Journalists in Gaza are in a uniquely dangerous situation, as they are repeatedly targeted. In fact, over 75% of all journalists killed in the past year have died in Gaza. Siraj Abudeyah (@siraj2024), a journalist himself, perseveres and makes sure to type a daily report on Tumblr for us to share, despite the threats to his life, and zionists harassing him regularly. 

If you are familiar with my blog, then you know about Siraj, who has been displaced seven times in total with his family. Before his house was destroyed by the occupation, it took him ten years to build it, and it left him in debt. Before his livelihood was destroyed by the occupation, he said he wanted to pursue a PhD, worked as a sports coach before, and he loved to swim.

The occupation took his home away and now him and his family are forced to live in tents he has described as “living in a convection oven.”

This also brings about other dangers, such as famine. The price of basic foods such as flour has skyrocketed. There is very little drinkable water, which is compromised even further by the re-introduction of polio into Gazan water; an epidemic has been declared. Siraj’s three young children are under high risk of contracting the disease. 

He, like many Gazans, wants to rebuild his life right here in Gaza. His one dream is to rebuild the home that was taken from him. This is no less important than the wishes of those who wish to evacuate to a safe place and restart their lives there, so please don’t treat it that way. 

While the end goal of his fundraiser is 82,000 CAD, his short-term goal (which needs to be achieved by tomorrow, 02/08/2024) is 20,000 CAD, out of which 18,176 CAD have been raised.

He needs to raise 1,824 CAD by tomorrow to ensure the safety of his family. Please do not fail them.

i can't stop thinking about the lack of shade in gaza. with so many trees and buildings destroyed, there can't be very much shade. it's incredibly hot and there's very little protection from the sun and very little water. my weather app tells me the UV index reached 11 recently. it's inhumane to force people to live in such conditions.

amal is a 26 year old mother from gaza. she is an incredibly dedicated and loving mother to her year old daughter, maryam. before the war, she was studying to receive her masters degree in french language. on her instagram (@/amal_sufian97_) she shared beautiful photos of her life and family in the years before the war.

now amal, her husband, and maryam have been displaced several times and have nowhere to turn to. amal wishes to finish her degree, and both she and her husband want nothing more than a better life for their young daughter. every time i receive a message from amal, my heart is full knowing she is still alive, but it breaks for her suffering. i implore you, please donate any amount you're able to help amal and her family escape gaza. they deserve nothing less than safety, warmth, love, laughter, security, and life. as of july 6th, €1,025 / €30,000 has been raised. her campaign is also included on el-shab-hussein and nabulsi's spreadsheet of verified fundraiser (#175). if you're unable to donate, please share. i want nothing more than to give amal hope that she can provide a better life for her daughter.
