While most people started their fanfic journeys back in the somewhat olden days on sites like fanfiction.net, LiveJournal, Tumblr, or DeviantArt. This is how I started before I discovered fanfiction.net in the late 2000s, then Ao3 in the mid 2010s
My 11ish old self actually remembers these stories quite fondly.
Also any fanfic I read back in the day were mostly just Naruto.

One of my favorite things that fanfic authors will do is bring up fanfiction in their fanfiction. Like if the characters are famous in the fic and get together and whatnot and then they are navigating their relationship being public or whatever and they come across fanfiction written about them???? In the fanfiction that I am currently reading??? It is amazing I love with authors do it. Keep up the good work guys.

I think one of the funniest ways to discover that something has a way bigger fandom than you expected is by looking at two characters and going "huh I bet people ship them" so you open ao3 and look the ship up expecting there to be maybe a handful of fics out there but instead you are greeted with this:
There's just nothing that quite compares to the sheer glee of it.
I was not expecting this to be as common a tag as it is on Ao3
I mean… I can kinda see it
Best life moment is when you comment under a fic and then proceed to have a whole conversation with the author like you had known each other since birth
