42 fridays

42 fridays, 42 weeks. They're all that stand between adulthood and me

ME! Me! me! me. me...

Me who still throws tantrums over the tiniest things, who can cry on command

Me who doesn't eat her vegetables, who doesn't want these fridays to pass

Me who still feels like the girl she was 3, maybe 4 or even 5 years ago (alas!)

the 42, 41, 40 fridays will keep sprinting past like a personalised doomsday clock

42 fridays, 42 weeks. they're all that stand between adulthood and me

(As of today, i have exactly 42 fridays(yes i counted manually) so I word vomitted in my notes app and wrote another poem and if you read my other poems(which i doubt) you can see that my existential crisis is a recurring theme)

colours on my face

february, march and sometimes even may

these are the months I await without fail

because they're when I get to play, colours of the rainbow stuck to my face

playing with gulal is fine ofcourse but nothing beats getting drunk on the rooftops

—and throwing water balloons? that's basically a hobby, a skill that i cultivated 17 years in the making.

Never missed a year but this time maybe I will.

Because in this new city with new friends, somehow they just all seem to have different commitments.

In the city that never sleeps where's the time for the little moments?

So this year will be spent all alone, colours of the rainbow stuck in the year old memories, on the echos of past me's face.

(so this is basically me being gloomy before Holi because my friends all cancelled and I don't really know many people here which is depressing and idk I'm just posting this here cuz idk)

Anyway, while my train is stopped because of the train accident I just wanna say that my favorite thing about Odysseus is the way he introduced himself during the Trojan war.

It was customary and common for men to introduce themselves with the titles that brought them the most honor. So, hey would brag about their fathers’ names and their homelands’ legends and call themself “greatest of all warriors” or “shepherd of the people” because in their mind *these* were the titles that brought the most honor to them.

And while Agamemnon and other Greeks always address Odysseus as “Son of Laertes” like that is the title they believe will honor him the most and show their respect in conversation, Odysseus never introduces himself that way.

“Odysseus, father of Telemachus” he says. Every time.

The title he considers his greatest honor? Being a father to the son he had to leave as an infant. All the accolades of the war, every comparison to Zeus’ genius—he doesn’t give a shit. The only title he’s ever cared for was “father of Telemachus”

the last decade has lead up to this moment, this day, this week, this impending year.

a sea of doubts and unfulfilled milestones, is what drowns her - the scared little girl on the cusp of adulthood.

She doesn't know how to drive, doesn't know how to kiss.

She hasn't loved and hasn't ever been the one receiving it.

But yet, time does go on and it doesn't wait for her for to feel "grown up" .

It goes on to lead everyone to this moment, this day, this week, this impending year.

(I was trying to write a poem talking about how everything is riding on my last year of school but this reads better as prose so here I am)
