“Come on, come on– Pick up you little shit.”

You pace around your bedroom, holding your cell phone to your ear. You had just placed a chair under the doorknob to prevent any unwanted visitors.

“[Y/N]? Will you be coming out soon?”

You step towards the door and yell to the other side, to the side of pure hell. “I will in a second, just taking a work call! I’ll be out soon, so keep working without me!”

“Alright. Tell me if anything has gone wrong!”

You wait to hear the light steps of his walking away, but the man is a ghost, and you honestly cannot tell if he left or not, but after a “What the hell do you want?” Rings in your ears you genuinely didn’t care.

“Hank, I’m going to fucking die.”

“We’re both detectives that’s not shit you should joke about.”

You start gesturing with your free hand overtly even though no one can see you, “Yeah, and you shouldn’t play Russian Roulette while you’re drunk because you’re loved and appreciated, but we can’t all have what we want huh?”

“Jesus Christ, can we get back to the you dying part?”

“I’m on my sixth date with Connor, we’re spending it at my house-”

“I am not helping you with your strategy to fuck Connor.”

“No- No I am not trying to fuck your son, and if I was, I wouldn’t call you about it.”

“He’s not my son.”

You recoil in shock, with a roll of your eyes you raise your voice,“OH! We do not have time for this argument but GOD I am going to call you angrily and debate you later in the night.”

“Alright, if you’re not here to fight or fuck what are you calling me for?”

“Ok, so as this is our sixth date, it’s Connor’s turn to pick what we do, he said he wanted to just do something quiet at my house, so I go- none the wiser- ‘Ok!’ like a blind fool and he comes to my door, and, and…”

“And?”

“He brought puzzles, Hank.”

“Was this the big reveal?”

“No, for fuckssake– Hank you don’t get it.”

“I truly do not.”

“All the puzzles he brought are scenery puzzles, and the one we’re doing now is fucking 90% ocean, Hank. And the rest is fucking sand.”

Hank groans and grumbles, before mumbling, “Don’t you think that it doesn’t really matter what you do with him it’s just that you’re with the dumbass?”

You pause before throwing your head back with a groan, “God, I hate wholesome Hank when it’s not in my benefit.”

Hank chuckles at that, “Well, that’s ‘two drink’ Hank for you isn’t it?”

“Well, thanks for the advice,” You say while dragging the chair away from the door, “oh, and no roulette, alright?”

You get a groan of agreement before Hank hangs up on you. With a breathing technique to collect your self, you’re back in the living room and off to the races.

“[Y/N], I found that our last puzzle wasn’t very entertaining so I’ve changed to an alternative.”

You look at the new box on the table and see that while it’s still scenic, it’s not all ocean, which is quite the relie–

“This one has uneven edges- so no end pieces! Far more our speed as adult detectives!”

You smile tiredly at his excitement, “Well pour those pieces out, I’ll be right back!” You got up and walk to the kitchen.

“Where are you going?”

“Pouring myself a drink.”

‘Two drink’ [Y/N] sounds really good at the moment.
