one of my favourite merthur tropes in fanfics is when Arthur and Merlin finally kiss and Arthur gets really bossy.

even better if Merlin pulls back, calls him bossy, then grins affectionately and kisses him and actually follows orders for once

Currently rewatching Merlin.

Arthur is so goddamn funny. Like every time Merlin is out of castle with him he is like "my god ,Merlin, you are so useless blah blah blah" but if you really THINK about it, there is no reason for Arthur to take Merlin everywhere with him. ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING REASON. Merlin is terrible with a sword, and im pretty sure Arthur can attend to himself in the wild (he is a hunter after all) so he probably doesn't need the servant with him this much. In 2x04 when Arthur went to rescue Gwen he took only Merlin with him. Not Leon, not Morgana (who is very good with a sword) but Merlin. It is just so fascinating to me, how strongly he craves Merlin's company

I did in fact start drafting a full fic for this… (but I am SLOW, so I make no promises)

but anyway, one scene that’s going around in my brain:

[All the contestants on the plane going to the Farmer’s Dinner or smth idk]

“Erm, why is Merlin on the plane with us?”

“He’s my plus one.”

“Arthur, this is literally a dating show.”

ok i have a dumb Merthur fic idea: Farmer Wants a Wife AU

hear me out:

Arthur is a rich bachelor who owns a farm

Merlin is his farm hand who lives in the local town

He’s been working for Arthur for 3 years- they got off on the wrong foot by insulting each other but since then have become close friends (not that either of them would admit it)

Morgana secretly signs Arthur up to the TV show Farmer Wants a Wife

Arthur has to host 4 beautiful women on his farm and take them on dates (and everything is being filmed)

Arthur starts to realise he misses Merlin- that he would rather be mucking out the stables with him, than on a boring picnic date

Maybe he kisses one of the women and realises he’s not attracted to her and he’s like Oh Shit: Sexuality Crisis

Of course some fun banter between Merlin and Arthur around the farm when they’ve stopped filming for the day- Merlin teases Arthur about the whole Wife thing

Maybe one of the women is Gwen and she Notices how much Arthur talks about Merlin, and she Notices how awful it was when Arthur kissed her, and she puts the pieces together

Maybe Arthur and Gwen become close as friends, and at some point he confides in her (off camera) and she’s like “I know.”

MAYBE ALL THE GIRLS HAVE INDEPENDENTLY FIGURED IT OUT- and they compare notes “yeah, he was SUCH a bad kisser” “definitely gay for his farm hand” AND THEY WORK TOGETHER TO COME UP WITH A PLAN TO GET ARTHUR AND MERLIN TOGETHER

Arthur doesn’t know what’s going on, but the girls keep calling in “sick” and he keeps ending up on romantic dates with Merlin???

Don’t really know how to end this, but of course they end up together, Arthur’s a good kisser when it’s Merlin he’s kissing, he remains good friends with Gwen and the girls, and they make television history

Idk if i read this in a fic or my delusional sick ass made this up, but can you guys imagine like Merlin with canonical curls and Arthur having a serious thing for them. Like his hair is always too short to see, but then one day Merlin just like was soo incredibly busy that he just forgot about his hair for weeks and then Arthur notices and like

short-circuits.

Bonus points if merlin is kind of insecure about his hair, because lets be real most curly kids are at some point, and we get fluff. Like just cotton flufff. Because turns out people like his hair??? Which makes merlin really happy but a little awkward, and then we get to see the nice side of arthur because Arthur can make fun of merlin, but god forbid merlin actually thinks something bad about himself.

Because god merlin is so cute. And arthur will be damned if he lets that cute, gorgeous, handsome- wait what? Nm he'll analyse that later. He'll feel bad if merlin is insecure, because then he can't insult him properly. Yep, thats what he's going with.. Nothing further.

Of course, its not a merlin fic without emotionally-repressed!arthur pretending to not be a simp.

Rewatching Merlin S1E2, when Merlin is dressing Arthur for his duel and just generally being incompetent because it's like his first day on the job, but imagine:

Merlin: *hands Arthur his helment* great, yeah, I think you’re all set

Arthur: Aren’t you forgetting something?

Merlin: *frowns*

Merlin: Oh, right

Merlin: *kisses Arthur*

Arthur: *turning red* No, you idiot! My sword!

i think one of the mutually agreed upon pieces of fanon that’s my favorite is when Merlin is pissed off at Arthur, he does his job Perfectly. and Arthur Hates it.

can you imagine the collective rage we would all feel if the BBC decided to finally make Merlin season 6 where Arthur returns… but then they decided to give Arthur a brand new female love interest?!?

it seems like the kinda shit they would pull, those cowards, and i just know the fandom would be absolutely livid
