don’t care what shade just reblog.
if i see someone describing the readers skin tone ONE MORE TIME
in the past, i had to prepare for several exams by self-studying for long hours at home, so over the years i’ve learned the best ways to adapt to this situation, which i now present in this little infographic. i hope it can ease some of the pressure! 💜

I know I should be working on the asks I received BUT something has come to my attention that is pissing me off. The way people make their books only available for specific race, specific height, specific hair texture and specific weight range.
I am a black girl but I am NOT dark. I am very light due to my mix and I’ve received barely any of my father’s complexion meaning I’m just slightly tan. So I, a person who has listened to black and brown authors and readers talk about the bs that’s produced by probably every NB author here, wil tell you how to be more inclusive.
BLUSHING! Black and brown women DONT get red for obvious reasons that we’re all aware of instead of saying things like :
“ a red/pink tint crept onto her face”
WHY’S THIS WRONG YOU MAY ASK?
Such words create imagery that the person has fair/light skin which is very unfair if you claim to make books for everyone.
Use alternatives like:
“Her face became very heated and a feeling of bashfulness took over emotions”
WHY IS THIS RIGHT?
It does NOT specify ones race or skin tone and instead gives emotion and doesn’t paint imagery of the characters looks which is very important when writing x readers.
HEIGHT! When writing you have to be mindful of girls of all heights because not very girl is like 4’11. Stop writing things like:
“He looked down into her e/c eyes-“ WRONG!
WHY?
You are specifiying that’s she’s short when the characters like 5’9 (I’m 5’2 they would have to look down so I have the privilege)
Instead write:
“He adjusted his gaze to look into her e/c eyes”
WHY IS THIS RIGHT?
I am not specifying wether he looked up,down or cross eyed to look at her am I?
HAIR TEXTURE! I have 4b/4c hair and other girls hair have curls or just textured hair where you cant run a hand through it. Stop writing things like:
“He ran his hands through her hair-‘’ UGH HAVE I TAUGHT YOU NOTHING?!
You’re being specific again! And especially when you in stuff like blonde or dirty brunette or whatever hair shades are called.
Write this instead:
“His hand ran over her nape petting her hair lightly as his hands trailed down to rest a hand on her waist”
IF DIFFERENT ACTION WHY RIGHT?
It doesn’t have anything in the line that will single the reader out because if you write books that are supposed to be for everybody (xreaders) doesn’t need to show any characteristics because you don’t know what the readers look like.
Also don’t always talk about washing hair in fics with showers. You can talk about having freshly washed hair but don’t talk about washing hair in showers.
WEIGHT! There has been a rise in x!chubby readers on this app and Wattpad BUT if you make xreaders and are not specifying wether its for black, chubby and tall readers and its just an xreader and you don’t specify don’t say things like:
“He picked her up with EASE and began to walk around” DICKHEAD-
Sugawara is not going to be picking up a 190lb girl with ease. (Iwaizumi maybe but that’s another convo for another time-)
Say if the character is strong say:
“He hoisted the girl onto his back and began his movements to ( destination)”
Or maybe they are able to pick up a heavy person but YOU NEVER KNOW!
Humans or people with average abilities (injured person perspective):
“He put an arm around his shoulder, wrapping his other arm around the girl’s waist to make it easier for her to lean for support”
If anything I said bothered you its not my fucking problem and you just need to reevaluate yourself- Matta fact just start putting x white! Skinny! Short! Long Haired! Straight Haired ! Reader the folks wont read your shit
“Kanye needs a black woman to sort him out”
I hope lightning comes down, destroys every organ in your body and someone comes and shatters your kneecaps. You have no sense and you will never know peace.
Here's how to help:
Dallas: Dallas Homeless Alliance President and CEO Carl Falconer said donations can be made to Our Calling, who is managing the city’s shelter at the convention center.
Austin: Chris Davis, communications manager for Austin’s Ending Community Homelessness Coalition, or ECHO, said people can find a list of ways to help here. These donations range from sleeping bags to monetary donations for hygiene and snack kits.
San Antonio: South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless Executive Director Katie Vela said their biggest area of need is volunteers to work the overnight shifts, especially those living in the downtown area who might be able to walk to the shelters. Vela also said the shelters are also in need of hot meals beginning Tuesday. People can find the list of shelters here.
Houston: Catherine B. Villarreal, the director of communications for the Coalition for the Homeless, said people can donate to any of the organizations in The Way Home listed here.
