my friend siraj abudayeh (vetted on line 219), who i've posted about frequently, has been fundraising for his family's daily survival since june of this year. read more about him here, here, and here. follow him here: @siraj2024. he is a journalist who writes frequent updates about the situation in gaza, and it is always better to get the story from the source than filtered through a western lens.
as of about a week ago, he had raised over $90,000 CAD / $64,000 USD. he had withdrawn a portion of it to pay for various daily needs, medical care, and rent.
his fundraiser had been under investigation for a few weeks and the organizer, his cousin, even sent all of their government IDs to verify that they are real people.
despite this, gofundme deleted his fundraiser a week ago. he lost over $38,000 CAD ($27,000 USD). that is a monumental loss that would devastate anyone. but in gaza, it is the loss of a lifeline.
gofundme has a pattern of baselessly investigating and terminating fundraisers benefiting palestinians, often waiting until the campaign has reached the end of its goal to terminate it and refund all donors, leaving the refugees in the dust.
in the hopes of continuing to keep his family alive while unchecked capitalism and gang violence in gaza are on the rise, and in the midst of constant bombardment, displacement, and death, siraj has opened another gofundme. this fundraiser is in his sister's name, and is being organized by a trusted friend of his who lives abroad. we hope it will not be met with the same fate as the old one.

My home was extremely damaged and no longer suitable for life. Once, I had dreams. I was like you, enjoying life, pursuing my passions. But now, every thing has changed since October 7th and grief consumes me.
Here is some details about my family:
I used to work as a tailor along with my father in Gaza city, our sewing machines and staff were totally destructed after the area where we work was demolished and levelled to ground in Shujaaya neighbourhood.
My wife, Shama 30 year old who is a well known cardiac patient, delivered my second baby girl Manal in a very bad situation in Rafah back in march 2024 with shortage of her basic and essential needs.
Yousuf, my 4 year old son who have a medical problem in his eyes has left home and his toys and still hope and dreams of going back and start school.
Manal, my 5 months old baby girl who was born in extremely bad condition while we were displaced in Rafah city. She lacks her basic needs due to high expenses.
Currently, i live along with 10 family members in an apartement by rent that costs us 500$

By October 10th, we were forced to leave our home with nothing—(no clothes, no belongings, nothing)—because our area became a dangerous war zone. A week later, we received the devastating news that our home had been completely destroyed😔😔💔💔💔.We are now displaced, with no place to call home. We have been forced to move 10 times over the past eleven months of this genocidal war. We currently live in a place barely suitable for three people, while our family of eight struggles to fit. My aunt and her one-year-old daughter were killed by the occupation. My grandfather died due to the lack of medication and the closure of hospitals because of insufficient resources. He was a heart patient who needed regular treatment, but it was cut off due to the blockade and lack of medical supplies.I was in my first week of university, finally enrolling in my dream college (medical school) after achieving one of the highest grades in my city (98.6% in the scientific branch). Now, I lost this academic year, and it seems the second year will be lost as well, with no way to change this dire situation. My elder sister, (Salwa), was supposed to be in her third year of university. She was the top of her class and aspired to participate in student exchange programs and pursue a master's degree. Now, her university is destroyed, and she is unable to do anything. My younger sister, (Abeer), was supposed to be in her final year of school, excelling academically and aiming for a high grade. Unfortunately, her school was destroyed, and she cannot continue her education. My younger siblings, Adel (13), Jana (12), and Ammar (8), also cannot continue their education. They are in crucial stages for their development and future, but everything has been shattered.Basic necessities are almost nonexistent in Gaza: cleaning supplies are scarce, feminine hygiene products are nearly impossible to find and extremely expensive, and essentials like (shampoo, soap, and laundry detergent) are either unavailable or exorbitantly priced.
