WOOOO first adena/mak fic on ao3!!! a canon divergent fic in which adena didn't die :))))

I just realised I forgot to cross post on Tumblr, so here it is!! a paedyn/kai canon divergence fic :))

despite the fact that I knew that adena's death was inevitable, DOESN'T MEAN I STILL WONT CRY BECAUSE OF THE ENDING IN POWERFUL

powerful spoilers:

it's funny the way fates change. man, kitt and Adena could have been such a fun duo and great friends :')

so I saw this general opinion that kitt asked pae to be his wife to punish Kai or something and it's huh???

while reading I didn't think kitt meant it in that way at all.

like we see how against the idea he was previously, but he still did it. he asked Kai in the throne room, and Kai said no. maybe kitt should have been able to see that he was lying, but who knows? I guess that made kitt finally submit to the idea

because at the end of the day.

1. they are brothers and they care about each other. if Kai doesn't see pae that way anymore, then he thinks the wedding isn't all that bad. plus, he may have thought that, the fact that Kai didn't let her go and actually bring her to him meant he was fine with whatever punishment he could have had for her

2. realistically speaking, it could have been his compassion. maybe he didn't want pae to die. he asked Kai to bring her to him when he was grief stricken, but he also changed his request to her being alive. maybe that speaks volumes about the fact that, maybe, just maybe, the control his father had over him was loosening. like obviously his father would have wanted kitt to execute pae, but he didn't do that

in conclusion, kitt isn't all that bad

or maybe it's my thing for blonds peeking out, leading me to look for crumbs (AARON WARNER WHEN I CATCH YOU-)

Oh god wait I need to share this now after Reckless.

Obviously RECKLESS SPOILERS so if you haven't finished the book than don't go ahead. Or go if you want idk.

I have always had this Kaidyn (yes I'm using this ship name because it's perfect) headcanon.

Imagine a scenario where Kai gets heavily injured (in my head he jumped in front of a sword meant to pierce Paedyn etc) and he's bedridden for days and Peadyn stays by his bedside waiting for him to get up.

And I always imagined Paedyn holding onto Kai's hand and kissing them. Kissing the top of his hand, his knuckles, the palm of his hand or just his fingers. Just she always kisses his hand.

Now when I was playing around with this headcanon I was thinking that, since Kai always talks about his hands being drenched with blood of the lives he had taken, this would be a way for Paedyn to show her forgiveness for Kai and how she cherishes every part of him, even the hands he sees as nothing more than tools for delivering death.

BUT NOW WITH NEWFOUND INFORMATION FROM RECKLESS EVERYTHING CHANGES!

Because now, imagine the exact same scenario but Paedyn is kissing Kai's thumb. She's kissing his thumbs, the same thing he used to do to his little sister to make her feel more powerful, the same thing he did to Paedyn to try to give her strength during her toughest moments, and she's doing the same thing because she wants to give him her strength so he can wake up. Kissing his thumb because he's always been the one to give his strength with those thumb kisses and now he needs that strength back.

And for bonus hurting points, imagine Kitt witnessing this moment. Kitt seeing the woman he's forcing to marry him as revenge, the woman his brother loves to the point of dying for her without a second thought and the woman who has not strayed from his brother's unmoving body for days now, doing the exact same thing his brother used to do to their little sister.

He knows the meaning of the act and he not only realises how much of his heart and soul Kai has opened up to Paedyn but also how badly she needs to see him wake up, to the point she's relying on tricks for children that hold no real power. Because she can't transfer her strength to him by kissing his thumb, but she's desperate enough, hurting enough to try it.

if i had a nickel everytime i read a romantasy book about a poor girl from the streets who got picked to participate in a trial between rich kids with superpowers, while having to live at the palace where the two brothers fell in love with her before she betrayed them and ran away, i'd have two nickels.

ngl this is why I use 'frau' instead of 'fraulein' in my fics with him

it's canon that Klavier isn't actually German, so I've headcannoned that he doesn't actually know German at all and only learnt the absolute basics to get by in Germany. like how fraulein is outdated, he also uses 'achtung' which is, from my research (if you can even call it that), attention or watch out usually used in the military. now obviously he does not use it in those contexts, so again and incorrect word usage. verdict? bro has no idea wtf he's saying and just wanna looks cool

im constantly going back and forth between thinking klavier calls the women in aa Fräulein in a demeaning/sexist way or thinking that it was a localization issue and its not meant to be taken that way.

Fräulein is kind of an antiquated word, its akin to miss in english and is meant to signify an unmarried woman. much like how the difference between miss and mrs is falling out of use in english, Fräulein carries a pretty sexist connotation and is seen as belittling, like the woman in question is not as valuable as a married woman who's given the title Frau. (the dimunitive -lein is usually added to words to indicate that they're small, so its essentially suggesting that a woman without a husband is smaller than a married one.)

my question to you is, is this intentional? i could definitely see klavier being a dick to ema, but this is basically his go-to for any woman he interacts with. alternatively, its intentional but its meant to suggest that klavier is not really german and only uses german words for his rockstar persona, so the meaning didn't carry over to him.
