- Zaunites dying to help Piltover in battle while wearing enforcer uniforms, even though Piltover did nothing to earn it
- Silco, one of the few pro-Zaun/anti-Piltover characters from season 1, reduced into a mouthpiece for "forgiving those who wronged you" and letting go
- Jinx, one of the few anti-Piltover characters, becoming redeemed by sympathizing with Piltovians, being apologetic for killing Councilors, and feeling like she should die to allow her sister to be happy with her enforcer girlfriend
- Vi not having any problem with her Piltovian enforcer girlfriend gassing Zaun, and reduced to kneeling for Caitlyn's pussy in a prison cell, where she was locked for years as a child by an enforcer
- Jayce telling Viktor that his disease was never a weakness to be cured even though the disease was caused by Piltover polluting Zaun
- Ekko never calling out Heimerdinger's failings as a ruler nor Vi for joining the enforcers (even though he does in the game), and also risking all the Firelights' lives to help Piltover
- Sevika not having any lines in Act 3, never interacting with Jinx or reacting to Isha's death, and also risking her life to help Piltover, a decision which was made off screen
Decorating their office, Edwin instructing the exact angle that the fairy lights should be in to Crystal and Niko, Charles smiling because his wife is a bitch and he loves that. Christmas crackers are pulled, releasing confetti, which Edwin is appalled by at first. But the atmosphere of gentle snow falling on London lamp lights outside, and the twinkling of fairy lights and laughter as Crystal tries (and fails) to describe the texture of minced pies to Charles just make Edwin feel... At home. Not at home with his parents, whose Christmas atmosphere was dull and full of stiffly dressed relatives arranged in uniform lines, but content. He sighed, and letting himself be happy in the moment, took out his cracker crown and placed it on Charles' head.
no because I usually don't really like Christmas specials (or any holiday specials really) in shows but the thought of a dead boy detectives Christmas episode is soooo aaaa. like Edwin and Charles having spent 30 Christmas together, maybe setting up a tree in their office or going outside to see if they can still make snow angels even if they can't feel the cold on their skin. idk its just so sweet to me and really speaks to how long they've known each other and how they are (with Crystal and Niko this time around) a little family. plus cool Christmas ghosts or snowflake sprites or anything!
i know everyone is freaking out over the kiss but
Soulmate au where the universe fucked up and accidentally put Edwin and Charles in separate time periods. It's like, "Fuck, they'll meet each other too late, if at all." But then Edwin dies, and the universe is like "Oh cool, so he can get reincarnated in the correct time period to meet Charles." Until it finds out he's stuck in Hell and it's like D: But then he escapes. And he makes it back to his old school. And he bumps into Charles. As a ghost.
And the universe is like "Okay, well this isn't ideal, but they did finally meet. Edwin can function as Charles' guardian angel." And then Charles dies.
And at this point, the universe thinks nothing can surprise it anymore until Edwin comes in with the lantern and gently reads to him as he dies. And one final time, the universe makes the incorrect prediction of Charles and Edwin choosing to step into the afterlife so they can get reincarnated and get to be proper soulmates in their next life. But they both decide to stay ghosts. So after the initial shock it's like "You know what? Good for you. Glad you got to be soulmates in this life like you were supposed to be."
And sure, neither of them seems to realize they were supposed to end up together romantically rather than platonically. But they just seem so happy together, either way, what's the point in trying to force it. They'll figure it out eventually. By the time Edwin realizes he's in love with Charles in Port Townsend, the universe is throwing its metaphorical hands up and whooping with glee.
really butters my toast đ
ugh! that really grills my cheese. i mean, that just really presses my panini, you know?
bisexual behavior
thing came up in my mind so i have to write it:
charles snapped back to reality when he saw crystalâs manicured fingers waving in front of his face. âcharles? what are youâŚâ she began, turning around to follow his line of sight which extended just past her ear.
âah,â she said, quirking an eyebrow when her eyes fell on edwin, nose deep in notes for the case he was working on, his eyes flitting back and forth on the parchment in front of him with fervor as thin, wire-rimmed glasses sat atop his nose.
âhm,â charles mumbled noncommittally, now leaning on his palm while he stared intently at the fluidity of the fingers that traced the lettering on the page.
âalright, spit it out,â crystal said, an amused roll of her eyes following the words.
âitâs just- itâs so fun to watch him when he gets like this. all caught up in his work. heâs so smart and good at everything. so⌠mm.â
âcharles?â
âhm?â he asked, still not tearing his eyes away.
âhave you ever heard of a competency kink?â she asked, trying to suppress a laugh.
âwh- a kink??? why are we talking about that???â he asked frantically, his eyes finally ripped away from the other man as a vibrant flush colored his cheeks, but his temporary lapse in attention didnât last long as he caught edwin rolling his sleeves up and brushing his hair out of his eyes through his peripheral vision. charlesâ own eyes fluttered as he muttered under his breath. âchrist.â
crystal snapped in front of his face.
âpay attention, charles. a competency kink. itâs when youâre really attracted to when someoneâs good at something.â
âyeah, sounds interesting,â he muttered, moving around her hand to keep his eyes fixed to where the end of edwinâs ballpoint pen was pinned between his teeth as he analyzed something on the page. charles made a weak noise when he saw it, his hand coming up to gently brush his bottom lip like he was imagining that it took the penâs place in between those sharp teeth.
âcharles, for fuckâs sake, i think you have one,â she says, the laugh finally erupting at the absurdity of his steely focus.
âwhat? no. isnât that like⌠normal? itâs nice when someoneâs good at something,â charles defended, a bit flushed.
âyeah, well, no one looks at someone like that unless they want to bone them while they talk about like- quantum physics or like literature or some shit,â she said plainly, the amused grin still prevalent.
charles made a noise like he had just been punched in the chest at the idea.
âand now youâre thinking about it, arenât you? god dude, just- go get your man. weâre never gonna finish this conversation until you can say what you need to,â she said, wrinkling her nose.
âheâs not my-â charles tried weakly.
âdonât care, go,â she said, pushing him forward.
he paused briefly, breathing in shakily before returning to his usual bravado seamlessly. âEDWIN!! what are you working on mate?â he called, grinning as he walked around the desk to look over his shoulder and discretely took his bottom lip into his mouth.
âiâm rather stuck on this piece of evidence, you seeâŚâ edwin delved into his explanation, charlesâs pupils dilating with every word as his chest heaved.
âgod, iâm so good at this. also, ew. i should leave.â
You know when you see something that just makes sense?like an aha moment. Well this is it op is cracked at explaining such a complex and in depth storyline
so we all know edwin was in hell and charles was abused by his father. both were in horrible, violent situations, and neither deserved it. but i think the way they do (and do not) talk about their experiences are very revealing.
because, edwin brings up hell every five minutes. he plays the trauma olympics like a pro. and he's comfortable doing that because he knows he didn't deserve it. but he never talks about the actual details of went on in hell, only that it was absolutely awful. because though he is incredibly open about the fact that he went through a traumatic situation, he is very closed about the details of that traumatic situation. this is likely because he was raised in the edwardian era, and, well, people were hardly open about the details in their emotions at that time. and i think the fact that edwin never really talks about it means he's likely never really processed it. in the case of the light leapers, he sees a babydoll head in the gift shop and turns it around while visibly afraid. he has these residual, lingering fears, and they are never addressed, because he never actually addresses them. he has either fooled everyone around him into thinking that by mentioning hell, he is processing it, or charles is just so determined to be peppy that edwin is able to flit around, solving cases, while no one ever questions the depths of the impact hell had on him.
now, charles, on the other hand? you have to pry the fact that charles is traumatized out of his cold dead mouth. he will jump through all sorts of hoops, wave away all sorts of questionable comments, because he doesn't know he didn't deserve it. having an abusive parent is different from something traumatic happening to you. edwin has full confidence throughout the entire show that he does not deserve hell, that it is a clerical error. but charles? the person who is supposed to love and protect him at all costs is hurting him. and we know that he was physically abusive, but like, we don't know the details of what else went down, coz charles never talks about it. & charles never talks about it, and i'm gonna take a gander that it's likely because he is embarrassed and ashamed because he thinks he did something to deserve it. AND because charles feels this pressure to balance out edwin always talking about his trauma. so between the guilt from thinking being abused was his fault, & the guilt of bringing the group's morale down, charles absolutely never discusses his trauma. and, most of the time, that's ok, coz he's able to jump around from adventure to adventure without ever having to process his death.
edwin copes with being alone in his trauma for years by talking about it all the time in a casual manner, as if it's not properly a big deal. he doesn't have too much guilt attached to ending up in hell -he understands it was not his fault- and subsequently, is comfortable being open about it's existence.
charles copes with being abused by his father by hiding it away and pretending it didn't happen, because he has so much guilt and complicated feelings about it that he is not able to talk about it in a casual matter, and he thinks that, if he did, he would be judged for it.
