This is 24 year old George Russell, who due to Seb’s illness was the sole director of the GPDA present at the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. This is him leaving an impromptu drivers’ meeting held after the evening FP2 session; the meeting was arranged after it became apparent that there was a non-zero chance that the circuit might become the victim of a missile attack.

For some three hours, the entirety of the paddock’s press stared through the floor to ceiling windows of their ground floor meeting room, with several of the drivers still in their race suits as they debated how they should respond. After it began to become clear that no consensus could be easily reached, the team principals, who had all left the track much earlier in the evening, started to return. Helmut Marko took the opportunity to announce that Max was two tenths less scared than everyone else, and that while Checo was frightened he would soon get over it because these sorts of things happen all the time in Mexico.

Eventually, and it was well into the early hours of the morning by this point, the rest of the drivers left through a back door while George came out alone, on his way to race control to inform the FIA whether the race weekend would be going ahead.

Yes it’s about swearing, but it’s not just about swearing.
