——— ⁂ This year at Ogden, Quinn had bought herself a townhouse in the local area as a birthday present. Living in dorms freshman year without somewhere to escape to had driven her half mad. A librarian had given her the idea; one of the many mornings she showed up groggy and incoherent from lack of sleep. You're rich rich. Why not buy somewhere? It hit her like a train. Veering on the sensible side, she still kept paying her dorm [ Waverly #206 ] for when she needed to be on campus. Tonight was one of those nights, with a biochem midterm stupid early in the morning. She didn't know what had triggered such a petty tactic... other than the fact she merely existed. At exactly 10pm her dorm mate had decided it was the perfect time for flute practice. He just continued, getting louder and louder. Eventually, after leaving the dorm for a walk and coming back, she had enough and jumped up from her bed — grabbing the flute from his two hands and smacking it against the wall. The head joint fell to the floor with a clang. It was probably dented. He just laughed and said Bianca was right. The phrase ringing through her head carried her slippered feet all the way to Linden. Quinn was FURIOUS. The sophomore didn't know if this was a Greek rivalry thing or a Pre-Med thing but whatever it was, tonight was not the night. She wrapped her knuckles furiously against Bianca's door. After she answered, Quinn dropped the rest of the flute at her feet.
❝ I need you to stop giving your minions ideas ! ❞

the loud knocking on her door nearly made her jump out of her skin. she scrunched her eyebrows together as she hurried to finish moisturizing her face before leaving the bathroom. bianca didn’t want whoever to get the chance to pound on her door again. besides, it was late and she wasn’t expecting anyone, or was she? if she did, she forgot about their plans. bianca opened the door and plastered a smile on her face before speaking, confusion still written on her face. ❝it’s nearly midnight and you knocking on the door like you’re the police,❞ she shook her head. the pace her heart was beating would’ve given an old man a heart attack. ❝you needed something?❞
*crushes my emotions with my bare hands* as I was saying,

“I mixed it myself,” Parisa confirmed, almost as though she could read Quinn’s mind. She didn’t trust people she didn’t know to make her drinks at an event like this. “It’s… good but maybe a bit too sweet for my tastes, I should’ve probably gone with seltzer instead of Sprite,” she reviewed, savoring the flavor of lemons and pomegranate nonetheless. “Not like pina coladas are an option here,” she muttered, wondering when non-drinkers were going to have their time to thrive at college parties.
Snickering as Quinn talked about her cousin’s power of persuasion, Parisa shook her head. “I’m not ridiculously opposed to going in, but also not intending on it. I spent a little too long doing my hair and makeup to let it get messy, at least this early.” Curly tendrils framed Parisa’s face, with her dark tresses styled in its usual updo. “Plus, I much prefer the ocean to pools. Saltwater is sticky, but still more refreshing than chlorine. Not like we have great beaches up here anyway, but still I’m more of a resort pool girl than a… college competitive pool girl.” Even Parisa’s family’s pool in California was saltwater - not that she swam in it much.
"i don't see the point in any of it," she admitted. quinn had never been one for the water. "but if you do end up in there, please scrub hard after and don't come crying to me if you catch norovirus from the human soup." she finished her drink. parisa was right, it was too sweet. "i have a question for you while i have you here. it's months away, of course, but when the holidays come around i'm sure i'm going to be invited to something formal. i wanted to ask if you'd consider designing a dress for me. paid, of course."
——— ⁂ ❝ I know I shouldn't say this but did Greer really have to pick this year of all of them? It's just like her to disappear right when our professors are deciding what advanced classes we get to take. Freshman would've been so much more convenient... ❞ Quinn vented, clasping her glass of non-alcoholic rosé. She wouldn't say something so alarmingly coldhearted to anyone but Sloane— unless pushed. The pair had spent countless hours over the years privately shit talking their shared relative. It wasn't like The Golden Girl didn't deserve it. She had a part in making each of their lifes hell at times. Just as Quinn was about to talk, a waiter came over with menus. They said their thanks and she continued.
❝ Here I am going on about myself again. You don't care. How's film club going? ❞
——— ⁂ ❝ CYP2D6 inhibitors. ❞ Quinn added, getting a nod from their Biochem professor. She zoned out from the open discussion then, her eyes wandering past the faces of her classmates until they landed on who had come to mind. She began running through a checklist and felt a familiar tug of concern. Not as many as a few days ago but still more than last week.
The dismissal of the class almost passed her by, forcing Quinn to pack her materials up in a rush to join the rest. With quick footwork she made up the distance. When at the front of the pack and alongside Courtney– otherwise affectionately known as Coco –she bumped shoulders with him. ❝ Well that’s 90 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. What a snoozefest. ❞

instead of denying, he shrugs at her — he’s never denied the attraction he’s had to her before. to her face, at least… in front of greer ? well, he had to keep up appearances, no ? plus, the ongoing illusion of what’s going on between greer and link ?? would be shattered, if he publicly went for her cousin. “ it’s human nature, isn’t it ? why are we constantly breaking the rules otherwise ? besides that, though, you hold your head up high. that’s attractive. ” he responds, leaning back against the wall after exhaling his smoke into the running water. “ well, you’re in this locker room alone.. in the middle of the party. planning a costume change or hiding ? can’t be anything else. ”
she smiled coyly. "i was waiting for someone interesting to show up, and they did, but i'm appalled by your lack of imagination." quinn stubbed her half-smoked cigarette out on the white tile; it hissed against the moisture as it died. before she could think herself out of it, quinn nimbly swung herself over his lap so that she was straddled on top. the skin of her thighs met his jeans and she hoped she had picked the right moment to make a move. as her hands weaved lightly behind link's neck, she looked into his eyes and thought of all the late nights he left her on read. all the contemptible craving, despite her better judgement. "don't you know how much fun a woman can have while everyone thinks she's alone?"
