JM JK timeline.- my observations how they grew over the years - 2018

Disclaimer:  these are my own opinions and conclusions.  Feel free to disagree, but hate or aggression will be unacceptable.

As per previous years, this one is pretty long, so it will be posted in several parts.

Part 1

2018 was a bitter sweet year for BTS.  This was a year the option of disbanding was on the table. 

This is the year Tae’s grandfather passed away days before the members were about to leave for Malta and the filming of BV3. 

We don’t know exactly what happened between the members, did they all want to disband or only certain members thought they had enough? Was there a personal issue in the mix? We have no way of knowing.  

What we do know, because that’s what they chose to share with us, is that for the band members this was a year filled with doubt, insecurity as to what their communal future holds.  

It was also a sweet year which brought more love and recognition worldwide for the band.

Within that context JM and JK’s relationship only became stronger.  They had each other to turn to, to depend on, to be their crutch in this emotional hard time.

2018 is post the couple’s Tokyo trip, a trip they come back from with a stronger bond.  This much needed private trip gave them the time to solidify their connection.  

Yes, prior to the trip they spent much time together, but how much out of that was in private?  In Tokyo they had the time to be fully themselves, by themselves, 24/7.  Do whatever they want, mostly wherever they wanted (within the limits of being an idol that would be recognized out in public). 

This freedom can be intoxicating. And coming back to ‘real life’ from that is not easy.  They are aware that nothing has really changed back in ‘real life’, that they still need to be hidden, but it’s so much harder to do that, when your bond has strengthened, when you see how good it can be when you are left to be alone, to be yourselves together.  So, this confidence they gained during this trip shows throughout 2018, they are pushing the boundaries of what is allowed to show even more.

I also believe that they do so even more in the aftermath or lack thereof to GCFT.   JK knew that GCFT could most definitely backfire.  JK is not stupid.  He was fully aware of the possible repercussions, and yet he decided to put it out there for all of us to enjoy.  And awaiting for the shit to hit the fan, imagine his surprise when nothing, absolutely nothing, happens. The take from that, in my opinion, for both young men was that boundaries can be pushed, that maybe they can really get away with so much more, and that allows them more freedom (not total freedom just yet) with each other, even in public, even on camera.  That is the basis, to me, for Jikook in 2018.

What Jikook moment do others see as a big moment and you think is small/not that big and what moment do you think others see as small/not big enough but you think is actually a really big moment?

Sorry anon for taking a bit to answer this. I wrote a whole post here and everything was deleted with one key stroke. The level of frustrations...ugh.

So, I'm starting again, probably the writing will not be as good, as my masterpiece was just deleted by my own hands (wait a second, I'm crying here...).

Big moments talked about a lot I think aren't as big and moments that aren't talked about enough, my take here:

When I talk about a big moment, for me it's looking for a moment that screams out either non platonic attraction, one sided or mutual, or behavioural signs they are in love or a couple.

I'll start with a big moment, huge moment in the fandom, that I take with a grain of salt, and that's the rainbow unicorn photo shoot.

This moment is considered huge because of the prop used and the poses and obvious chemistry between those two.

The reason I take this one with a grain of salt is mainly because this is a photo shoot. With props, outfits & poses. We don't know just how much of artistic freedom they had. Who chose that specific prop and why, who chose the poses.

Now, I know this unicorn was used in a pride exhibition or march in SK prior to the shoot, but we have no idea why it was chosen for the shoot and if it was chosen specifically for those two for a reason. Many assumptions have been made, wrongfully in my opinion.

Yes, the chemistry between them is palpable, no doubt, but were these directed poses or something they came up with? Again, we don't know.

I don't say I don't love this moment/s. But is it something that I can add as a big moment, something that means they are together? For me the answer is not enough.

Now, as for moments I think deserve more attention, moments I think are big but not talked about enough in the fandom.

I am really finding it hard to limit myself here to one moment here. I have come down to three moments, two that in my opinion are not talked about enough because they are less about the chemistry or love and more about a 'love quarrel' moment, a part of couple behaviour people look for less. The third moment is mentioned here and there, but not enough, and also not a lovey dovey moment, but more a reaction and other members behaviour around the two of them moment.

I'm bad, I know I'm bad, I just can't choose, so I will talk, not too much, I promise, about all three:

I will start with a moment that screamed 'lovers quarrel' to me the second I saw it. I'm talking about the KBS song festival 29 Dec 2016. That was the day JM performed his dance with Taemin & JK performed 'I'm a flying butterfly' with the 97 liners. Both didn't seem to be in a bad mood during the event (what footage I managed to find of them). But then, at the end of the event we have a worried Hobi, checking up on JM, a JM visibly pissed at JK and a blank faced JK that won't even look JM in the eyes.

You could cut the tension there with a knife. When you look at JK's face here it reminds me a bit of his facial expression when JM approached him during the Manila concert (what is known as 'The Manila fight'). Both are clearly not happy.

Another 'lovers quarrel' moment not noticed or spoken about too much is what I like to refer to as 'The dream catcher necklace saga', from 2017 summer package.

The boys were given a budget each to purchase themselves a gift.  They are taken together to a gift shop, where they check the merchandise out and each buy themselves a little souvenir.  When they all sit down to show each other their gifts, that’s when this moment happens.

JK takes out his gift. I once again want to emphasize, this is a gift he bought with his budget for himself.  He explains it’s a dream catcher and says he will put it in his room.

JM, sitting next to him, takes it from JK and says: “this is a necklace Jungkook-ssi”.

JK blurts out adamantly that he won’t hang it around his neck.

This is when things get awkward, because you can see JM is clearly upset, throws the necklace back at JK and says: “OK, then”.

JM has a dream catcher necklace around his neck too, and when it’s his turn to tell what gift he bought himself he takes the necklace off and gives it to V, saying he bought the gift for V, who had a nightmare last night. Did he really? Buy it for V, I mean. Or did he do that as a 'teaching moment' for his bae? Or maybe he was just pissed at JK, so this was payback. Who knows. It was a mini tantrum of sorts.

And after JM’s mini tantrum JK, who previously adamantly professed he will not put it around his neck, does everything he can to put the necklace on, finally turning to JM to help him put the it on, which he does.

Later on, while sitting for the personal interview, with the necklace around his neck, he tells us how from now on he won’t have nightmares.

What did I get from all that?

Clearly JM was pissed at JK’s reaction.  Why?  JK clearly bought this by himself for himself.

But did he?  Was it something he chose for himself, or was it something JM suggested to him? Was it something JM wanted to buy for the both of them? Both to wear the necklace, that clearly JM already had around his neck.

It's obvious JK's reluctance to wear the necklace offended JM. It pissed him off.  JK’s comment felt as a rejection. You see it in the way he reacts to JK's words.

And then, the way JK immediately changes his attitude towards the necklace, trying to put it on, when only a second earlier he said he won’t put this around his neck, shows how attuned he was to JM, how he immediately realised he did something wrong, something to upset JM, and how he tried, in his own way, to atone for it, by wearing the same thing he but seconds ago rejected.

Last underrated moment for me is JM's 2017 birthday surprise Bangtan bomb.

JM gets flowers sent from his father.  J-Hope and Suga pretend JM’s dad has arrived to surprise JM, Suga pointing and saying he saw him.  JK slowly backs up, shocked and alarmed smile on his face, trying to move behind RM.  Then the boys start laughing.

Now, why do I think this is such a big moment?  Well, when the boys start laughing, revealing it was a joke, the one Suga points at, laughingly, is JK.

The whole thing feels like a joke on JK, not JM.  JK is the one being teased.   Why would JK be so stressed out from JM’s dad being there?  And why would the boys be teasing him like that? Hm…

The funny thing is that the camera is on JK and Suga, not on JM, who was supposedly just told his father was there. That feels slightly strange to me. Wouldn’t they want to catch JM’s reaction? Not JK’s?

So, what do we get from that moment? JK's stressed that JM's dad is there. Why would he be stressed by that? Oh, what a second, maybe because he's 'the boyfriend' (ahm)?

We get the boys playing a joke on JK. It's JM's birthday, wouldn't the joke be on him? But no, the focus is on JK... ahm again. That being, yet again, a sign that the boys know exactly what's going on between JM & JK. Otherwise, why would they be teasing JK like that?

Another interesting point I took from this whole Bangtan bomb was the focus of the camera being on Suga & JK when this whole thing is going down, rather than on JM. You would think the joke is on JM, but no, it's on JK, and for some reason the camera man knows it?

This......yep.....

Just Say You're Jealous of Jimin and Go.

I wasn't planning on saying anything about the drama on Twitter this morning after the group photo was posted after the press conference. But its honestly ridiculous, so consider this me venting it out here for a moment. BTS dropped an amazing song, had a wonderful press conference, and dropped a group photo where jikook were... jikooking. It was amazing and I'll probably never be over it! And IMMEDIATELY hate started going around under Big Hits account and on the timeline for Jimin and Jikook. Its not even about ships anymore, its about basic respect for a group you say you "stan" and love.

Not only were weird edits made of Tae or other women idols in place of Jimin, but the amount of defensive "they are brothers" tweets and hate directed towards Jimin was insane. Its just a god damn photo. It's adorable, appreciate it or don't, but keep your toxicity to yourself.

All the comments about Jungkook being forced to pose like this or forced to interact with Jimin are straight bullshit. And I can't believe that is even a thing anyone has to say at this point. I'm fully aware basically all the hate came from TKKs. Which baffles me because there were a ton of adorable Taekook moments recently. Obsess over those? Is it because this singular moment was more intimate and telling than any other moment TK had that showcased their friendship? Take your jealousy and shove it.

Look! Taekook are cute as hell together! Can you just enjoy them without spewing toxic bullshit just because you see Jimin as some kind of threat to your ship? And no. Jungkook is not being forced into anything. Anyone who says that he is, doesn't actually know their idol AT ALL. Jungkook, Tae and Jin are the kings of "I do whatever I want... I don't listen to the company." Those 3 give off the biggest "wtf are they gonna do, fire me?" vibes. Yet people are still out here thinking they are forced into interactions they don't want or forced to stay away from each other?

Jungkook forced to interact intimately with someone he doesn't want to be with? This is the same man who was told he shouldn't get tattoos because its not okay for an idol, who now has a full sleeve and spent the live today showing them off in short sleeves. This is the same man who dyed his hair himself in the bathroom after the company told him not to. This is the same man who pushes the members off him whenever he needs space. This is the same man who has declined "fanservice" when not in the mood. This is the same man who stared down a bunch of fans and said "I am not your Oppa" even though RM was telling him its fine and to let it go for the fans. He does not do anything he doesn't want to do. This is the man whose slogan is "rather be dead than cool." Who doesn't want to live unless he is living with passion. He is a rebel soul at heart. And he is a grown ass man who can take care of himself. If he is hugging someone, its because he wants to hug them. So step off his ass and let him live. Damn.

And Tae? You think he is going to stay away from someone he supposedly loves just because the company said to? Tae? The same man who got on livestream on his birthday to inform the fans that the company banned him from saying anything about his mixtape... and then proceeded to say "But I don't listen to the company" and giggle his butt off while sending snarky looks to the staff as he played 3 to 5 second clips of his mixtape songs on live stream. The same man who also dyed his hair himself after the company said no. The one who said No, I won't flash my abs anymore, im not comfortable with it and had RM talk to the company to get their choreography changed along with the other members. The one who has no problem telling fans they have no chance with him in WeVerse replies (not very good fanservice there for a typical idol). Tae, who wrote a Christmas love song and wanted to have it be a duet with Jimin and had the company tell him that 2 guys couldn't sing the song and he had to record it with a female Vocalist and release it that way. And Tae responded by refusing to release the song, he wanted it to be Jimin, if he couldn't have Jimin, he wouldn't do the song.

Do either of these men sound like pushovers and doormats like people are making them out to be? Jin has a reputation in the fandom as the rebel. JinHit is a running joke. Everyone is willing to recognize it. But for some reason, that same energy is ignored in Taekook. Their shippers are willingly blind to it. If their shippers had to admit that Taekook had free will, it would dismantle their entire tragic star crossed lovers canon divergent fanfiction as exactly what it is... fiction.

Jimin is NOT the problem here. If Kookie didn't want to be in an embrace with him, he wouldn't be. THEY BOTH chose to pose like this and they all chose to post it. And I, for one, absolutely love it. BTS are all grown men who can make their own choices and don't need their so called fans victimizing them for things that aren't even a problem. Also, Tae and JK are both so endeared by and love Jimin so much, they would be appalled by the things people say about him in relation to their "ship" so everyone should just leave them all alone!

Ship whoever you want, but put respect on all 7 members. If you can't, then keep your mouth closed. Good lord.

Anyway, Jikook are SO loud lately and nothing you say will change how close they are. Jikook boyfriends, Jikook in love. Stay Pressed and Stream Butter.
