There Are Both Pros And Cons Of Social Media, But I Wanted To Highlight All The Good Sides For This One

There are both pros and cons of social media, but I wanted to highlight all the good sides for this one as people usually only mention the bad! 😄 I’m really grateful for social media for keeping me in touch with friends and for letting me share my art with you all!

Questions to keep your brand relevant

My two fave questions from this morning’s session Congratulations! Your Brand is About to Become Obsolete were:

What are you doing that’s new and interesting?

Why are you in business? (This is about your purpose, not your product)

Answering these will help you to develop new ways of interacting with your audiences.

Hidden Galaxy IC 342

Hidden Galaxy IC 342

Similar in size to large, bright spiral galaxies in our neighborhood, IC 342 is a mere 10 million light-years distant in the long-necked, northern constellation Camelopardalis. A sprawling island universe, IC 342 would otherwise be a prominent galaxy in our night sky, but it is hidden from clear view and only glimpsed through the veil of stars, gas and dust clouds along the plane of our own Milky Way galaxy. Even though IC 342’s light is dimmed by intervening cosmic clouds, this sharp telescopic image traces the galaxy’s own obscuring dust, blue star clusters, and glowing pink star forming regions along spiral arms that wind far from the galaxy’s core. IC 342 may have undergone a recent burst of star formation activity and is close enough to have gravitationally influenced the evolution of the local group of galaxies and the Milky Way.

Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?
More comfortable online than out partying, post-Millennials are safer, physically, than adolescents have ever been. But they’re on the brink of a mental-health crisis.

The disparity in online access is also apparent in what has been called the “homework gap,” or the gap between school-age children who have access to high-speed internet at home and those who don’t. Some 5 million school-age children do not have a broadband internet connection at home, with low-income households accounting for a disproportionate share.

Digital divide persists even as lower-income Americans make gains in tech adoption, Monica Anderson, Pew Research Center

It breaks my heart that there are children struggling to keep up at school because they don’t have the same access to the Internet as their peers. If you also want to help, please consider donating or volunteering: http://www.networkforgood.org/topics/education/digitaldivide/

The Museum’s Apatosaurus, Collected In The Late 1890s, Was The First Sauropod Dinosaur Ever Mounted

The Museum’s Apatosaurus, collected in the late 1890s, was the first sauropod dinosaur ever mounted anywhere. Museum preparators labored over the specimen for years before it finally went on view in 1905. These towering dinosaurs (the Museum’s specimen is 86 feet in length) are among the biggest terrestrial animals in the history of the Earth, and could weigh up to 20 tons. Apatosaurus was a herbivore, and likely ate up to 880 pounds of food per day.

Last Friday, e-commerce giant Amazon.com announced the intention to purchase health foods grocer Whole Foods for $13.7 billion.

“Never in business history have we seen a single company with so wide of a scope in its operations, so deep of its analytic capabilities, and so committed to embark on such a bold experiment. It’s set to reinvent the retail industry as we know it.“

This is What Happens When You Teach an AI to Name Guinea Pigs
As literally every sci-fi movie has predicted, we’re becoming increasingly reliant on artificial intelligence. AI can already compose music, play Ms. Pac-Man—like a pro, nonetheless—and even manage a hotel. But it’s never been used solely for the purpose of naming small, fluffy guinea pigs—until now.

What’s Up for April 2017

Jupiter, the king of the planets, is visible all night long, and the Lyrids meteor shower peaks on April 22.

image

On April 7, Jupiter–the king of planets–reaches opposition, when it shines brightest and appears largest.

image

Jupiter will be almost directly overhead at midnight.

image

This is also a great time to observe the planet’s Galilean moons–Io, Ganymeade, Europa and Callisto. They can be easily seen through binoculars.

image

With binoculars, you can even see the Great Red Spot as the storm transits the planet every ten hours.

image

Looking east on April 22, look to the skies for the Summer Triangle, consisting of Deneb, in Cygnus, the Swan; Altair in Aquila, the Eagle; and Vega, in Lyre(the Harp).

image

Get ready for the Lyrids, the year’s second major meteor shower, as it pierces the Summer Triangle in the early morning hours of April 22. Since the shower begins close to the new moon, expect excellent almost moonless viewing conditions.
