Need to re-read/rewatch this later
HEY, so if you’ve been invested in the Legend of Zelda games for forever (like I’ve been), I need you to watch this video essay about Demise’s curse by Hylian Dan. Whether you loved or hated Skyward Sword, Hylian Dan did an incredible job analyzing the story from multiple literary perspectives (while actually citing his sources in a bibliography!), and he makes a powerful argument about how Skyward Sword has quietly revealed an escape from Demise’s curse, and how the answer might have been foreshadowed throughout the entire game. 👀
Authorship credit for the video cause I’m just resharing it: Hylian Dan is a former staff writer for Zelda Universe, and also wrote a viral essay on the deeper meaning behind Majora’s Mask years ago. He also has a bachelor’s degree in game design (and worked for Disney as a writer!) along with a master’s degree in theological studies. He’s also made a wonderful video essay analyzing the literary themes in Link’s Awakening, which have carried over into Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I really recommend following this guy because he’s not just talking out of his ass–he’s educated, doing his research, and actually cites his sources consistently (something I wish all video essayists did more often).
I've been following his work for a little while now and his videos deserve WAY more attention for the sheer level of quality he puts into these videos--so please give it a watch!
The name would be "Anomaly Completion"
The Idea of the Au came to me when i realized even tough frisk is truly a separate character from us,unlike Kris from deltarune who has a backstory of theyre own before we come into play, frisk has NO backstory at ALL
That made me think of the Idea of frisk NOT EXISTING before the events of the game, quite literally the moment we start the Run being the moment they are born
Then after brainstorming a little about How such Idea would interfer with the plot o realized Nothing would changed much,NOT even after the true pacifist ending because the choice to stay with toriel would lead to no conflicts with frisk real parents or Any human civilian because frisk has no connection to those
Then i realized, what If i play the reverse, frisk NOT Only Dint exist before they fall but also they cease to exist after they leave the underground,Thats why neutral runs we get ZERO Idea of what is going on with frisk...
It then hit me,It Gave me a reason for a genocide Run frisk WHITOUT the need of a player interfering or even EXISTING at all in the story
Frisk starts the genocide Run because they need more Power to keep EXISTING,and the easiest and most effective Way to obtain Said Power is a genocide run
I then realized... Wait,WHY would frisk NOT exist before theyre Fall and THEN come into existance out of nowhere and THEN suddenly cease to be From existance once they leave the undeground
I decided then to change the plot reatroactively now... My mind pierced together the clues and made an idea
Gaster, the delta rune Angel's prophecy, the implications the Power of LOVE can make a non corporeal entity more "real" from The end of genocide, the previous fallen children mistérious reasons for why would they come to Mont ebott and the world being sentient implications from The genocide Run(mostly undyne speech and background noise during It from "but the earth refused to die")
And then came the plot
The deltarune was created by gaster long in the past(because he was shattered across space-time the fact he affected something from before his own birth is kinda completely possible),the deltarune Tells the tale of an angel who Falls from The Surface to inevitably free the underground.
The world is sentient, but acts more like a computer kinda of sentient than anything Else,It receive input X then It give output Y,aways,NO exception, gaster abuses that to make the world FORCIBLY try Its best to make the prophecy inevitably comes true, not matter what
It changes things,a Flip or a coin there, gust off Wind here,a bird decides to pick the worm on the left instead of the rigth and soo on,until a giant domino effect brings chara to MT ebbot, the barrier is too powerfull and the world cannot change things inside It in the same Way It does outside of It(undyne's DT allowing It for a brief moment as the exception)
Because the world cant mess with fate inside,It cant stop chara's plan, and the Power of a Monster with a human soul is too big for It to be affected too(they ARE powerfull enough to Cross the barrier, thus more powerfull than It)
Because chara died the prophecy cant come true thus the world has to bring another child into the underground again, thus the reason why they come, but they are killed by asgore, thus the prophecy is Still incomplete
After enough disapearences on MT ebbot, the humans decide to Just straigth UP board UP the entrance to the underground and put a few more barris(not Magic ones) around the area
The world can no longer manipulate fate to being humans there because what It could do had to Still bê in line with what was possible, since entrance to the underground was now COMPLETELY sealed then It was no longer possible and thus the world has to take even more Drastic measures to Follow gaster's prophecy disguised command
It then created a entity,a blob of magical energy not that diferent from a amalgamate Monster,It Falls on top of chara's grave and thus take a form awfully similar to them due to it
Thus
Frisk's existance start, now with the purpose of the deltarune's angel ingraved into theyre Very soul
And the Run can finally start
The 2003 Astro Boy anime never got a Blu-ray release, so the copies circulating around only go up to 480p. I found out a native HD version was available on some Japanese streaming services, so I've made all the episodes available here. Enjoy!
Comparison:
Also naruto's Canon birthday
No shade to the stuff that’s currently trending at this very moment or the people posting the things. But. Today is an anniversary of a variety of major world events and NONE of them are trending.
For those who are unaware:
It’s literally autism day in every way yet it’s not trending
Lol,that a fucking lie,Otto is freaking unhinged, dude is Fine with mass murder
My favorite relationship dynamic in fiction is a worshipper and their God. Not a literal God, but their God. The only thing in the whole world that matters to them. I will live for you, I would die for you, I would kill for you. My only moral compass is You. You can do no wrong in my eyes and I will never stray from your side. I was born to meet you and to love you. You are the only being I pray to. Your life isn’t just my passion, it’s my religion. You don’t think you’re anything special but you don’t see what I see. You don’t see that you’re the only person who’s ever made me feel this way. You don’t understand how beautiful you are to me and I will devote my entire life to making you understand and accept it.
Gonna be usefull for Future fic powerscaling and backstory
About the Dragon Balls: is there anything lost in translation when it's said that they can't do anything beyond the power of the creator? Because taken as written, that...has some implications about Kami's abilities. I'm guessing if that is what it says in the original Japanese, it's meant in more of a general sense of power - the same way you could say a bunch of food has equivalent chemical energy to a bomb exploding. That's kind of the only way that statement makes sense in anything past Kami's introduction I think, but do you think it was originally intended as that, or was Toriyama's original concept that Kami could do anything the Dragon Balls do, e.g. resurrect people (or did Toriyama just not think that hard about it - also very possible!)
As a bonus mostly irrelevant side note, in trying to make that statement work, me and my friend came up with the idea that the Dragon Balls are ki-to-magic converters - so they are connected to Kami's level of power (in ki), but they convert it into the equivalent level of magical power.
So far as I know, there are a few interesting limitations on what the Dragon Balls are capable of so far as the wishes they can grant.
The "can't grant wishes beyond God's power" rule was established here, when Oolong wanted to use Shenron to kill Vegeta and Nappa.
This is an accurate translation of the original. While it's very hard to find the manga in original Japanese, the anime is another story - and I can confirm that this is what he's saying in Japanese in the anime. "That would be impossible. I was born from God; Therefore, I cannot do something that would exceed the power of God."
When Shenron says this, he's talking about Vegeta and Nappa's ki. Shenron's power is pegged to God's power, but Vegeta and Nappa have a stronger ki than he does. In fact, their ki is so great that even Kaio is dwarfed by them.
Elite Saiyans are so strong that even gods are humbled by their might. This grants them an ability that, up to this point, had never been discussed: They can resist wishes targeted at them.
This has never really come up before. First because God was only recently introduced to the cast and, prior to Piccolo, there were no characters on his level. And second, because targeting a hostile wish at someone has never happened before.
Not for lack of trying. The Muten-Roshi's plan in the Piccolo-Daimao arc was to get Shenron to kill Piccolo.
But that went about as badly as conceivably possible.
Yeah, this literally cannot have gone any worse. That is a hard fail in every possible way.
Could Shenron have ganked Piccolo before the wish to restore his youth was made? We'll never really know. It's entirely possible that the Muten-Roshi would have gotten the "beyond my power" speech then if he'd managed to succeed.
But he didn't, and so "What if Shenron just fucking killed this guy?" wouldn't get brought up until the arrival of the Saiyans.
Essentially, the main function that rule serves within the story is just that: To explain why Shenron cannot be used to just erase the new bad guy from the plot and be done with them. As the powers grow, they leave God and by extension Shenron far behind them, and so it becomes possible for characters to resist wishes targeted at them - as seen here.
Though a wish is made to return Goku to Earth, it cannot be granted because Goku resisted it. Goku's ki so far surpasses that of Muri it's not even funny, and so Porunga may only grant a wish targeting Goku if he has Goku's consent.
So far as the range of wishes that can be cast... it's not entirely clear what controls that. Dende upgraded the Dragon Balls when he arrived on Earth, increasing the number of permitted wishes to three.
Note: He means here "Two wishes if you use one of them for a multi-rez", not "We'll only get two wishes out of any usage if we want Shenron to be capable of multi-rez." Common misconception.
In upgrading the dragon, we see that some of Shenron's limitations are configured at the factory, so to speak. We have to decide what we want the new Shenron's abilities to be while we're forging him.
Though it does seem that these things can be reconfigured after the design is in place. At some point after leaving Earth, Muri reconfigured Porunga to allow multi-rez.
So Shenron is limited by God's power in terms of targeting wishes, and also by how his settings are configured.
There is a subtle implication that Dende's dragon can do three wishes because Dende has a stronger ki than the previous God's. There is, to my knowledge, no official statement one way or the other. But it is possible.
Saichoro described the Nameless Namekian as a prodigy of the Ryuzoku Namekians.
Saichoro legit doesn't believe anything short of a Super Saiyan could have bested the Nameless Namekian. Though he may be overselling NN's capabilities out of racial pride.
But in the same breath, he also notes that God is a greatly diminished shadow of what the Nameless Namekian would be capable of.
So the original Shenron was created by a Ryuzoku prodigy cut down to size.
By contrast, Dende is never described as a prodigy. Krillin confirms that his ki is itty-bitty as would be expected of a child his age.
Dende's not throwing hands with Super Saiyans any time soon.
...however.
Meager though Dende may be, he did have his dormant ki drawn out of him by Saichoro.
To give a sense of scope for what that means, keep in mind that Namekian warriors have a Battle Power reading of 3,000... but Nail is 42,000. This same process took Krillin from around 1,500 to 75,000. Having all of your dormant ki awakened is a skyrocketing effect.
So between the prodigy child of Katatz greatly diminished and the mundane Dende with a colossal buff, it is entirely possible that Dende's dragon can grant more wishes because his ki kicks his predecessor's ass.
But it could just as easily have been a personal choice by the former God.
He may have deliberately set Shenron's settings to 1 wish because he didn't want the Dragon Ball quest to be too rewarding. He didn't want earthlings to lean too heavily on miracles to solve their problems. He was pretty hands-off as a deity.
Lastly, with regard to what God himself is capable of and whether he can do the same things Shenron can.... God confirms that Shenron is capable of greater feats of reality warping than he himself is.
Wish Dragons are unique for their ability to unkill people. That is not a power that even gods possess. In fact, even climbing into the upper echelons of the divine hierarchy, the only comparable ability we've ever seen comes from the Kaioshin, highest of gods (pre-Super).
...and it can only be performed by trading a Kaioshin's life for one mortal's.
Gods cannot revive the dead. Only Shenron can.
Dont know How to Tell you this but the ammount of energy nescessary to punch a Hole in reality(in fact, even mess with space time in ANY Way even a ridiculously small one like a 0.01 Second of time dilation) is not gonna even leave a corpse because even that wouldve been atomized from The sheer RAW energy in there
Danny's New found Powers are pratically the only reason he survived It to Begin with
Honestly, I find the idea of Tucker being cursed with bad luck so fucking funny. Like, imagine that the majority of mishaps and unfortunate accidents were due to the Tucker’s bad luck, but the idea of him being a trouble magnet just. Didn’t cross their minds. If anything, everyone from Danny’s circle of friends, acquaintances and (fre)enemies believes that it is Danny who’s cursed with shitty luck because of all the bullshit he and his (relatively) happy band of clowns get involved with.
And then Tucker leaves for vacation with his parents for a week, and it’s the quietest Amity Park has ever been. No ghosts, no natural disasters, no creepy circuses with their sicko ringmasters; the sun is shining and birds are chirping, the school is less horrible than usual, Vlad is on some sort of business trip and left the town, Sam’s mother decided to leave her alone for a change and Danny even gets enough sleep at night! They’re thriving, man!
Tucker, meanwhile, is locked in a twisted survival horror with only his beret for a company and is having a horrible week. Afterwards it was assumed that it’s because some kind of creature akin to Youngblood followed him to make his life a living hell, therefore Sam, Danny and Tucker decided to stick together as much as possible to prevent it from happening again. And the cycle continues.
