To the people (especially people of color) who believe we shouldn’t share the videos of police brutality against Black people:
I understand the trauma that comes with seeing people who look like you being brutalized and I respect that. I think we should be including trigger warnings also action steps so we don’t see that pain for no reason.
I don’t believe in completely avoiding sharing the videos that are the only reason that this movement was started and propelled. Even I read all of the posts about Jacob Blake’s case, but those words weren’t enough. And if those words weren’t enough for a Black person, they certainly won’t be enough for non-Black people.
I will continue to put trigger warnings, but I can’t bring myself to only share words that dully echo the pain of being brutalized. It’s just too important to limit these feelings to only language.
