Hero and Partner week day 3-A Quiet Day
They like to nap under the big tree :)
(prompts under the cut)
I haven’t been very active lately, so I wanted to make a quick update post. I’ve been good, just busy. I’m currently balancing two summer jobs, being on three Mario Kart teams, and trying to get through Hades II and Persona 3 Reload. Needless to say I’ve been kinda slammed, but I’ve enjoyed having so much to do.
I also finished my run of Explorers of Sky a little bit ago, and it was everything I thought it would be and more. All of the characters were fantastic, but I particularly adore Grovyle and his relationship with the hero. I want nothing but happiness for that lizard. The Darkrai arc also hit like a truck, I seriously do not know how they managed to fit such mature and heart wrenching themes that I relate to on a personal level into a kid’s game. I have a few writing ideas jotted based on how I think specific scenes or interactions would go with Team Sunspark, so expect to see some of those here in the near future! The first one is almost done, snd I’m hoping to have it posted this week.
Ok, that’s all I got! Thanks for reading, and have a good day/night/whatever time you are reading this at! :D
Shinx and Vulpix's shinies glimmer in both glitter and gold!
This is why Grovyle doesn't tend to show affection very often
@heropartnerweek Day 1 - Shiny
For two people that come from a dark future they are pretty luminous. Pringle wonders if Cebolla was also like that as a human.
I finally got around to doing this last night! Playing EOS recently has definitely had some significant ramifications for this list 😅
Do Leo and Clay have any dreams they want to achieve?
Thanks for the ask!! I'm still playing through the postgame of Explorers of Sky right now, so I'll be answering this based in where Clay and Leo are at that point of the story.
Clay wants to be someone that Grovyle would be proud of. After Dialga restored him to the new timeline, Clay slowly started to regain pieces of his memories with Grovyle. This is painful for him because Grovyle essentially raised him in the dark future, and Clay views him as his older brother. This only gets worse as time goes on and he recovers more memories. Despite the pain that this comes with, Clay is determined not to let it get him down. He's determined to live his life to the fullest in the incredible world he protected, because he knows it's what Grovyle would want him to do. He'll keep working hard like he always has, and he'll keep exploring with Leo and helping him achieve his own goals. He'll keep moving forward with a smile on his face, and he'll always be there for Leo, like Grovyle was for him.
Leo dreams becoming as great of an explorer as his parents were. They were master rank explorers, and their exploration team, Team Daybreak, was well known for their many discoveries. Leo wants to achieve Master rank with Clay on Team Sunspark. It seems unattainable to him at first, but he becomes increasingly confident as he explorers more with Clay. He got close to giving up after Clay disappeared, but his return a few months later reignites his motivation. After graduating from Wigglytuff's guild, Team Sunspark quickly becomes known for their explorations of Sky Peak and Blizzard Island. Due to their success in this and in preventing the collapse of Temporal Tower, Clay and Leo become known across the Grass Continent as generational young prodigies, and Team Sunspark becomes recognized as one of the hottest up and coming exploration teams. They're currently at Super Rank, and Leo's more fired up than ever to continue working towards his goal.
Once he achieves master rank, Leo hopes to travel overseas to search for his parents. They went missing a few years before he met Clay while exploring on the Water Continent, and he wants to find out what happened to them. He also wants to discover lots of unique sceneries to paint. He's always looking for fresh inspiration as an artist, and his explorations are a good way at providing that.
Sorry that I went on a bit of a tangent there, but I saw this as an opportunity to dump a lot of the ideas I've had while playing through the postgame. Thanks again for asking!!
I just had to clear all of Aegis Cave without Leo because he hit a pitfall trap at the very start of the ice cave… Clay’s an absolute monster and took out the 4 legendaries without issue, but I felt so bad leaving Leo behind for three entire exploration. The cutscenes felt so weird without him 😢
Ruby’s anon again! I just wanted to reiterate that the siblings and Ruby are all yours! I don’t want to jump in a hijack your creative process. I just wanted to share some details about the process I did, but I can see how it can be seen as “hey I did this so you do this” kind of thing. That’s not my intention at all. Tell me if I’m doing so and I’ll make sure I don’t do it again.
Also for your recent comic, I’m crying at how Ark is like “Yeah I don’t need to do anything. Twig has enough anger for all of us and she’s going to destroy them. All I have to do is sit, watch, and maybe redirect officer Magnezone if he arrives due to the commotion.”
I really love all your characters! They’re amazing! That comic really brightened up my day, so I’m so glad you made it!
Oh no no no I didn’t feel like you were hijacking my creative process whatsoever! I loved the line you included so much that I instantly wanted to include it in how I write things out! I absolutely loved hearing that insight into your own creative process and wanted to incorporate the amazing results of it because of that! :>
As for Ark being perfectly content to sit on the sidelines during the confrontation…
Thank you for your kind words, I’m so glad I was able to give back some of the cheer that ask provided me!
MAGMAR WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??? WHY WOULD YOU TAKE YOUR CHILDREN THERE?? AND HOW DID YOU LOSE THEM IN SUCH DIFFERENT LOCATIONS?? I'M SORRY BUT THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU
“I’m sorry.”
Twig’s brows furrowed and she glanced about, but she couldn’t find anything unusual in the warm light of day. Sitting in her garden, feeling the warm sun upon her scales, she closed her eyes and listened a moment longer, but the voice didn’t return.
“Twig?”
Her eyes jolted open, and Twig’s wide-eyed gaze turned upon her friend. Celebi shook her head, a knowing smile on her face, and continued running a long fine brush over Twig’s claws.
“I was asking,” Celebi said slowly, “what you think of this colour?”
Twig huffed a quiet laugh. “It’s a bit late, isn’t it?”
“Not for me,” Celebi answered with a wink.
Celebi drifted backwards, her arms crossed proudly, and chin tilted in a smirk. Twig raised her claws and couldn’t help but smile. She’d been sceptical when Celebi suggested they paint her claws, but it had come out rather nicely. They had debated over it for some time, quickly deciding red would be unsettling, and that a shade of black which matched Ark wasn’t quite right, either. Instead, they’d settled on an opalescent sort of nail polish, one that shimmered in the light, making her claws nearly sparkle like a gemstone. Twig couldn’t help but think it was a bit much, but seeing Celebi’s eagerness and promises of how good it would look, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
“Thanks, Celebi.”
“It’s my pleasure, dear! As soon as it’s dry, get started.”
“On what?” Twig asked, her head tilting.
Celebi dramatically flicked her head and settled on the ground in front of Twig, facing away from her.
“On painting my wings, of course!”
Twig recoiled, a snort escaping her. “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
“Twig, darling, all my ideas are good ideas.”
“What about when you-”
“Don’t!” Celebi screamed, jumping away, and whipping around. “Don’t you dare say it!”
Twig doubled over in laughter, clenching at her gut. “You turned Grovyle back into a Treecko because you were startled! I didn’t think that was possible.”
Celebi rolled her eyes, arms crossed. “Turning time back on someone like that does take an inordinate amount of energy, but it’s not impossible! Though, it was a while before I had enough energy to change him back again.”
Finally bringing her laughter under control, Twig carefully wiped a stray tear from her eye, her nostrils burning with the scent of the nail polish. “No, I meant, I didn’t think you could be surprised.”
“Oh, well, a little surprise is nice sometimes.”
Twig nodded and the two fell into a comfortable silence, watching the clouds drift by, though Twig shivered when a breeze flowed through the garden, and the long shadows cast by the clouds were a little chilly.
There was something else odd too, but she couldn’t quite place it. In the shadows at the edge of her vision, something danced, just out of reach. It wasn’t the comforting noise that Ark’s shadow carried; it was quiet, practically whispering in ear, and though familiar, it felt completely different than Ark’s presence.
“It’s been nice,” Celebi said, shattering the silence like glass. “Spending more time together. Twig, I love you. Don’t you forget it.”
Smiling, Twig swallowed past the lump in her throat and allowed herself a moment to let the weight of it sink in, like a ball of warmth in her chest, and suddenly the day didn’t seem as cold. “I love you, too.”
“Enough to paint my wings?”
Laughter burst forth and Twig shook her head. “I’m still not sure this is a-”
“Oh, it’ll be fine, just a light coating to make me extra sparkly!”
The day dragged on, peaceful and slow. Celebi left and eventually, Ark returned from whatever he’d been doing, a new blanket for Twig bundled in his arms. After sharing a meal, Ark had tied the blanket around her neck like a cape and pronounced her his ‘super wife!’
She had called him a dork, helped with the dishes, and they’d settled on the couch, Twig leaning into Ark’s embrace and talking excitedly about her day. Ark listened with rapt attention, offering the occasional comment or groan at Celebi’s antics, and when Twig had nothing left to say, Ark shared his adventures from the day, and it was simple, and cozy, and perfect.
So, the days passed, Twig’s garden flourished, and her sketchbook was filled to bursting; she would have to get a new one soon. Still, every now and then, Twig would hear things on the wind, mumbled apologies, and earnest declarations. Yet, whenever she looked, no one was there.
Though, was it possibly she simply wasn’t looking hard enough? Perhaps, she already knew what she might find. Maybe the idea scared her, and honestly, who could blame her? Well, she could blame herself. After all, hearing voices, jumping at shadows, being afraid of nothing at all, was just silly. It was ridiculous, completely illogical, something she might’ve done in the past, but no more.
Yet, that thought made Twig freeze.
Immediately her mind began to race, telling her she was being absurd, that she was worrying over nothing, how if she kept up like this, she would only make herself a burden upon those she loved.
Like trains gone off the rails, her thoughts raced wildly, unable to stop and just barely avoiding crashing into each other. Any longer and there would be a collision and everything would go wrong and she-
Her eyes widened, and looking down, Twig found herself running a gentle claw over the proposal band Ark had given her. Taking a deep breath, she felt the band beneath her hand, and everything seemed to slow, just a little bit.
Moving into her room, Twig pulled her journal from where she’d left it, settled on the edge of her bed, and flicked to an old entry. The paper was crinkled, and somewhat water stained. In the weeks after she had fallen apart, Twig had often flicked back to this entry, detailing the few memories she had retained from those days. The entry spoke of her friends’ warmth, and how loved she’d felt. It spoke of something, sharp and bloodied, being dislodged from her chest, the remaining hole filled with something gentler.
Looking back on it all, she almost couldn’t believe it had really happened. It felt so distant, almost as if it had happened to another person.
“I’m sorry.”
Stiffening at the voice, Twig turned slowly, and standing by the edge of the shadows was a small human girl, with frizzy hair, patchy clothes, and toes that stuck through the holes worn in her shoes.
Something in her chest lurched, but Twig’s mind had finally gone quiet.
The girl clutched at the hem of her shirt; her knuckles turned white. “I’m sorry. I didn’t do a good job of keeping us safe.”
Her eyes going wide, Twig slipped off the bedside. “You’re… me?”
“I’m sorry.”
After a moment, Twig took a deep breath, feeling her heart rattle in her chest. “Hey, can, can you look at me?”
Another sniffle, and the girl shook her head.
Twig scooted closer, and, slowly reaching out, took the girl’s hands in her own.
“Y-you don’t have to be afraid,” Twig whispered, her voice on the verge of breaking. “We’re okay now.”
Slowly, the girl looked up, her mouth hanging open and eyes wide, as if she couldn’t believe Twig’s words.
Twig nodded, biting her lip. “Yeah, we’re safe. We’ve got people who love us.”
The girl looked away and took a hesitant step back into the shadows. “But what if we’re just being a pain? Aren’t, aren’t we a burden?”
A broken cry slipped past Twig’s lips, and she shook her head. “Thank you, for trying so hard to look after us, but you don’t need to anymore.”
“But, what if-”
Twig clenched her eyes shut and pulled the girl in tight, wrapping her in a hug. “Would you hold a burden like this?”
For a moment, the girl was still, then her arms wrapped around Twig’s torso and her hands scrabbled at Twig’s shoulders. The girl wept loudly, snot dribbling from her nose, and amidst her tears, Twig heard three words.
“You’re so warm.”
When Twig finally opened her eyes, the girl was gone, and Ark was practically breaking down the door. He’d only been gone a few hours, what could’ve happened to reduce Twig to a snivelling mess on the floor during that time? He couldn’t guess, and he didn’t need to.
Wrapping her in a blanket, Ark carried her to the bed, fetched her a glass of water, and then crawled in beside her. Instantly, she latched onto him, tears still flowing, and told him all about it. He rubbed gently at her back, whispering quiet reassurances.
It hurt, yet in that moment, all was right with the world.
@sincerely-sofie
@teshamerkel I may have gone overboard, but in my defence, they are very lovable. I wanted to do a sketch of team scarlet as Hiccup and Toothless (thank you for nothing, you useless reptile), but I couldn't figure it out.
Just finished the main game of Explorers of Sky, time to go cry myself to sleep even though I knew exactly what was coming :)
So I linked charge and thunder fang and well...
Come on clay that's a bit overkill don't you think?? We just need to ko the pelipper not reduce it to atoms.
I just found out that you can get eggs as a reward for completing jobs in EOS. I did not know this until just now when I received one. I'm sure you can imagine my surprise when the butterfree I rescued from floor B3 of Drenched Bluff offered her firstborn child to me for my service.
Oh, how the tables turn.
(+Extra)(They are so cringefail)

What are the things Leo and Clay like to do in their spare time? Do they have any hobbies / interests they'd like to explore but haven't been able to yet?
Clay spends a lot of his free time trying become literate again. He very quickly realizes how difficult it is to function in society when he can't read or write the language that everyone uses, and he hates having to rely on Leo for it (even though Leo doesn't mind it). After Leo helps him get the basics down in terms of the alphabet, necessary words, and simple grammar, he starts reading simple books to expand his vocabulary. Writing is particularly difficult for him to learn to due to the fact that he has to learn to write a new alphabet with paws AND as a quadruped. He comes to find that he enjoys reading comics a lot. The combination of pictures and less words allows him to enjoy fictional works despite his poor reading skills, which he greatly appreciates. Eventually, he wants to read well enough to read more advanced nonfiction books so he can learn more about the history, science, and overall state of the new world he's living in. That's on the backburner for now though.
Leo likes to paint in his spare time. Art is something his parents introduced him to when he was young, and they would often bring him back materials to use from their expeditions. It helps him de-stress, which is super good him considering that he's a bundle of nerves most of the time. After joining the guild with Clay, he starts to make his own supplies/paints using items they find in mystery dungeons. He also takes inspiration from the new places they explore and implements them into his paintings. Clay insists that his paintings are incredible and that he should be selling them somewhere, but Leo doesn't buy it.
There's a lot the two of them like to do together too. They both enjoy visiting Treasure Town while preparing for missions. Clay likes to chat with travelers and other explorers, and Leo enjoys talking with the shopkeepers whom he knows from his parents. They also like stopping by Spinda's after they finish their jobs for the day. Leo prefers sweeter drinks, whereas Clay tends to prefer more tart, citrusy juices. They also enjoy taking walks on the beach together when they have the time. The sound of the waves is relaxing, and it's a nice escape from all the noise of the world and busy guild life.
So the doodles I talked about wanting to make in this post somehow turned into me making mini references sheets for my Explorers of Sky OCs, so I’m gonna share those here!
Clay (he/him) is a human turned Shinx. He’s very friendly and outgoing, and he does most of the talking for Team Sunspark because of this. He tends to act quickly, and can be a bit impulsive at times. He initially joins Wigglytuff’s guild as an apprentice with Leo hoping to find out more about where he came from. As they go on more missions and grow closer, he quickly comes to realize that he doesn’t care if his memories ever come back if it means he can stay with Leo forever. He keeps the fact that he was human hidden from anyone he isn’t close to, as he would like to adjust to pokemon life without being treated differently.
There are a few things about Clay that make him visibly different than any other shinx. The first is his eyes, which are bright green instead of yellow. He also has a strangely shaped scar on his leg that he doesn’t know the origins of. Neither of these things give away the fact that he was human, but he suspects that they’re connected in some way.
Clay had his scarf with him when he woke up on the beach with amnesia. He treasures it because of this, as it’s the one thing connecting him to whatever his past holds. I wonder who could have given it to him…
Leo (he/him) is Clay’s partner and a charmander who’s lived in Treasure Town his entire life. He’s much more introverted and nervous than Clay is, but he grows to be comfortable talking with Clay and becomes more confident in his presence. His parents were once well renowned explorers, and he looked up to them greatly. However, they never returned from an exploration a few years back, so he’s been living on his own since then. Leo wants to follow in their footsteps and become an explorer, but the pressure of carrying their legacy is a lot for him to bear. He struggles with confidence, but with Clay there he believes he can do it.
The band Leo wears on his arm is one he dyed to be a similar blue to Leo’s scarf, so the team has matching accessories. He’s much more organized than Clay, so carries Team Sunspark’s bag and manages their items.
If you have any questions about these two please please please ask!! I had a lot of fun doing this, and I want to flesh out these characters more!
I started this comic back at the start of April, back when I made this other comic! It took an unfortunate amount of time to complete thanks to my condition.. but that's ok! All the lovely responses from the last comic kept me motivated! XDD (Thank you everyone!!🥰💞💞)
This time around I went with a more serious tone and put a bit more story in there! :00 With this comic I wanted to experiment with Bonnie and Gloria's relationship. And more importantly, Gloria as a character.
I've thought of her as the groups leader, some may even say she's a mother of sorts. She is always so calm in the face of danger.. She always knows exactly what to do and she does it perfectly. How is she so strong? How does she deal with the stress of it all?? Does she even feel stressed to begin with?? Well as its turns out.. she kind'a doesn't feel anything at all.. and she wishes she was stronger..
I SEE YOU TAKING REQS..,,, COULD U PLEASE DRAW MY KIDS.,,,,,
OMGGGG YUSSSS!!!! RIBBIONS N AIMILIOS LETSS GOOOOOO!!!!
Thx for the request!!!!!
Whoops, I totally forgot to share the team name! This is Team Sunspark, the newest apprentice team at Wigglytuff’s Guild!
Hey so you all know that Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game for the DS that I post about all the time right? Funny story, I haven't actually played it. Until now, that is! Meet Clay, the human turned shinx, and his charmander partner Leo. I'll probably be posting about them more in the near future as I get further in the game and get more character ideas for them, so be on the lookout for that! :D

Everyone go look at this!
I made some wild assumptions about some of the amazing teams I’ve been seeing in my notes after reblogging this amazing post and drew a handful of them! If anyone would like me to untag them, just let me know :>
