have free time. Zack is blindfolded, he spins around for 30 seconds, and then he has to find us. (It’s like a quiet version of Marco Polo) The problem with this, however, is he has insanely good hearing, and he can tell where he is in the room by the sound of the vents. (The left side of the room has a vent that has a slightly higher pitched air flow than the one on the right, and only he and I can hear this.) So that, in combination with him being able to hear the sound of our breathing/any movement, he is scarily accurate.

The worst part? He is fucking insane. Whenever he hears someone, he lets loose a maniacal giggle and sprints to that person. There is no escaping, and it’s literally akin to some sort of horror game that’s rigged. (Imagine Outlast meets Five Nights at Freddy’s, and then you have to play hide or die.) The only person who has managed to beat him is me, and that’s because I was quiet enough until 10 seconds before the five minute timer went off, and then sprinted around the room until he ran into a chair and the alarm sounded.

TL;DR: My autistic friend has echolocation and is absolutely horrifying when playing a quieter version of Marco Polo.

autism dictionary

Some of these may be common sense, but I figured to put some key terms on here for those who don’t know.

504 Plan - A plan that ensures disabled kids will academically succeed. Similar to an IEP.

AD(H)D - Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder

ASD - Autism spectrum disorder.

A$ - Autism $peaks, aka a horrible organization that has no autistic people on the board, claims to want to find a “cure” for autism as if it’s a disease, make the parents of autistic children seem like the victims, make extremely incorrect/offensive statements about autism, etc. read this if you want more info.

Autism/Autism Spectrum Disorder - A neurological condition that’s marked by differences in learning styles, passionate interests in specific subjects, repetitive motion, and sometimes difficulty with language and communication. Typically a broader term/umbrella for other disorders (such as Aspergers Syndrome.)

Behavior - A manner of acting.

Cognitive behavioral therapy - A type of psychotherapy in which negative patterns of thought about the self and the world are challenged in order to alter unwanted behavior patterns or treat mood disorders such as depression.

Hyperresponsiveness - Abnormal sensitivity or over reactivity to sensory input; feeling overwhelmed by what most people would consider common or ordinary, such as a child reacting negatively to a hug.

Hyporesponsiveness - Abnormal insensitivity or under reactivity to sensory input, such as a child who appears deaf but their hearing is normal.

IEP - A plan that ensures disabled kids will academically succeed. Similar to a 504 Plan.

Meltdown - The body’s way of reacting to overstimulation, often confused with temper tantrums. Can be very loud or very quiet. The person experiencing a meltdown will often show signs of distress or frustration.

Obsessions - Repetitive thoughts that are persistent and intrusive.

Sensory overload - Sensory overload is basically when something overwhelms you to the point of not being able to function. Examples are loud noises, being given too much information at once, flashy lights, a certain texture. It could even be small things, like mouth noises or breathing or the squeaking of a pencil.

Shutdown - A muted response to sensory overload, typically the “opposite” of a meltdown. The person will go completely silent, isolate themselves, go completely still, etc.

Special interest - An intense or passionate love for a certain interest, such as Pokemon or the Dictionary. They are very meaningful and important, to the person, and they can either be lifelong, or they will faze out to make room for a new one.

SPD - Sensory processing disorder.

Stimming - Repetitive behavior that people with autism commonly partake in, sometimes to alleviate the stressors of overstimulation. Examples include rocking, flapping/clapping your hands, spinning a toy, pacing, etc.

Does anyone else with ADHD get told “stop speaking so loud!” Or “Lower the volume!” “Quieten down!” Etc… when you just think you’re talking normally… like when you’re desperately trying to jam the words togther in your head so you can speak normally and then you just get told “be quiet… you’re talking too loud… turn it down…” and it’s not meant with any animosity BUT you just get this horrible sinking feeling in your stomach and you can physically feel yourself deflate… Like I can’t even articulate it it just sucks uno…

Last time I made a post about this, I made a lot of people angry, but disabled individuals deserved to be explicitly protected in the constitution, and that’s that.

Constitutionally protecting disabled people literally harms nobody but the corporations and people that actively attempt to hurt them, so if you’re still mad about that, maybe you should reevaluate your outlook on life

Just for ONCE, I’d love to see a story about an canon autistic character who is COMPLEX.

Who is autistic and more.

Whose personality is rich and fun and whose autism doesn’t other them, but actually shapes them.

I want autism seen in women, and people of color, and to see how culture shapes the subtle nuances of someone on the spectrum.

I want an autistic person with friends.

I want queer aspies, and autistic working professionals, whose asd actually helps instead of hindering their work ethic.

Autistics who are funny—and I DO NOT mean funny by default because they’re socially inept. I mean actually genuinely funny. I mean goofing off, cracking jokes, being the class clown.

I want to see aspies who have more than one special interest, and whose interests aren’t science and nature related.

I want girls who weren’t diagnosed until 17 or 20, and who still question it because girls are conditioned to silence their symptoms and socially adjust.

I want autistic people who are actually like me.

I want autistic PEOPLE.

Do any other neurodivergents ever get yelled at because they used the wrong tone of voice and didn’t realize it? Like I was asking mom a genuine question and I just got yelled at because she thought I was being rude and sarcastic. Like… No? Please answer my question?

I think that men who rape/ sexually harass/ abuse women should be given the death penalty. I don’t care what she was wearing or that he “has a bright future”. The women who were raped/ sexually harassed/ abused could’ve also had a bright future, but his dick is apparently more important to human survival rather than women who are brilliant and creative having their entire life ruined for something they didn’t deserve. EVER.

Another reason why porn is bad..

I never liked seeing rape scenes on TV shows. I mean, what’s the point of that except shock factors? Women already know that happens, they experience that everyday, they don’t need to see that on the TV. Especially when it’s graphic. What’s the point? To the story, to the victims, to show someone being brutalized on camera?

Another reason why I don’t like it is because the majority is done and written by men and also because people actually upload the rape scenes to porn websites like XVIDEOS and jerk off to that. Yes, that’s another thing I discovered while doing my study. Men jerk off to women being raped on TV scenes. Let that sink in: Men jerk off to women being raped on TV scenes.

You know we live in a rape culture when there are people in prison for weed possession and petty theft, yet wealthy white rapists are roaming the streets.

I’m so confused... like why are churches and some religions saying that men can control women because they’re simply property and that men have the right to objectify the fuck out of women when in most of the bible verses, Jesus says to all of his disciples to respect the women... like Jesus literally suggested his disciples physically harm themselves so they wouldn’t do the things that churches and those few religions are saying is a-ok???

Dear Lesbians

Saying “I don’t like dick” or “I’m not attracted to males” IS 100% OK!

Sexual boundaries are super important. If you’re not into males, regardless of their gender identity, that’s NOT TRANSPHOBIC.

Someone telling you to date/sleep/flirt with someone if the opposite sex IS HOMOPHOBIC.

Your boundaries matter. Speak up, you deserve respect.

“Female menstruation shouldn’t get in the way of education!”

*Me at 13 in the nurse’s office lying helplessly on a sofa, literally whining and crying because it was the worst pain I’d ever felt in my life and how it was like I’d been stabbed.*

In fairness to the nurse, she was nice. She called it a “tummy ache.” That is what it was always called when we girls had that situation.

*male administrator approaches me* “Now, you’re not on anything…are you?”

*Me* “WHAT? Of course not. Are you mental?” If I’d rolled my eyes anymore, they’d have fallen out of my head.

I’d like to tell you he had the decency to look ashamed of himself but, as best I recall, he did not.

Just because someone didn’t say no,

🌸 doesn’t mean they asked for it 🌸

🌸 doesn’t make it consensual 🌸

🌸 doesn’t mean they were comfortable 🌸

Stop spreading victim-blaming mentality. It makes people less likely to reach out for help & less likely to recover.

Media: “Female teacher seduces male student.”

Feminists: “You spelled rape wrong.”

Other Men: “She’s hot. He’s so lucky. Where was she when I was in high school?”

MRAs: “Why are male rape victims not taken seriously? It’s clearly the fault of feminists and not the fault of other men.”
