regarding the genocide song contest:
various past eurovision contestants are campaigning for the removal of israel and some national finalists are now choosing to boycott. olly alexander, who will rep the uk, condemned the palestinian genocide and was subsequently attacked by israeli media (in a blatant rule violation the ebu did nothing about)
slovenian broadcaster rtvslo is purportedly trying to negotiate the removal of israel
1000 artists from host country sweden are preparing to send an open letter to the ebu to ban israel; the swedish left wing has also called for israel to be removed immediately
iceland is officially threatening to boycott eurovision pending the removal of israel
word on the street is that if iceland does compete, it will send palestinian artist bashar murad who is openly anti-israel and has collabed with previous icelandic reps hatari, aka the guys who did this back in 2019
iceland is now leading in the odds whereas israel has been steadily dropping, suggesting that the bookies are aware israel is becoming increasingly unpopular
lastly, in a move so ridiculous i'm beginning to suspect eurovision is a figment of our collective imagination, israel is seemingly gearing up to enter eden golan, a moscow-based russian singer. while russia is still banned for terrorism.
if you're european: please contact your participating broadcaster and demand for the removal of israel, or try to contact your nation's selected artist to put pressure on the broadcaster. if you're swedish, please try contacting svt or authorities with security concerns regarding the inclusion of israel. if israel does enter eden golan, complain about her selection and ties to russia. and absolutely DO NOT vote on, watch or promote this show if israel does end up competing.
Hi everyone. I know the original op made their post unrebloggable for their safety, so please reblog this post instead with their VETTED gfm link.
Although Mohammed Bhar has been martyred... please help his family evacuate Ghazzah to safety. Mohammed's younger brother, Ibrahim, also has Down syndrome. They are so close to their goal!! Please share!!!
It was actually vetted by BBC (yes I know we don't like BBC) and they've also done a few pieces about him and his family in 2021, after Israel bombed Gaza for 11 days straight.
Edit: I am adding OP's commentary addressing ableism onto this post under a cut in addition to it already being in a reblog. Hopefully people can circulate this edit as well (thank you for reblogging this post).
The original post by original poster under the cut, on addressing ableism etc:
OP's URL has been removed from this post, but their post is reuploaded by me in case OP is deactivated, and also because they have addressed the ableism from the original Tweets and are much more eloquent than I am at wording it.

Sometimes I just stop and think about how weird it is that Stop!! Hibari-kun! even exists. A romantic comedy where one of the leads is a trans girl would be notable even today, but this show aired in 1983, and the manga it was based on began in 1981. Stop!! Hibari-kun! is almost forty years old, and yet Iād argue that in certain ways it still hasnāt been surpassed. There have been shows that handled their trans characters better, and there have been other shows with trans protagonists (although, frankly, not very many). But Hibari herself is an utterly unique creation, and I honestly canāt think of any trans protagonist in the intervening years who could match her in brilliance and sheer badassery.
It makes for some bizarre juxtapositions because in every other sense the show is a product of the 80s, whether stylistically, in its pop culture references, or the occasional jarring racial stereotypes. Thereās a fair amount of transphobia and homophobia too, which might seem at odds with what Iāve described so far, but part of Hibariās strength is that thrives in spite of the adversity she faces.
Hibari is the daughter of a yakuza boss and is ā on paper, at least ā his only son and heir. The story is told mostly from the perspective of Kousaku, a boy sent to live with the family after his mother dies, and who immediately falls for Hibari but then feels conflicted upon learning that sheās trans. Make no mistake, though: Hibari is the star of the show here. Sheās strong, smart and beautiful, and at school (where sheās presumed by everyone to be a cis girl), sheās a popular grade-A student with throngs of lovestruck boys ā and at least one girl ā falling at her feet. In another show this might come across as insincere; a low-key transphobic joke along the lines of āthe most popular girl is actually a boy!ā But with Hibari it doesnāt feel like that. The showās presentation of her victories feels genuine and celebratory.
The grace with which Hibari navigates her life extends to her encounters with transphobia, too. Most of her family disapproves of her, and Kousakuās ongoing inability to deal with Hibariās transness often comes off as pretty hurtful. But Hibari seems unfazed by her fatherās ranting and enjoys teasing Kousaku over his plainly obvious attraction to her. Thatās not to say there arenāt brief moments where Hibari expresses frustration over her situation, but the narrative never lets her stay sad for long.
And I think itās Hibariās nigh-invulnerability ā both physically and psychologically ā that makes her work as a character, especially from the perspective of the trans women in the audience. In the hands of a lesser creator, Hibari could have been a figure of ridicule, but remarkably she is never a punchline, while those who mock her or try to hurt her inevitably end up as the butt of the joke. Crystal Frasier, who knows a thing or two about compelling trans protagonists, describes the show as a ātransgender power fantasyā, and I think the recent resurgence of interest in Hibari has come at a time when trans women are seeking out stories where we get to be victorious.
This does return us to the question of exactly how this transgender power fantasy came to be, back in the early 80s, and at the hands of a cis creator, no less. And thatās⦠well, thatās a little complicated. Iāll simply say that Hibariās creator, Hisashi Eguchi, has stated in interviews that āIt is really the frustration of not being born as a girl which fuels my drawingsā and leave it at that. Regardless, Eguchi has given trans audiences an icon. In a world of trans stories that focus on pain and misery, here is a protagonist who approaches her transness with joy, optimism and strength. As Hibari herself would say: āJust think of it as Godās prank.ā
ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you're helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can't. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can't, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help
He's a cis man. He's transfem. He's nonbinary. He has 35 genders. He's a cis woman. He's a trans man. Gender, he barely knows her. He's transmasc. He's gnc. He doesn't know what a pronoun is. I didn't say his name but he popped into your head didn't he
