this took me over the span of 2 weeks the sketch, color and lineart was all done with my old tablet and everything else was my new one so this is technically the last piece i made with my old crusty tablet

The canon timeline is wonky anyway. like theres a flashback scene with a poodle skit... in the 1970s. If the stan twins are 65 in 2012 then being born in 1948 makes perfect sense. Reality can be what you want!

I've got an idea for a new au! How about in the Reverse Portal au, Stan comes out feral. And the first thing he does when he comes back through is cling to Ford and never wants to leave his side. Could you do a prompt of when he came through the portal and him saving Ford from a dangerous creature in GF, hugs insured?

(I assumed this was a prompt so I just wrote a quick little thing, but feel free to add more if anyone wants to! Just tag me so I can find it cause oh man I want more of this AU, but I’ve already got so much going on)

“Stanley…?” Ford was hesitant to speak to his brother, knowing just how unpredictable and wild he was now. Thirty years lost in other dimensions had turned him into a terrified wild animal. Stan had spent the last few days locked in the spare room downstairs, only coming out for something to eat or to use the bathroom. Ford had tried to get him to take a shower at one point but quickly gave up after his brother snarled at him while Ford tried to remove his filthy coat.

Stan jumped a little and whirled around to lash out until he realised it was just his brother behind him and that Ford was standing well out of reach. “What?” He replied a little too harshly, his hands curled into fists.

“I, er, I was j-just making the lunch. Do you want anything in particular?”

“What is there?”

“Er…w-well… anything you like, really.” Ford scratched the back of his neck. “There’s like half a pizza left from the other night, or I can cook you something fresh, or I can make you sandwiches.”Stan seemed to relax only a little, keeping one hand balled into a tight fist at his side. “Pizza sounds good.”

“Alright,” Ford nodded. “You, er, you want to eat here or in the kitchen?”Stan glanced around, his eyes darting about as if chasing a fast-moving insect. “In here.”“Okay,” Ford said softly. “I’ll be back in a little while when the pizza’s warmed up, okay?” Without waiting for a response, he quickly retreated out of his brother’s space and shut the door quietly, heading back into the kitchen. “Grunkle Ford?” Dipper asked quietly, sitting at the table and reading through Ford’s second journal again. “Is Great Uncle Stanley okay?”Ford sighed, running a hand through his hair before sitting at the table beside his nephew. “I don’t know, Dipper. He’s acting very agitated and won’t let me get anywhere near him.”“He almost hit Mabel earlier,” Dipper said quietly, setting the journal down. “She went to bring him a sweater she’d made him, and he almost punched her in the face. She ran out and shut the door. She was crying.”Ford sighed, putting an elbow on the table and propping his chin up in his hand. “He’s … look, he was never like this when we were kids. Something must have happened to him between him getting lost in the portal and him coming back. I suppose the ten years prior to him arriving here would have had an effect on him as well, but he wasn’t as bad as he is now.”

“He’ll be okay, though, right?”“With some care and some reconditioning, he should be alright, yes,” Ford nodded. “I just don’t know how long that’s going to take. Until then, we just have to be careful not to spook him.”Dipper nodded, before reaching over and giving one of Ford’s hands a tight squeeze. “He’ll be okay, Grunkle Ford, I promise.”Ford smiled a little, squeezing Dipper’s hand in return and lifting the boy’s hat off to ruffle his hair lightly. “I know, kiddo. Thanks.”Dipper grinned and giggled a little at the affectionate gesture, adjusting his cap after Ford replaced it. Ford grinned and went to put the remaining half of the pizza into the oven to heat up. Mabel entered the room once the smell of the pizza had reached the twins’ bedroom. “Mmmm, are we finishing the pizza already? I want some!”Ford chuckled and rolled his eyes. “I’m afraid not, pumpkin. It’s for Stan. He hasn’t eaten all day and honestly, by the look of him, he needs to eat.”“You said Grunkle Stan used to be fat.” Mabel giggled as she sat on the table near her brother.

“He certainly was when we were teenagers,” Ford sighed softly. “But I reckon that ten years of being on the run and thirty years of going through whatever he did when he was knocked into the portal has definitely made him lose that weight.” He sighed again and glanced away. It was his fault his brother was this way. He’d knocked Stan into the portal and it was his fault that his brother was so skittish. There was nobody to blame but himself for Stan’s condition, and Ford knew it.

“Grunkle Ford?” Mabel frowned.

“Sorry, dear,” Ford shook his head and forced a smile back onto his face, though both kids could see that it was empty and strained. “I’m just worried, that’s all.”“So are we,” Dipper said softly. “But we’re gonna help him, right?”“Of course we are,” Ford nodded with a smile as he got the pizza from the oven and checked to see if it was hot enough. Satisfied with the temperature, he cut it into slices and loaded it onto a plate before taking it to his brother.

He knocked on the door as softly as he could. “Stanley?”The door swung open abruptly, revealing his brother staring at him with a defensive expression. Ford swallowed thickly and handed Stan the plate. “Pizza’s done.”“Oh, thanks, Stanford,” Stan replied raptly as he took the plate from his brother’s hands and retreated back into his room, shutting the door in Ford’s face. Ford let out a sigh and pressed his back against the wall by his brother’s door, before sinking to the floor. He ran a hand through his hair. Stan was acting like a nervous wild animal and honestly, Ford was scared. Not necessarily scared of Stan, per se, but more scared that his brother might not recover. That Stan would be stuck like this for years and years until one day his nervousness and feral tendencies led to his death.

Ford pulled his knees to his chest and rested his head on them as he listened to the sounds of his brother eating. Stan was wolfing the food down ravenously as if, if he left alone for longer than a few minutes, it would vanish and he wouldn’t be fed again. It was heartbreaking to listen to. Ford took a deep breath and made a resolution to himself to help his brother with this. He was going to help Stan get through this if it was the last thing he did. It was the only way he’d ever be able to make up for what he did to his brother in the first place. It was his fault that Stan was like this and it was his responsibility to put it right.

When I was around six/seven months old, I said my first word, which was "Hello". My mother had phone calls with people frequently since it was her entire job, and I was holding my hand up to my head and pretending to be on the phone.

upd. I hope you don’t think Ford is saying this because of some ‘greater good’ stuff. He just doesn’t want Stan to get hurt even more. Ford is scared for his brother’s life, Stan is vulnerable now and Bill can try to get to him. Or hurt him somehow with Ford’s hands.

Now I'm curious, why did you have the twins born in 1948 instead of going with canon and having them born in 1951?

Mostly because when I made the AU I had a difficult time finding the correct timelines and whatnot and went screw this and made my own, I still have a difficult time finding the correct timeline, if anyone has any resources that could help with the Gravity Falls timeline it would be a lifesaver, thanks for asking :3

With your post on Stan and Soos' relationship, i think the quote about why Soos cares about Stan matters a lot. Because it's easy to assume that Soos is just being naive and doesn't understand all of stan's flaws that make him so unbearable to a lot of people, but the whole 'Stan's heart is in the right place and Soos only sees someone's heart' adds so much to their dynamic. It's not ignorance to how he is- it's looking deep and seeing who he truly is.

there's a bit i didn't put in the post cos it's a second hand description of what was apparently said at a panel (and also i ran out of image space lol):

soos understanding him despite all the walls stan puts up is such an important aspect to their relationship!!! it's such a shame it was only said outside the show and we didn't get much on stan+soos' bond post nwhs in an ep...

it's also really heartbreaking that soos gets proven right by seeing amnesiac stan who's so sweet at his core but its during the worst of circumstances and soos is completely devastated....

noticed a pretty funny small detail in the show & lost legends comics

apparently the Stan twins’ bunk bed used to be next to a window. After they were grounded by Filbrick, their bed was moved to the wall just as like show… Which implies Filbrick found out how they snuck out and their bed moved there. Makes sense, they weren’t exactly subtle on hiding evidence lol

Really shows how serious business that man was, yeesh- rlly brings the funny image of his shocked face before begrudgingly moving the twins bunk bed while they were gone having their own adventure

Speaking of Caryn and Filbrick, the fact that Ford has a lot of childhood mementos takes on a more tragic light when viewed in the context that Ford has not spoken to his parents since he was 18.

If you're reading this and you're a teenager who hasn't moved out yet, allow me to explain: parents hold onto that shit. I am 29, and I have a few childhood photos but my baby pictures, home videos, art projects, all that shit is at my parent's house. That's the kind of thing you get in bits as you get older. As your parents need to reminisce less and as their desire to clear up storage space grows. Filbrick probably hadn't worn that suit and fez in years when he gave it to Ford, assuming he was the one giving it away and Ford didn't just take it. But usually parents, especially right when their kids move out, go through a period of empty nest syndrome where they largely spend their free time sulking and looking at baby pictures and calling their kids every day.

Ford had enough childhood memorabilia to literally reconstruct Stan's memory from scratch.

And I can't figure out which is worse, Ford taking all of it when he left for college because he knew he wasn't going to be able to come back and get any of it, or Filbrick and Caryn making him take all of it.

SNEAK PEEK FOR CHAPTER 8 OF WHAT IF FORD KICKED STAN OUT IMMEDIATELY! I have some other doodles I'm gonna put up, but this one made my heart break so I wanted to have it here. Will put up other doodles later. Sorry I haven't posted in a bit, I was studying hard for an anatomy test and then a chemistry test and it was all miserable.

But now they're finished, and Ima just take a minute to recover and then hopefully y'all will get some good new content! Including this, and the last chapter of Old Habits Die Hard and the first chapter of Old Habits.5 which people have opted for, and then after that (hopefully) short fic (I haven't written it yet) and after this and a few other what-ifs have been put up, I'll start posting my sea-grunks fic which is definitely my biggest plan to date because I want to incorperate lots of emotional plot.

There won't really be a normal like plot plot it's mostly just emotions and emotional bonding between stan and ford. And it's not going to be a normal plot with rising action and a climax either, its mostly just problems they face with the resolutions along the way and then having a good conclusion where they reunite with the kids and all is well.

It's going to be a happier fic with smaller angst plots that get resolved (but not too quickly) and a lot of comfort amidst seafaring adventures and random foes (much like the first season of GF, random adventures, but this time with an emotional plot!)Don't get me wrong the angst will angst a LOT. but at the end of the day, they'll be happy.

And that's what I really want to write.

i have a large high fantasy project in the works and a (planned to be) fantasy short story, too. the details are a bit tentative rn, and honestly? they will most probably go unshared for the most part.

you can see that the script originally had ford building an anti-gravity machine for the science fair (which i guess acts as foreshadowing to the portal?), but the sun lightbulb feels like it would've connected to the opening of stanchurian candidate....
