As I said before, I am not doing every possible combination (PC wise) because I just donât have that kind of time. I pulled what I thought was relevant out of the few YouTube vids that had other combos. Since this is a royal pain, I thought I would share what I have transcribed for others to use as they please. Also, Origins dialogue is a confusing mess, hopefully how Iâve mapped it out makes sense.
DA: Origins Series: Mage Origin | Broken Circle Part 2 | Broken Circle Part 3
[PC enters room just below Harrowing Chamber to find Cullen stuck within a magical cage on his knee and bowed as if in prayer]
Wynne: â(Gasps) Itâs a templar. Heâs still aliveâŠI think. We must help him!â
[PC approaches cage, goes to cutscene]
Cullen: âThis trick again? I know what you are. It wonât work. I will stay strongâŠâ *Note: He says this no matter the PC, but since Wynne is locked into your party, I suppose the âtrickâ could be herâin that the demon/mages were using people he recognized during his t*rture. Otherwise, it doesnât really make sense (imo) for any PC outside of a mage. Unless he was hallucinating and seeing something else before realizing it wasnât real.
Mage PC Options: A Stringâ
Are you alright?
Cullen! Donât you recognize me? (Mage only)
A templar, and it seems he is a prisoner.
What wonât work? *Note: The options vary in wording based on the PC, but the general thought behind the options is the same.
Options 1 & 3 & 4 â (To âThe boy is exhaustedâ) Option 2â Cullen: âOnly too wellâŠhow far they must have delved into my thoughtsâŠâ(To âThe boy is exhaustedâ) Wynne: âThe boy is exhausted. And this cageâŠIâve never seen anything like it. Rest easyâŠhelp is here.â Cullen: âEnough visions. If anything in you is humanâŠk*ll me now and stop this game.â
*No Leliana and/or Non-Mage PCâ Cullen: âYou broke the others, but I will stay strong, for my sakeâŠfor theirâsâŠFilthy blood magesâŠgetting in my headâŠI will not breakâŠIâd rather d*e.â
*With Lelianaâ Leliana: âHeâs delirious. Heâs been t*rturedâŠand has probably been denied food and water. I can tell. Here, I have a skin ofââ Cullen: ââDonât touch me! Stay away!â
Female Mage Onlyâ Cullen: âSifting through my thoughts⊠Tempting me with the one thing I always wanted, but could never haveâŠâ* *If Zevran is presentâ Zevran: âSomeone was quite the little heart-breaker when they were an apprentice. My, my.â Cullen: âUsing my shame against me⊠My ill-advised infatuation with her⊠A mage, of all things.â
Male Mageâ Cullen: âFilthy blood magesâŠgetting in my headâŠI will not breakâŠIâd rather die.â
Cullen: âI am so tired of these cruel jokes⊠These tricks⊠theseâŠ(sobs)â
PC Options: B String (Female Mage Options)â
UhâŠI donât think I should be hearing this.
Stop it. Youâre embarrassing me.
This is no trick. Weâre here to help.
(All) Cullen: âSilence! Iâll not listen to anything you say. Now begone! Still here? But thatâs always worked before. I close my eyes, but you are still here when I open them.â *Note: This is how he responds to B String no matter the options/PC
Mage PC Options: C Stringâ
Just tell me where the surviving mages are.
Makes you wish you hadnât said those things, doesnât it? (Female Mage Only)
Iâm real, and Iâm here to help you.
I am no trick of the mind.
Youâre pretty dense, arenât you? *Note: Again, optionsâ wording is different based on PC, but gist is the same.
Option 1â Cullen: âWhat others? What are talking about?â Option 2 (Female Mage Only)â Cullen: âI am beyond caring what you think. The Maker knows my sin, and I pray that he will forgive me.â
A. There is nothing wrong with liking someone. B. Why does it cause you so much pain? C. Iâm sorry if I ever led you on. It would never have worked.
Option 2A/2Câ Cullen: âIt was the foolish fancy of a naive boy. I know better now.â Option 2Bâ Cullen: âYou are a mage and I, a templar. It is my duty to oppose you and all you are.â
All other optionsâ Cullen: âDonât blame me for being cautious. The voicesâŠthe imagesâŠso realâ (To âBut why have you returnedâŠâ)
Cullen (Mage PC): âBut why have you returned to the tower? How did you survive?â
Cullen (Non-mage PC): âDid Greagoir send you? HowâŠhow did you get here?â (Go to E String)
Mage PC Options: D Stringâ
I defeated everything in my way. Now itâs Uldredâs turn.
Greagoir told me what happened; I knew I had to help.
I survived through quick wit and talent, of course.
Is it so surprising that Iâve returned? This was my home.
Options 1 & 2â Cullen: âGoodâŠk*ll Uldred. K*ll them all for what theyâve done.â Option 3â Cullen: âYes. How proud you are of your power. Just like Uldred and look whatâs become of him now.â Option 4â Cullen: âAs it was mine. And look what theyâve done to it. They deserve to d*e. Uldred most of all.â
Cullen: âThey caged us like animalsâŠ.looked for ways to break us. Iâm the only one leftâŠâ*
Cullen: âThey turned some intoâŠmonsters. AndâŠthere was nothing I could do.â
*(If Oghren is present) Oghren: âI think you need a tall mug of ale to calm you down, lad. I may need one myself, come to thinkâŠâ Cullen: âThat was inappropriate, dwarf. But what more could be expected from an ignorant, cave-dwelling heathen?â Oghren: ââIgnorant, cave-dwelling heathenââŠ? (Chuckles) Have we met before?â Cullen: âWhat do you know about the magesâ evil, anyway? You didnât see what they did to the others.â
Mage PC Options: D2 Stringâ
Where are Irving and the other mages?
Uldred will pay for what heâs done.
You must stay strong.
Be thankful it wasnât you.
Option 1â Cullen: âWhat others? What are you talking about?â Options 2 & 3â Cullen: âAnd to think I once thought we were too hard on you.â Options 4â Cullen: âDonât think Iâm not gratefulâŠbut why should I live when my friends lie dead, their bodies and spirits broken? And to think I once thought we were too hard on you.â
Mage PC Options: E Stringâ
Iâve heard talk of others. Of survivors.
Weâre not all evil, Cullen.
Watch what you say to me. I am a mage. (Mage only) *Note: Differs for non-mage, but same gist.
Option 1â Cullen: âWhat others? What are you talking about?â (To âIrving and the other magesâ) Option 2â (To âOnly magesâ) Option 3â Cullen: âDid a mage not start this? Isnât one of you to blame? â
Cullen: âOnly mages have that much power at their fingertips. Only mages are so susceptible to the infernal whisperings of the demonsâ.*
Cullen (Non-mage PC): âTo think I once felt pity for the Circle. Now, Iâd like nothing more than to wipe their taint off the face of Thedas.â*
*Wynne: âThis is a discussion for another time!â (Move to âIrving and the other magesâŠâ)
Wynne: âIrving and the other mages who fought Uldred. Where are they?â Cullen: âThey are in the Harrowing Chamber. The sounds coming out of thereâŠoh, Maker.â Wynne: âWe must hurry. They are in grave danger, I am sure of it.â Cullen: âYou canât save them! You donât know what theyâve become.â
Mage PC Options: F Stringâ
We canât just kill them all.
I am a mage too, Cullen.
And you do?
I donât understand. What are you afraid of?
Options 1 & 3 & 4â (To âTheyâve been surroundedâŠâ) Option 2â Cullen: âBut you havenât been up there. You havenât been under their influence.âÂ
Cullen: âTheyâve been surrounded b-by blood mages whose wicked fingers snake into your mind and corrupt your thoughts.â*
*If Alistair is present: âHis hatred of mages is so intenseâŠthe memory of his friendsâ death is still fresh in his mind.â**
Cullen: âYou have to end it now before itâs too late!â
**Female Mage Onlyâ Wynne: âHeâs suffered pain and anguish like few have had to endure. That and his lust for revenge have confused the issueââ Cullen: ââDo not presume to judge me, mage! I am thinking clearlyâfor perhaps the first time in my life.â
Part 2 of Broken Circle Here
(Expressions/Body Language During Conversation)
Addition: He also seems to say these two lines to a female mageâ
Cullen: âWhen you knew me, I was an innocent. I wanted to be a knight, but I never really thought about why we were needed.â
Cullen: âNow, my eyes have been opened. The naivety I once had is gone forever. But I welcome the change as long as it helps me better serve the Chantry.â
I found these in this tumblr post, but could not get them to trigger, so I am not sure whatâs required to make Cullen say them. In truth, Iâve never heard these lines in any of my playthroughs of DA:O or any available to watch online. If someone knows how to trigger them, I would greatly appreciate if you could tell me.

getting emotional over world of warcraft bc looking back on it they literally aged anduin in the expansions at almost the exact same rate I actually grew up. so I spent my childhood having an npc MY AGE in my favorite game that my dad had shown me, GROWING UP AS I GREW UP.
and him not having many peers in game until mists of pandaria matched how I didn't have friends I could nerd out about high fantasy shit to until I was around 16 either.
and now I haven't played in a while bc I don't have money to (and my laptop has started slowly dying), and I get on tumblr to check the tags w him and wrathion for nostalgia, AND I SEE THEM ALL GROWN UP TOO. AND I SEE THEM HAVING CLEARLY GONE THROUGH SOME SHIT TOO.
AND IT'S WAY MORE EMOTIONAL THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE
