How DC felt turning Tim Drake from a justice-driven genius with a deep respect for Batman and an overwhelming desire to succeed despite his parents negligence to a psychotic teenager from the suburbs who takes his parents love for granted in favor of his obsession with Batman that eventually leads to him ruining their lives and still getting his way.
doodle bc this is extremely Jean coded
I love Henry Cheng because where tf did he come from??? Like there was absolutely zero mention of him in the first two books and suddenly he appears out of thin air with enough charisma to feed a small family and a robotic bee. Oh and also his mom is a crime boss?? So there’s that
Funniest part of The Raven King was for sure when it was revealed that Cheng2 was not in fact Henry’s brother but actually just some random kid who was also named Henry
this is a post born primarily out of personal interest/necessity but i hope it will be useful to other people too. outtakes and cut scenes from trc have been floating around fandom spaces for a while, but they are infuriatingly hard to track down: some of them have been reblogged without tags and are therefore lost in the depths of tumblr, some i did not get to reblog before maggie deleted her tumblr, and some were posted to twitter and subsequently deleted.
so, since i was tired of having to dig through months and months of my trc tag (and often coming up empty handed), i decided to compile all the deleted scenes i could into this post. it is possible that i have forgotten some, and if that is the case, please let me know.
i owe a big debt of gratitude to kelly @harvardparrish for compiling a downloadable archive of maggie’s tumblr; most of the outtakes below i retrieved by browsing maggie’s “how i write” tag in the archive and taking screenshots of the relevant posts. others were screenshots that were posted to twitter by maggie, which i managed to save before the tweets were deleted.
enjoy!! (under a cut for length and future edits)

I hate when all the banter and quips immediately end after two characters start a relationship. Like let them love and hate each other! It’s not enemies to lovers if they just magically stop arguing after one kiss.
Every time someone says that Tim Drake discovered the identities of both Batman and Nightwing and became the third Robin because he was BORED an angel dies
I’m actually crying whose decision was it to have Lloyd’s edgy montage scene be him jumping from the rooftops with Hard Knock Life from Annie playing in the background
Jean being real asf
I love aftg because it’s literally impossible to water down the characters. Literally everything that they do is based on the unique intricacies of their circumstances. Like there’s no surface level behavior for them because they’re all so individual and have different responses to the situations they’re placed in.
This is also abt how annoyed I get when people try to dumb characters like Neil Josten to “short and feral and depressed” or Andrew to “angry and spontaneous bad boy” when they’re SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT RAHHH
Ronan Lynch, believing himself to be the worst evil in the world, constantly meeting and seeing worser evils (Kavinsky, the Demon, the actual devil) and having to come to terms with the fact that maybe he’s not so bad
