starting a compilation please feel free to add more
Did something dumb with my food and nearly dropped my sandwich. Then proceeded to call myself crazy in my head before immediately remembering where I actively am. š
making some kind of connection here
TELL ME YOU DONāT SEE THE WAY SKIZZ IS LOOKING OVER AT THE LIGHT SHINING OFF TANGOāS HEAD. THEY HAD TO PUT HIM JUST FAR ENOUGH AWAY THAT HE WOULDNāT BE ABLE TO SLAP IT.
Scar has also posted a photo of the hermit bus
(ik not everyone has Twitter cuz it's a trainwreck over there, so you're welcome)
Hermit-A-Day May 11! Cubfan135 :)
Honestly, I donāt know much about Cub, but it was fun to draw his vex wings, sculk patches, and glasses :). Infecting a whole server with skulk is iconic honestly. I love the way his hair turned out and that hand is just, *chefs kiss*.
This is SO COOL
First drawing in Clip studio! really liking how it feels to draw but i'm still getting used to the UI.
I like to think that poorer mudwing homes would just slowly merge into a apartment style building with winding hallways, while richer mudwing homes have a planned layout and A LOT of painting on the outside to show off.
Iām being bullied by the chocolate pudding cup. The little pull tab thing broke off and Iām not sure if plastic utensil is strong enough to stab it.
In your Jewel redesign, you said that Wasp probably wouldnāt let her get away with full drag, but that does make me curious. What would a dragon in drag would look like?
you will not BELIEVE how much I've thought about this, both during and after designing her. I can answer your question and beyond!!
In order to properly explore Pantalan drag, I first looked to the (cultural) definition of drag itself, as well as learning some brief history. With the first known preformance occurring in 1867 (Although not truly popularized until the 19th century,) Human Rights Campaign and other LGBTQ+ organizations describe drag as a preformance art form that uses costumes, makeup and other tools to illustrate exaggerated expressions of gender identity, intended to critique gender inequality or other social justice issues. Drag has traditionally been preformed/pioneered by members of the LGBTQ+ community, predominantly gay men and/or people of color.
With this in mind, Pantalan drag was most likely created and developed by Silkwings (especially in jewel hive) as a form of protest art. I imagine the movement was later popularized by hivewing audiences, becoming more palatable to the wider public after being endorsed by a privileged group as art movements often are. While there are a myriad of social justice issues Pantalan drag could have originally meant to critique, the loss of Silkwing rights and deforestation of Pantala were probably the two main driving topics.
As for the actual production of drag costumes or makeup, Silkwings would have had to work with what was available to them - fruits, vegetables, basic dyes/craft materials and their own silk. They would construct their own jewelry using beads instead of gold, weave their garments, and grind mica with pigments and oil to make eyeshadow.
Leaves, roots and trees would be frequent design elements of early drag: with the eye-catching glamour of a dragon working to simultaneously distract detractors and seek out supporters. Heavy accessorizing and imagery of wealth would also be important to presenting Silkwings as equal to Hivewings, through metaphorical sense. The processes of creating Pantalan drag is what leads me to believe it would prosper best in jewel hive: outside of their relaxed rules and support of Silk/Hive equality, they would also have easiest access to craft materials, dyes and a lively art scene.. endorsed by Lady Jewel herself.
Just a few thoughts on drag. Thanks for asking this question! I was looking for a chance to spill and you gave it to me ( Ā“ ā½ ` ).ļ½”ļ½ā”
This this this! The pattern of her scales is absolutely stunning! I wonder if sheās constantly making her appearance as intricate as possible where the other Rainwings just let their colours flow. It would help her stand out as more refined and queenly in a crowd, though I do imagine she could stop if she wanted to blend in.
This makes me think that in making her patterning so intricate, she unintentionally takes references from the other DoD and the things that remind her of them. We all know sheās a big softy for them under that harsh exterior.
Love this design and the thought that went into it. The art is so gorgeous as well. <3
Omg Iād love to see Tsunami or Glory redesigned!! Your Peril design is so clever I love it š
two people ( @emeralddragonparagon and indigo) requested Glory this week, so here she is! thank you guys so much for the overwhelming support for these designs :3 they really took off!
Glory's design was a little difficult but very rewarding! I wanted to design her to fit with the present day in wof, where she's been queen for a little while and had time to settle in + grow into her role. She has a green/brown crown that fits under her ears, as well as some layered beaded jewelry which are inspired by the Uth Duna outfit from Monster Hunter Wilds. I wanted to make her look more regal/royal than she currently does, so I used a lot of patterns on top of the accessories.
For her scales, I liked the idea of Glory's pattern alluding to her somewhat prickly personality from the first arc, as well as leaving traces of her friends in her design - a sun on her shoulder, water-like patterns on part of her wing, amber/brown talons etc... it would be nice if Glory presented her scales with them in mind, considering she doesn't get to see the other DoD often.
as always, my askbox is open! I'm hard at work going through your requests - check back every so often to see if your favorite character has been done yet, or feel free to leave a request!
THIS! The whole original arc is about Firestar proving that despite originally being a kittypet, he can be as strong and fierce as any clanborn cat. Then every time we see a kittypet after that, they are soft and gentle and would ABSOLUTELY die immediately in the wild. Sure some would be like that but we never get to see many capable ones, especially in the first arc. (Probably to help Fire be that one stand out main character but shhh)
I love the introduction of the fact that Princess has a set of skills that the clan cats donāt! Sheās just as capable, just in a different setting from the clan cats.
Love her so much more now honestly. <3
i just love how princess is more involved in the graphic novels
I am living for the Eeyore type vibes in her face and posture <3
I need you guys to know that my sister thought tamarin was orange until I showed her my art and she was confused because she didn't picture her as blue š¤§
