Several days had gone by with the curse lifted, but Silas was still showing hints of fatigue. Nightmares had dissipated into solid REM sleep, though the incubus’s body had yet to fully recover. He kept the shop closed for those days, placing a sign for anyone that came by that read “temporarily closed due to illness”, and stayed huddled up in his loft just above. Guilt swiftly crawled into the sheets as he slumbered. The scale had plagued him, changed his core moral compass to something the cubi had never expected nor fully realized. Not until Safiye had ripped it from his grasp to pulverize it, bits of jade and emerald dust fading into nothingness. When he woke, all Silas could think about was his fellow incubus and the way he had treated someone he considered a close friend. Lies and for what reason? An object and a false sense of doing a good deed? Hardly the path the Kyun was known to walk and it showed in the way Gabriel believed him.
The smell of books permeated his nose as the cubi slunk into the library, peeking around each corner in hopes to find the fellow cubi working his usual shift. A text was too impersonal for an apology, charcoal hues bouncing around the room until chocolate locks were seen and Silas made his way over. “Hey—” his usual warm grin and eyes that actually looked as though there was life behind them, “Got a break soon?”

Pandora
Pandora: What is the worst gift you’ve ever received?-chuckles lightly- Oh gosh, I remember my brother’s first attempt at crafting this keepsake box for one of my birthdays and it was— it was truly hideous but he made it from his heart. The color was this puke green and I believe it also had some touches of cherry red. Even the latch didn’t work right, but I smiled anyway.

“I heard…that Tranquilitea is under the ownership of a shapeshifter who just really fucking likes tea. Then you have the witch at Anxietea who loves the magical brews that do a little more for the person that drinks it. Neither is really better in my opinion, but I’ve also had way too much fucking tea in my life time.” It took Gabriel a few more moments, but he placed his hand against Silas’s chest, “What’s wrong?” He noted the exhaustion that seemed to creep in from the other’s soul – the way he looked far more tired, almost like Kasandra had.
Waving a hand, Silas tried his best to ignore the topic of his own personal health. He had been on the brink of exhaustion all week and each moment the cubi finally made it into deep sleep, the usual nightmare routine would creep in. There was no way he wanted to talk about it fully, even with the look of pure concern hanging on Gabriel’s face and filling Silas with guilt. “Haven’t fully recovered from the Eidolon’s,” a white lie that he hoped didn’t show through given his current state and tried to change the subject back, “I like Anxietea’s Secret Tea Party blend with the rooibos. You can’t tell me you don’t have a favorite.”

Hadn’t Silas felt that before? That encroaching, hair-raising feeling that had once started in a tiny shop in Andong. One that the incubus had not recognized then, but oh he’d wished he would have realized was the start of this long, immortal journey. Pandemonium. Why Seokga’s grasp was so firm on Korea during those days of tyranny and war, what all of this had done to his family and friends who would never understand that they had never done anything wrong besides exist. So as the sensation grew stronger— bell chiming at the door of Knick Knack, surpassing the portions in Silas that still felt agony about those days began to bubble up. “How-” even if he knew exactly what to say, the words hardly wanted to leave his throat anyway and only moved his onyx hues to capture the moment. The individual that stood before him held different features, sun-kissed skin that didn’t quite match his tempestuous gaze, though the incubus knew deep down was connected to him.

The past few weeks had treated Connor to a rollercoaster he wasn’t adequately prepared for. The blade he’d found buried in Scylla’s chest still left him with no answers, and a whole lot of stress to add to his already tense shoulders. The biography he’d chosen revolved around the deceased Goddess. As Silas answered, he smiled softly and nodded, “I understand. I’d hate to trouble you,” he’d settled on the floor, face upturned toward the other man. He was making a feeble attempt at not outright staring but- it was hard. “My name is Connor,” he reached upward to offer a handshake, “and I feel like I’ve seen you around quite a bit. Could just be my mind playing tricks though.”
“It’s really no bother,” the cubi replied as he looked down at what the stranger was carrying. He recognized the scales immediately and felt his stomach turn slightly at the image, the very item still being carried in his pocket days after the fiasco. He had been more than obsessed with it, but hardly wanted to seem desperate at what exactly the brunette was researching. Silas had been doing some of his own digging, even if the book now within his grasp had nothing to do with the Goddess. “Silas,” free hand moving to shake his, “Could have seen me. I run a shop on the main street.” There weren’t many Korean’s running shops in downtown Corinth, so it was highly likely that he had been seen before. Connor had a familiarity as well and kept getting hits of freshly baked bread as he stood before the cubi.

“Sorry ‘boot that, probably didnae hear the notification over the noise.” Alright, game on, he wasn’t going to have to fend anyone off. Granted, he supposed he could always just take her out around the alley outside for a bite, she wouldn’t have needed much persuading with how she’d been borderline clinging to him. Jamie had some faith in this stranger to be interesting enough to make up for the loss. Hand kind of hovering against the stranger’s lower back, he ushered them through the small crowd to get to the bar where he promptly perched himself on an empty seat. The moment the bartender was within earshot, he was calling to him. “Whiskey sour, throw in a splash of red wine. And then whatever my dear friend here desires.” Elbows on the bar and fingers laced together, he shot the stranger a knowing smirk.
Now that he really got a chance to look at him beyond just yanking him from the crowd of people, he realized he was actually pretty attractive. There was a warmth about him, something about his eyes. Smelled nice, too. This night was definitely shaping up to be better already. The moment the bartender scurried off, he was resting his chin on his hands, completely enthralled in his new companion. “So what do ye do that ye smell so damn lovely? Didnae know they made a cologne that’s basically sawdust.”
Not as though this was the first time Silas had been in a similar situation, but typically being used as a scapegoat didn’t require him to continue the skit that long after the departure. Most would just thank him before both going their separate way or depending, the cubi might get a little snack and never see them again. It was all about the circumstances. Which, in truth, he did not someone such as the man in front of him to actually take interest in anything that had to do with Silas himself. People and creatures were full of surprises, not able to get a full read on what exactly the cubi was dealing with. A hunter, perhaps? But most of the time there was at least a different kind of— well, almost scent and that’s not what Silas was grabbing here.
He allowed the stranger to lead him towards the bar with the same grin as before, finding a seat next to him and ordering his own drink, “Seoul Mule, light ice.” Quick and to the point, obsidian hues floating from the bartender to the man that brought him over. Eyes were crystal blue to the point that they were almost haunting, eagerness that Silas hadn’t noticed until the moment they got cozy at the bar top. A chuckle fell from the cubi’s lips, leaning back slightly and brushing off his shirt. “Must still have bits on me,” he replied, looking down to see if anything was noticeable, “I do a lot of woodworking.”
What are three things necessary to your happiness? Family, honesty and creativity.

Gabriel had made his way around the store to stand by Silas finally, tilting his head a little bit more at the snark that exited his friend’s mouth. The other incubus was soft; a kinder spirit than Gabriel had ever met in his entire existence. And that existence was being reminded to him, again. “Oh, so he’s got jokes.” Gabriel huffed out a laugh, shoving Silas lightly, “Unbelievable. I offer you my friendship, my wisdom with all my age, and you just – throw it back at me. Forget it. I’m going to steal the tea recipes and then I’m going to blame you.”
“Alright, see you in about thirty minutes,” the fellow cubi kept the smirk firmly planted on his face as Gabriel attempted to psych him out. Silas wasn’t exactly sure if he really needed another with him in order to do the deed, but assumed another set of hands was probably necessary. Either that or another set of eyes. Regardless, he was involved now for better or worse. “Maybe you can support the bookstore across the street while you wait. I’m sure there is something you haven’t seen yet.”
