Alright everyone. I had a day to think about where I'm going to go from here. Starting from today, the Alpha version of my Joshua Graham follower mod will no longer be up. I do not support any reuploads anywhere else on the internet, but the internet is the internet, so... meh. I will continue updating and working on the new version of Joshua, and will post updates for all you following and supporting my efforts. It's only right to share the progress I'm making with you all because I am real proud of what I have accomplished so far, and despite difficulties, I am soldiering on. Joshua will be posted on the Nexus when he is finished. No, I will no support the other mod author who has taken my ideas and plans to incorporate into his mod, and I do not give permission for anyone to use my assets for his mods. I will support Jash's followers, and even provide patches for npc banter. I have come a LONG way learning how to mod for Fallout 4, and it's a trip. Joshua will have his own unique skin texture, with added scar overlay. His skin is crafted in Substance Painter, the first time using that sob lol, and the final version will be polished. The clothing/armor he will be using is also crafted by me and no longer using vanilla assets. I have Material Designer, and along with blender, his outfit will be entirely my own. All the way down to the textures. Since these are my creations and I haven't offered them to any project to use, I will give permission to the F4SE team to use them and the character model if they don't already have one made. If they do, then I will grant permission to whoever asks to make a patch using my assets. Hopefully, I can remember to add that to the perms page. Voice assets are entirely AI generated. I've manipulated the settings enough to give him a more human-sounding tone, as well as including breaths. If you have some issue with AI voices, then you are welcome to pay the OG VA to have him voice the character. I do not have the funding to do so, and because I do not own the rights to the character, I can not hire the VA to revoice him. I would like to add that I have obtained permission from Bethesda via e-mail to go ahead and create the follower. I wanted to cover my ass because this is a character from another one of their games, but not Fallout 4, and I didn't want them to frown upon my work.
Not "formal", but a thumbs up as long as the mod is not for profit, or being used for shitty purposes. There, that's out of the way. So, a bit of an explanation of what I am doing in the mod itself to make it stand out as a real, living character that you won't just use for a mule: I am giving him a regard system and affinity system. I know I already spoke on this before, but to re-iterate, Joshua's demeanor towards you will grow or shrink depending on your actions in the commonwealth, and with dialogue choices. Thanks to Larian, I am trying to develop a large dialogue tree for Joshua that has many choices for the player, and some will be locked behind your gender or which factions you wish to RP as representing. There will also be options for players who want to RP as the Lone Wanderer or as Courier Six. He will be more familiar with Six, and his dialogue will reflect that. There will also be a lot of Religious talk that echoes the belief system of Mormons for immersion purposes. I will flag these as a particular topic so that if it's something that bothers you, you have the option to ask him to chill with the bible talk. There will be a lot of choices, dialogue, ambient dialogue and he will even speak to other npcs. And thanks to Jash, he should also already equip his Light Shining in Darkness. I would like to have him actually be a higher level than you, due to experience. Even though I am really making the mod for myself, I hope you enjoy what I do share. Since I only have 1 fallout NPC to deal with, my attention can be directed to this one character. But, yeah, that's all I have to say at this time. :)
Itβs pumpkin season guise.
Aaaaannnd, we're back at it my friends. This is going to be a mad dash to complete, and it's not going to be an easy feat, that's for sure. As now, I have to get a working and (hopefully) bug free version of the Remake out before that other guy finishes his. It's now a matter of pride, as well as not coming off as a copycat (although I have receipts lol). Welp, off to get this dialogue, scripting, and quest tree a bit further along.
I want to first thank everyone who has been following me, and showing support as I learn the ropes of fallout and skyrim modding. I have been a mod author since oblivion, and always kinda felt shy about distributing my mods, as I'm the type of person to always question my own skills. It's counter-productive, I know. But I have always loved learning about how to make mods of all sorts. Today I realized, or actually read, that the ideas I have typed up or spoken about, are going to be utilized in another mod recreating Joshua Graham. And it's going to be on Nexus. Well, it already is, but Joshua isn't yet implemented. Now, I have not released any actual storyline, because why spoil things, so that will be quite different. Unfortunately, since I don't really want to deal with any drama, I am making the mod private. I'll make some videos of game play when it get's further updates, and if you are interested in it, just let me know and I'll give you a link to the finished product. Free of course. I just... feel defeated by looking into the other mod, reading the comments. why fucking bother?
