I don't know if this is a controversial thought, but. I often think about how the SDR2 cast has... unlikable traits. Such as being a bully, or being a coward, or being a crybaby - and how a lot of lets players, they dislike them on the basis of these traits, and can even refuse to see their status of "victimhood" as real and valid because they find them unlikable.

And I just... I think the fact that they are "annoying" is the point.

The message, in my opinion, is that even if a victim shows undesirable traits as a response to their trauma, they are still a victim worthy of sympathy and help. And I think them being "unlikable" is something of the point - people brush off their issues as something "annoying", and because of that, they never get help. That's how society fails victims, fails to help them: they view them as the problem.

Even if it's a response to trauma, it's a crime to be cringe. The world will break you and then get mad at you for being broken. Just look at SDR2's characters - it's their story over and over again.

Mikan Tsumiki, for example, is constantly called annoying by people who hate her, before she even murders anyone in chapter 3. The reasons are simple: they don't like her stutter, they don't like her people pleasing, they don't like her crying. All of these are responses to her trauma. They don't like her, dismiss her, because she's traumatized in a way that isn't "perfect," isn't "pretty." And I'm sure this is intentional- Mikan is intentionally what one would call "annoying" because the point of her character is to illustrate how people ignore people in need, and how those vulnable people can be taken advantage of and recruited into a cult. No one helped Mikan Tsumiki—not in the way she needed. Even the less malicious people, they brush off her quirks as her "just being Mikan," instead of resulting from her trauma. She isn't quiet in her cries for forgiveness - and that makes her hateable to some people.

Mikan was always mentally unstable - that was obvious if you just talked to her. If you spent enough free time events with her, it was downright predictable that she'd be a murderer. And yet, when she does murder, none of the characters saw it coming - because none of them (except Hajime if he did her FTEs) really got to know her. None of them put effort into knowing her. When she was meek, her flaws were, while annoying, unintrusive. But now that she's mad, now that she's angry about the way she was treated - she's crazy. Thats what they say: she's crazy. They disregard the factors that led up to this, and act like it came from nowhere - but these types of things never come from nowhere. Breakdowns build up overtime, a death of a thousand cuts, and when you finally snap, you finally breakdown, the world will look at you like you're crazy and say: it was just a paper cut. Ignoring how you have thousands of other paper cuts on your body.

Everyone always, always have reasons. You may not see them, you may not understand them, but there is always an answer to "why?"

Mikan isn't the only character that illustrates this message- characters like Kazuichi, or Hiyoko, also do so.

People don't like Kazuichi for a number of reasons, ranging from very valid to not so much. One complaint I've seen is that he's a crybaby and a coward, that he's always whining.

And this is true - he is something of a coward, terrified of being betrayed. But if you, again, take the time to get to know him and understand his reasoning behind this, it's clear that these fears are a result of his trauma. He comes from an abusive house, and he's been betrayed by friends before - he has plenty of reason to be scared of it happening again. He doesn't fear being betrayed, not really, but the pain of being thrown out. Even his harassment of Sonia is an extention of his trauma - an unhealthy coping mechanism, a fixation on someone too polite to throw him away...

And even Sonia is apart of this message (to a lesser extent). Everyone ignores Kazuichi's harassment of her because they think it's "harmless" - which is a disservice to both of them. It's not fair to Sonia to expect her to deal with Kazuichi, and I understand why people would dislike Kazuichi from his treatment of Sonia - it's really not fun to be in Sonia's position, especially when no one else sees anything wrong with the situation because Kazuichi is "harmless." Even if Kazuichi doesn't mean to hurt Sonia, he is - and everyone is just ignoring it. Because that's a big theme in SDR2, isn't it? These kids were vulnerable to Junko because everyone ignored their issues. Even each other.

Hiyoko, too, illustrates this perfectly - I'd argue that every character in the game illustrates this to some degree, but I feel like it would be excessive to talk about all of them. Hiyoko's bullying is ignored - dismissed as a "quirk," and it's not fair to either her or the people she targets. It's not a quirk - it's a response to her trauma, and she needs help! She needs to be stopped. Because she's hurting herself and she's hurting others, and brushing it off, dismissing it as harmless teasing... it just creates even more hurt all around.

Or, like, take Akane - no one even addresses the many concerning comments she makes during the game, and when you play her free time events, it can really catch you off guard how fucking awful her life has been. But no one even thinks to ask her about her troubles most times - because she's "strong". Because she's "stupid." How can she be anything but a blissful meat headed idiot? There's just - this assumption of lack of depth. That so many of the characters regard each other with - that so many let's players regard the cast with. They see their annoying traits, unlikable traits, and don't even think to wonder "where is this coming from?"

And it fucking - boggles my mind! It illustrates exactly what this game is warning about - this level of apathy, this lack of concern, this assumption of lack of depth, this lack of curiosity and care for your fellow human beings. And like - yeah, these are characters, but I think the way you approach characters can be very telling for how you approach people, too. Everyone has reasons for why they're like this - people are a domino train of complex reasoning, and... I don't know. It just - when you dismiss a SDR2 character as "annoying", I think you're doing almost exactly what the game is warning against. The SDR2 cast were vulnerable to Junko Enoshima because people didn't care. People didn't help them, or didn't even realize they needed help. And I think how you treat these fictional abuse victims... can be very, very telling on how you think of real abuse victims.

Ask yourself - does someone need to be the "perfect" abuse victim for you to sympathize with them? Do they have to be likable to you to be worthy of your kindness, to be worthy of help? Do you think that?

I don't want to say you have to like the SDR2 cast, of course - but trying to understand and sympathize with where they're coming from... I think that's important. And I think it's important to exercise that skill in real life, too.

Howdy hey~ can you write Akane with an affectionate boyfriend who's a bit insecure so he's a clingy towards her so she returns the affectionate tenfold and makes clear that she's not leaving them and that she loves him. Maybe add that she initially thought that he was doing it cause he was like most people and was just interested in her body till she realized the reason via a classmate tells her or she overhears her boyfriend talking down about himself and thinking she's to good for him.

She thought your clinginess was kind of weird at first

No one had touched her like that since the creepy old guys who groped her, so she assumed you were the same way

But when you hugged her, you didn't put your hands anywhere near those areas

So Akane was confused when you didn't greet her with a hug the next day

But this time, you awkwardly smiled and said hi, with your hands stiffly kept to your sides

She tried to brush it off and gave you a wide grin and wrapped an arm around you

Maybe if she initiated it, it would help

But even though you melted into it at first, you pulled away quickly and insisted that you should head to class

Now she was even more confused

You never rejected a hug like that before

Once again, she brushed it off and figured that you had a rough morning, but would be feeling better by lunchtime

But you were standoffish towards her for the rest of the day

You didn't initiate any kind of affection, and rejected any of her efforts to initiate it

Now she knew something was wrong

While she was sparring with Nekomaru, as she often did, she vented about it

"Akane, you seem distracted. Is something the matter?"

"Eh, it's nothing, coach. It's just that... My boyfriend's been acting weird all day. He's normally all sweet and cuddly with me, but today, he wouldn't even hold my hand."

Nekomaru hummed thoughtfully, dodging another one of her punches.

"Maybe he's worried that it's annoying you."

Akane stopped what she was doing, her eyes widened in shock. 

"Huh? Why would he think that?"

Nekomaru shrugged, and moved his foot to sweep Akane onto the ground.

"It's just a guess. Have you rejected any of his affections recently?"

"Well yeah, sometimes I need a little break from it, but I tell him he can hug me again soon after. I'm not gonna make him stop doing it altogether."

Nekomaru hummed again, moving his fist to land another punch. Akane dodged the blow and paused.

"Wait... He doesn't think I hate his affection just because of that, does he?"

"In case you haven't noticed, Akane, (Name) doesn't have a very high opinion of himself. He doesn't think he's good enough for you. He's worried that if he's too clingy, you're gonna get sick of him and leave."

Akane froze.

How could she have not realized it sooner?

Her sudden pause allowed Nekomaru to sweep her off her feet, and she snapped back to her thoughts.

"Training is over for the day. You might wanna head back and have a word with (Name)."

Akane staggered onto her feet, rubbing the back of her head.

"Yeah, you're right. Thanks, coach Nekomaru."

With that, she started booking it back to the dorms.

You were on the bed, reading a book, when the door suddenly burst open

"Yo! (Name)!"

You jumped and the book went flying

"Akane! Why are you here?"

"I realized why you've been acting so weird! (Name), not only are you the sweetest, smartest guy I've ever met, but you're one of the few people who wanted me for me, not my body. I love you, ya doofus! And I'm not gonna leave you just because you're a little clingy."

You looked away from her

"Well... It's not just that."

Akane sat next to you on the bed and looked at you with concern

"Then what is it, squirt?"

Her voice was softer than you've ever heard

You told her everything you were insecure about, and she knocked them right out

Then, she wrapped her arms around you and hugged you

You missed this terribly, and so did she

After that, Akane will match every bit of your affection tenfold

She'll be as clingy as you want

Even in public, she doesn't care!

If she needs a break from the affection, she'll break it to you gently while assuring you that she doesn't dislike the affection

And she'll tell you over and over again that you're perfect for her and that she's never leaving you

Probably OOC, but I find the idea of a comically overprotective Keisuke kinda funny.

Platonic Warriors of Hope x Ultimate Dragon Reader Part Three

After doing some digging, you found out the names of the horrible teenage demons that hurt your precious dragon cubs.

Komaru Naegi and Toko Fukawa.

A talentless manga fanatic and a desperate author.

Fantastic.

It wouldn't be hard to find them; the Warriors of Hope were on a murder playdate, so you were on your own. So with your wings, you lifted your body into the stormy sky and flew around, scanning the area for two teenage demons.

And after only a short minute or two, you found them.

You summoned a fireball to your claws and launched it at the ground near them.

When the ball of fire hit the ground, the two girls let out a shriek.

"Wh-What the hell was that?!" The taller one called out.

"U-Uhm... Toko, look..." The younger one gestured toward the sky with a shaky finger. 

There you were, in all your glory.

You let out a deep snarl.

"Komaru Naegi, and Toko Fukawa," you stated, pointing at the two girls respectively. 

"Who the hell are you?" Toko demanded, pointing at you.

"My name is no business of yours. But I am the Ultimate Dragon," you said, blowing a long line of flames out of your mouth. The girls immediately moved to the side to avoid the flamethrower.

"Wh-What the hell k-kinda talent is that?!" Toko demanded, while Komaru just eyed you curiously.

"Silence, smelly author! I can smell your revolting stench from up here. Have you even heard the word 'shower' in your life?" You snarled. Now the girl was seething with anger.

The younger one, on the other hand, was fascinated.

"Woah! How do you summon fire like that? Can you change into an actual dragon? Did you go to Hope's Peak? Are there others like you? What kind of dragon are you?"

Toko facepalmed. "Jesus Christ, K-Komaru... D-Do you ever h-have a f-f-filter?"

You ignored her questions. "Doesn't matter. Point is, I suggest you two start running."

As you spoke, you coated your clawed hands in flames, staring down at the two girls in fury. They quickly got the hint and immediately turned and started running. 

Preparing yourself, you took flight once again, and chased after them from the sky, firing balls of flames from your hands.

"I'm gonna burn you both alive like the pathetic insects you are! Nobody harms my cubs and gets away with it!"

You screamed, shooting down another ball of fire.

"What are they talking about?! What cubs? And I still don't know how they can change into a dragon!" Komaru cried, with tears in her eyes.

"D-Does it matter?! They're p-probably t-talking about those b-brats we k-keep running into!" Toko responded.

You launched another flame at the older girl, which ended up hitting the ends of her long hair.

"SHUT UP, INSOLENT FILTH! HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT MY CUBS LIKE THAT?! YOU'RE GONNA PAY FOR REAL NOW!"

While you were rampaging, the Warriors of Hope had just gotten back from their playdate, and were standing from afar, watching the show.
