instead of denying, he shrugs at her — he’s never denied the attraction he’s had to her before. to her face, at least… in front of greer ? well, he had to keep up appearances, no ? plus, the ongoing illusion of what’s going on between greer and link ?? would be shattered, if he publicly went for her cousin. “ it’s human nature, isn’t it ? why are we constantly breaking the rules otherwise ? besides that, though, you hold your head up high. that’s attractive. ” he responds, leaning back against the wall after exhaling his smoke into the running water. “ well, you’re in this locker room alone.. in the middle of the party. planning a costume change or hiding ? can’t be anything else. ”
she smiled coyly. "i was waiting for someone interesting to show up, and they did, but i'm appalled by your lack of imagination." quinn stubbed her half-smoked cigarette out on the white tile; it hissed against the moisture as it died. before she could think herself out of it, quinn nimbly swung herself over his lap so that she was straddled on top. the skin of her thighs met his jeans and she hoped she had picked the right moment to make a move. as her hands weaved lightly behind link's neck, she looked into his eyes and thought of all the late nights he left her on read. all the contemptible craving, despite her better judgement. "don't you know how much fun a woman can have while everyone thinks she's alone?"

it was obvious leaky was being a nuisance. he should just call it a day and run a lap or two to relieve himself of this nervous energy. but instead he just plastered on a smile at quinn’s request. “are you forreal? cause i can do that. easy. you just gotta come out and support me alright? maybe bring a sign, chant my name, that’s the only way we can guarantee a win.” he teased, leaning back with a nod. “cool, cool, i’ll stop fidgeting…now.” glancing at his watch he timed it was the clock hit 0 and sat back. but within a few moments his leg was bouncing, his fingers tapping against his knee and his teeth chewing at his bottom lip as he tried his hardest to keep as still and as quiet as possible.
“i…this is harder than i thought.” he leaned over and whispered to her after about a minute.
"i'll do it all." she agreed and with his confirmation, went back to her work. or at least she tried. it wasn't long before he was making noise again — her pen hadn't even touched the paper yet. quinn put it down and nestled her head into her hands. she closed her eyes and took some deep breaths. was he annoying? yes. was her mood his fault? no. she was tired and emotional well before he turned up. she came up for air just as he leaned over. "yeah." she agreed and sat back. "i'm quinn, by the way. you are?"

WHERE right outside of the linden dorms
“ shh, please, be quiet — ” he desperately whispers into his backpack, which was now being carried at the very front of him, with the bag facing wherever he was walking. but it was as if bowie was just talking to a helpless baby animal, the kitten hidden in his backpack only meowed louder back in response. maybe this wasn’t his brightest idea. he stops in his tracks, when he realizes that he was about to walk into someone else. “ shit, sorry — ” and just as he began to apologize, the kitten meowed from the half open bag once again. he looked straight at the person in front of him. “ — don’t mind that, that’s just… my alarm. going off. i like to wake up to meows. ” he says confidently, as though that wasn’t the stupidest strain of words to leave his lips. “ on a very separate, hypothetical note… is it a Big Ogden Crime if i try to sneak a pet into the dorms ? i’m asking for my friend. ” at this point, he’d given up, a grin already making its way onto his lips.
quinn swivelled, ready to apologise in return, when she registered that it was bowie. she was just about to ask how his day was going when a noise escaped his bag. was that... a meow? she peered at the backpack. "alarm, huh?" quinn humoured him. "totally hypothetically — kinda. definitely a health violation. possibly a suspension. that wouldn't be something you were thinking of doing, would it?"

He laid his head on the pool edge, looking up at Quinn with a soft smile. “I’m a tad jealous. I don’t have any cousins.” Booker shared. “My brother and sisters are great, but it’d be nice to have some outside of my immediate family, you know?” Sharing helped with finding common ground. Booker thought of himself as an open book, if that book had sentences with whited-out sections. “Greer seemed like a party girl. Do you think she would be proud of this event? Or would you like to talk about something else?” Booker added, blinking innocently. “I think we have some classes together. If you’d like to discuss classes, who doesn’t love talking about medicine, right?”
her eyes narrowed conspicuously as he reeled off question after question. she didn't even know this guy's name and here he was, prepped for an interview. quinn didn't know if it was recent events with greer, being forced to be at this stupid party or her morrison upbringing but it put her back up. what was his deal? she tried to turn the conversation around. "do we? what's your major?"

they really began to rack their mind through every trick that he learned throughout the years trying to figure out where she was going to go with this as she led them towards the showers. and then when she turned the tap on, explaining to him exactly how it would work. as she explained, he found himself grinning at her. “ and if you ever wonder why i’ve been so deeply attracted to you, morrison, do remember this moment. ” he says as he puts the cigarette up to his lips, offering to light hers first before going for his. “ so, why are you hiding in here ? ”
—she held the cigarette between her forefinger and middle and leaned forward to the flame, wrapping her lips around the filter and inhaling. the paper and tobacco crackled and the ember took. quinn's eyes flicked up to them, the green in her hazel eyes brighter in her purple ensemble. "you're attracted to anything you can't have, link..." the blonde answered after exhaling a stream of smoke. at least, that was her running theory, if it were true to begin with. "who's hiding?"
kitkallberg·:

Of course not followed by Quinn gesturing over her shoulder. Kit didn’t know what to believe. His face crumpled in confusion. “Uhh no,” he answered. “I mean, it was a beach ball so it’s not like I’m injured. It hurt just a bit.” Whoever whacked that ball had some serious fire in their palms. He continued to rub the back of his head for a moment more before dropping his hand to his side. “But uh, hey,” he greeted. “Are you…” Having a good time? No, that wasn’t the right thing to ask. “You’re here,” he decided to say instead. A bit surprised Quinn showed up at all.
—quinn tittered. "no shit, sherlock." you're here. she'd forgotten how completely awkward kit could be. he got away with it, too; a puppy transfigured into a six-foot-something beefcake. if she ever let herself, quinn would miss the friendship they had struck up when he first arrived. but she was quinn morrison and she didn't do that. at least, that's what she told herself. "got to be. what if your girl shows up?" she asked with a bitter rhetoric.
aceofportsmouth·:
He kept smiling. She wouldn’t break his exterior. “Personally, I wouldn’t have put something like this on, but I didn’t know Greer too well. Was she the type to want the party to keep going?” Booker inquired. Greer was still an enigma to him. Despite nothing being revealed by her, their brief encounters were memorable. Her cousin surely knew her better than he did. “She seemed cool. Were you both close?” Booker didn’t have any cousins, but he would like to think if he did they would be close.
quinn shrugged. "she is the type, to be honest, but greer's never exactly been known for making the best decisions." at least to anyone who could think independently of the golden girl's influence, she thought to herself. "and we are. we were. well, as close as any relatives around the same age could be. we grew up together, went to the same schools, spent breaks with our family. i think we just eventually grew up to be very different people with very different interests." the blonde touted the same vague answers everybody knew to the stranger.

He was already annoyed. That much he was certain, was obvious in the way he’d kept to himself almost the entirety of the night. He didn’t want to be bothered anymore than he wanted to get in this fight tonight. But neither of which seemed to be his choice when he found himself coming face to face with none other than their golden girl herself’s cousin. Quinn Morrison. Someone initially he really liked to believe he would have gotten along with. Intellectually he could appreciate just about anyone who seemed smart enough to keep up with him. But her personality? In comparison it was like nails on a chalk board. If he wasn’t afraid of getting in two arguments that evening he’d have passed her on all together. But he decided against being rude when she stopped in front of him. “Quinn..” He started, not quite willing to make eye contact with her. “Didn’t expect you to want to be at something like this.” He suggested, glancing down to finally meet her gaze. He wasn’t sure how the hell he’d handle a party thrown by a missing relative but it sure as hell seemed like one he’d wish to avoid himself.
quinn was bored and that was bad news for everyone. a middle child, and a spoiled one at that, her reflexive reaction was to start pushing the buttons of whoever she could find as entertainment. even better if there was already bad blood there. she spotted carew in the standing crowd and made a beeline. quinn didn't have a particular dislike for the junior. far from it; she found his mind, and looks, attractive. what she did have was an awareness that she ground his gears for whatever reasons... it wasn't like he made a secret of it. while she theorised he actually secretly enjoyed their back and forth, quinn knew she was mostly in this for herself. she stared up at him until he looked back. "i don't. but what would the masses say if i didn't come?"
ironlvngs·:
at her response, he holds his hand up to his heart, acting out as though he was pulling a dagger out of his chest, with a grin painted on his lips. he could tell that quinn never trusted him — she was a smart girl, and it didn’t surprise him that she chose not to trust him. but the suspicion grew when greer disappeared, and it got him beginning to wonder if she thought he had anything to do with that.
he reaches out his pack of cigarettes, gesturing for her to take one. “ be my guest. i’m curious to see what trick that is — all of mine are limited to dorm room tricks, i’m afraid. ”
"i doubt that." she added while walking over, taking a cigarette from the pack offered. quinn gestured for link to follow her and began leading them away from the main set of lockers and around the corner to a fully tiled shower area. there were some cubicles adjacent to the wall, for those who craved privacy, and for those who didn't; a typical offering of an open rectangle of densely packed riser rails. she twisted their dials one by one, being careful not to get splashed, and turned back to link with a cheeky smile before sitting in the middle of the short curb that acted as a dam for the run-off. "blow your smoke towards the running water. it dissipates it before it can reach the alarm out there and stops the smell from clinging."

Bonk! The impact of whatever that was knocked Kit’s head forward, the sudden movement uncomfortable on his neck. “Ow…” From the sound of the thump, he was guessing what assaulted him was one of those beach balls people were throwing around. His hand sought the place where it struck, fingers rubbing at the base of his skull. Who the heck? He turned around. A look of surprise bloomed on his features when he saw who the culprit was. Or at least strongly might have been. “Quinn, was that you?” Even under the influence of something, Kit knew to be doubtful. Quinn wasn’t exactly the type after all.
she blinked incredulously in response to kit's query and then, for dramatic effect, turned to look behind herself while laying her palm over her sternum. "who — me?" the blonde continued, "of course not." being the ever-confident liar she was, quinn took the hand from her chest and used it to point behind her shoulder. "i'm sure it came from over there. are you injured?"

Someone else may have winced at the sound of the beach ball smacking into someone’s head, but Mari just glanced over, apathetically watching the ensuing reactions. She sipped from her drink, just barely resisting the urge to roll her eyes at the over-dramatics - it was a beach ball, after all - her eyes returning to the person who had hit it at the muttered curse word. Quinn, of course. Mari was somewhat surprised to see her there, the relationship between Quinn and Greer….not great, to those who were aware, at least. Which, since Mari had been, definitely affected her own relationship with Quinn. The sorority rivalry only added to the bitter air between them. “Nice aim,” Mari said, shaking her hair back from her face a little bit. “They probably deserved it.”
quinn quickly turned away, brushing down her purple shirt in an attempt to obfuscate responsibility. her eyes flicked up. of course, it had to be mari. she would have clearly seen quinn's little social faux pas. her head cocked to the side. "i'm not captain of the championship-winning volleyball team for nothing," she couldn't resist tempting their usual competitiveness. "but thanks. i guess you have an eye for some things at least."

“I mixed it myself,” Parisa confirmed, almost as though she could read Quinn’s mind. She didn’t trust people she didn’t know to make her drinks at an event like this. “It’s… good but maybe a bit too sweet for my tastes, I should’ve probably gone with seltzer instead of Sprite,” she reviewed, savoring the flavor of lemons and pomegranate nonetheless. “Not like pina coladas are an option here,” she muttered, wondering when non-drinkers were going to have their time to thrive at college parties.
Snickering as Quinn talked about her cousin’s power of persuasion, Parisa shook her head. “I’m not ridiculously opposed to going in, but also not intending on it. I spent a little too long doing my hair and makeup to let it get messy, at least this early.” Curly tendrils framed Parisa’s face, with her dark tresses styled in its usual updo. “Plus, I much prefer the ocean to pools. Saltwater is sticky, but still more refreshing than chlorine. Not like we have great beaches up here anyway, but still I’m more of a resort pool girl than a… college competitive pool girl.” Even Parisa’s family’s pool in California was saltwater - not that she swam in it much.
"i don't see the point in any of it," she admitted. quinn had never been one for the water. "but if you do end up in there, please scrub hard after and don't come crying to me if you catch norovirus from the human soup." she finished her drink. parisa was right, it was too sweet. "i have a question for you while i have you here. it's months away, of course, but when the holidays come around i'm sure i'm going to be invited to something formal. i wanted to ask if you'd consider designing a dress for me. paid, of course."

the pill ( or was it more than one ? link couldn’t even remember anymore ) that he’d gotten from ollie earlier was definitely at the forefront right now, and it mixed quite well with the loud music and bodies going in and out of the pool. though, even with that, link knew that he was due for a breather soon — and he was sick and tired of freezing his ass off outside when he goes for a cigarette.
so this time, they opted for another five second hiding spot — the locker rooms. though, there was sincere doubt in his mind that there weren’t a couple people in there already fucking each other. to his luck, though, upon opening the doors, it seemed a bit quiet. that is, until her voice came through just as he shut the door behind him.
link turns around to face her, unable to keep the grin from forming on his lips at her comment. “ i’d follow you through a thousand storms, quinnie, and i’m sure you know that — but following you to a bathroom ? or… locker room, whatever this is. that’s a level of creepy i’d like to stay away from. ” he scoffs, looking up the ceilings, wondering if he could get past the smoke detectors if he smoked in here. “ — and it pains me deeply that you think of me that way. ”
quinn rolled her eyes, albeit as confused as ever internally by link's hyperbole. he had a way of saying the most insincere words in the most genuine, charming way. it made you second guess yourself — which she suspected was exactly how they liked it. "be pained, then." she retorted. in her defence: it was bewildering to have someone flirt with you privately and then lowkey act like you didn't exist with an audience.
she noted the box of cigarettes in their hand. the blonde stood up and stretched her arms in an arc before making link an offer. "lend me a smoke and i'll show you an old private school trick."

Booker recognized the loathing in her eyes. The prickly ones are always the most powerful. While not the queen herself, a Morrison still holds a certain amount of sway. He smiled, choosing to ignore her bad manners. Booker raised his hands in defence. “It was merely a suggestion. I thought a dip might make things more fun.” Or remove that frown went unsaid. Quinn being off by herself was an odd sight at a party as big as this one. Booker never missed an opportunity to schmooze and something told him this would be more difficult than normal. “Not the social type, I see. More of small gathering type?” He questioned.
one eyebrow quirked up. "more of a party-when-appropriate type. my cousin's missing. for all we know, in danger." quinn pulled her sandalled foot out of the way as a small wave rippled through the pool towards them. "it leaves a bad taste in the mouth — no?" she stared at his eyes as if daring him to disagree.

The pool felt amazing. It had been a long since he’d been swimming. It never hurt to get some exercise in so he began doing some laps, dodging any of the other swimmers. He breached the water, shaking the excess of like a dog. Movement caught his eye nearby the ledge. Why weren’t they swimming? Feeling social, Booker swam towards the ledge, propping his arms on the side, looking up at the person. “I think you’re suppose to get in the water at a pool party.” He said with a cheeky grin. “If you need a push, I’m more than willing.”
the closest quinn was getting to the pool was to sit on the edge, staring down her nose at the hullaballoo of her classmates in the water. for all their youthful anarchy she knew if her cousin were to walk through those doors this minute they would all stand to attention like the obedient dogs they were. save a few, perhaps. she was off in her own fault-finding thoughts when she realised one of those very whelps was talking to her. her eyes narrowed. "lay a hand on me and you'll be in a jail cell quicker than you can say attempted assault."

“Here, try this,” Parisa encouraged, passing a cup to Quinn as she sat down next to the blonde. “Sprite, lemonade, and grenadine. I wish these events catered more to us,” she mentioned with a pout, at least glad that Quinn was also interested in mocktails. “You look stunning, by the way. Purple is an excellent choice.” The color of royalty, a subtlety that may have gotten to Greer had she been at her own birthday party. “It’s certainly a choice to have a party on a school night, but I guess Greer would’ve had it no other way. Are you planning on taking a dip in the pool?”
she took the drink but hesitated putting it to her lips, ever wary of accidental spiking, until parisa confirmed its ingredients. the pair often gravitated towards each other at events like this. they both abstained from alcohol and neither asked those irritating questions on the matter of each other. the scent of pomegranate and lemons flirted with quinn’s nose and she took a sip. she thought sprite and lemonade were essentially the same but it tasted pleasant enough.
the blonde got more comfortable against the velvet two seater, not once questioning the mystery of how it ended up in the natatorium. “the birthday girl isn’t here to persuade me,” quinn answered, a little spite in her tone. “so that would be a no. please don’t tell me you are… god knows if anyone’s showered.”

he was supposed to be writing an essay. and usually leaky had no problem with his homework, ecological ethics was actually one of his favorite classes. but it was game day, and it was always harder to concentrate on game day. so there he sat, fake tapping away at his computer at the shared table of the library commons. every sound caught his attention, causing him to look around, trying to catch anyone’s eye to use as an excuse. and finally he decided to give in, leaning toward the other that sat at the table careful keep his voice low cause in all honesty he was a bit afraid of the librarians. “psst, hey, hey.” he tapped his fingers against the wood. “are you going to the game tonight?” he smiled brightly at them.
—she went to take note, recalling part of the passage from the book to her right with her pen and paper to the left, and there it was again. click clack click clack click. the nib stuttered on the page and then stopped before quinn looked up. she reminded her face not to look as exasperated as she felt, hoping the gaze alone would send the message their noise was breaking her concentration. he wasn't looking. of course. quinn put her head down and had just gone back to her work when the other whispered for her attention. she groaned.
"no but i'll cut you a deal. you stop fidgeting for longer than five minutes and i'll go to any game you want."
