i fucking love this specific type of expression rick does whenever he’s sincerely super caught off guard by something and just stops in his tracks

I always wonder what Rick told the emergency services/what they concluded about Beth and Diane's deaths. I assume the official conclusion was probably something along the lines of 'one of Rick’s inventions exploded and ended up killing his wife and daughter' but what did Rick himself tell them? Was he too shellshocked to say anything and the neighbours filled in the gaps? Did he tell them the truth and they wrote it off as shock/grief? Did he tell them the truth but in an ambiguous way (e.g. ‘it was my fault’)? Did he lie?

Yeahhh so like I said, I am currently rewatching Analyze Piss, and I love how Dr. Wong is able to set clear boundaries with Rick, and Rick is actually able to respect them. Dr. Wong really is the best therapist for Rick, she isn't perfect, but she's able to be kind yet firm with Rick, while having a strong enough personality to stand up to Rick and smart enough to be able to get down to his level so he actually listens to her. Dr. Wong is an incredibly underrated character, she deserves more love. If my therapist ain't like Dr. Wong, I don't want her.

Please... Let no one hurt them. Let them be happy. Let them go to a kinder world.

“irreplaceable”

the one word where morty figured out this wasn’t really rick.

and no wonder morty believes rick could just up and replace him any day. because there’s infinite versions of him, after all. because there’s infinite other things that are better than him. because, for the longest time, every other day, rick kept on telling him how replaceable he is.

no wonder he was scared that hug wouldn't have been real.

but, truth is, rick would’ve jumped after him (if he had thought morty was in real danger).

truth is, rick would have performed in front of a crowd for him.

truth is, rick would anything, just about anything, for him. he would travel the longest distances just to get him back. he would spoil him with gadgets and gifts. he would forgo the chance to see his wife again just so he could spend the rest of the evening with him.

truth is, morty was wrong.

and this isn't coherent at all but im just thinking about. well aira died. for like 10 minutes she was dead. you see this child who's seen death at such a young age, you see her growing up, trying to make her mom proud, trying to be the perfect girl, and then she dies. and when she comes back there's another story like hers but on the opposite side, the weary adult side, a mirror to hers but distorted. it isn't her mom, it will never be, and all the memories of her are hazy and bright and these new memories of a life that isn't hers but could have been in some other life, these memories are dark and sharp and sting, and she's never going to see her mom again. or maybe she did, a brief glimpse in the darkness when her heart stopped beating. and that has to be enough. so she does what she has always done. she loves. and she remembers.

one of my favorite things to do in limited perspective is write sentences about the things someone doesn't do. he doesn't open his eyes. he doesn't reach out. i LOVE sentences like that. if it's describing the narrator, it's a reflection of their desires, something they're holding themselves back from. there's a tension between urge and action. it makes you ask why they wanted or felt compelled to do that, and also why they ultimately didn't. and if it's describing someone else, it tells you about the narrator's expectations. how they perceive that other person or their relationship. what they thought the other person was going to do, or thought the other person should have done, but failed to. negative action sentences are everything.
