OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, let’s talk about your posture-

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, Let’s Talk About Your Posture-

there are things you should be doing now to prevent yourself from starting to look like 🥀

Why does it matter? Future you would like to avoid the pain, limited motion, and fall risk that goes along with worsening posture.

What’s the focus?

1. Keep the flexibility in your spine

2. Stretch the muscles in the front

3. Strengthen the muscle in the back

Here are some simple things you can do daily while sitting and when you get up to go into the bathroom or the kitchen

Keep the flexibility by doing these repeated movements: 10 repetitions several times a day

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, Let’s Talk About Your Posture-

The goal is to give yourself a double or triple chin. Keep your nose pointing forward, don’t let it tip up or down

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, Let’s Talk About Your Posture-

Thoracic extension- use a chair with a seat back that comes up to the level of your shoulder blades. Try to bend back over the top of the chair without arching away from the seat back and without extending your neck. If the pressure from the top of the chair is uncomfortable you can place a towel there

Stretch the muscles in the front by using a door frame. This one will feel good afterwards

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, Let’s Talk About Your Posture-

If this isn’t enough of a stretch you can do one side at a time. If you have the right arm up step forward with the right foot and turn slightly to the left. Then do it on the other side.

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, Let’s Talk About Your Posture-

Strengthen the muscles in the back by squeezing your shoulder blades together for a count of 10 and then repeating 10 times. You can do this several times a day Hint: Don’t lift your shoulder blades up

There are lots more exercises for strengthening your back muscles but this is a good starting point and easy to do. I like doing it while driving

Tips:

Do the best you can

If it hurts stop

Envision future you saying thank you each time you do one of the exercises

are some of the people newer to tumblr aware of the joys of theme customization on desktop? I know some ppl are just on mobile so they can’t really change things but like SO many blogs nowadays have 0 theme customization and just use the default theme and I’m beginning to wonder if they even know about the option. It’s one of the main reasons why I still use tumblr

I’m noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 who…uh…mayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip

Using a random fic of mine as example..

I’m Noticing An Increase In New Fic Writers On AO3 Who…uh…mayy Not Know How To Format Their Fics
I’m Noticing An Increase In New Fic Writers On AO3 Who…uh…mayy Not Know How To Format Their Fics

The left example: ✅✅✅

The right example: ❌❌❌

Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!

If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. I’m not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer but…please…ty…

hi fatehbaz, do you have a tag for recommended books? i remember seeing a few posts with your top picks from various subjects but now cannot find them

hello. sorry, i don't really tag things. but i've put together several compilation posts for reading recommendations involving imperial ecology; environmental history of colonization; ruins, haunting, and eerie/uncanny ecology; human-landscape relationships; relationships with other-than-human creatures; decolonizing environments; and my favorite authors; etc.

here's a compilation post which includes links to original stuff i've written about these topics and also a list of my favorite scholars/writers with info about their focus/specialties.

i've said this before, but i spend much more time reading essays and articles than i do reading full-length books. that linked compilation post lists some of my favorite "essential" writers:

Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert; Elizabeth DeLoughrey; Anna Tsing; Paulo Tavares; Anna Boswell; Achille Mbembe; Hugo Reinert; Frantz Fanon; Tim Edensor; Robin Wall Kimmerer; Ann Laura Stoler; Kyle Whyte; Audra Simpson; Kathryn Yusoff; Ikyo Day; Pedro Neves Marques

here's a compilation post which includes links to short excerpts (in the form of tunglr-dot-com posts) from all of these authors.

if those essays and articles aren't what you're into, and you'd rather have long-form books, then here are the two posts about my "favorite books" which you might've been thinking of: round 1 and round 2.

and here's a look at the books that i mention:

VIRGOMOON'S BLACK MUSIC COLLECTION: A Series Of Playlists Where I Collect Black Artists From Various

VIRGOMOON'S BLACK MUSIC COLLECTION: a series of playlists where i collect black artists from various genres to showcase the talent of my community; particularly that outside of typical genres you see us in.

black people created rock btw: my magnum opus. as the title suggests, here is rock music made by black people or bands that feature at least one black musician, particularly the lead singer and/or songwriter. classic rock, pop punk, hardcore, punk rock, goth, and more. this includes rap rock remixes and rock inspired rap tracks. songs range anywhere from the 60s to now.

a southern gothic tale: this playlist is just like the above, except featuring black artists who make primarily country music. there's bluegrass, folk, blues, and the like here. including covers and crossover songs. again, older music as well as newer tracks are featured here.

black alternative: black music that isn't just generic "pop", "rap", or "rnb". nothing wrong with those genres, of course, but obviously, we make all kinds of music and deserve to be recognized there too. here you'll find hyper-pop, bedroom pop, indie pop, dark pop; all those trendy sub - genres.

juicy fruit, certified bubble yum: bonus points if you know the song the title is from. anyway, here's bubblegum pop by black artists because for some reason black pop girls get labeled as "urban" and "rnb" when they're not? not necessarily? music from the 80s and on.

black girl punk!: punk and punk adjacent music from alternative black women in music. including fem presenting artists.

we've always been here: a new addition to the collection! this is every song from the various playlists collected into one major playlist. the only missing one is juicy fruit, as i wanted to showcase more unknown / underground artists and/or the songs from known artists that are a little more obscure because they're showcasing alternative genres than what we're used to from them. for example, don't hurt yourself from beyonce. a blues rock song from a known pop artist. still adding music to it as of april 2025.
