Whump Prompts: Drowning

Whumper’s fingers twisting far too tight into Whumpee’s hair, ripping some loose as Whumpee thrashes under the water.

“Theeeeere you go. Cough it all up. Very good. Okay, now take a deep breath for me. Deeper. There.”

The slow-motion thrashing. Panic building as Whumper has to fight against the water.

“I thought you’d make it at least a full minute. How disappointing. How about we try again?”

Water burning like fire in Whumpee’s sinuses. Pushing against the backs of their eyes. Like frostbite and fire in their lungs.

Whumpee’s eyes wide and frantic under the water. But is it pure water? Or salt? Is there soap? How baldly does it burn their eyes? Tears streaming down their face for hours after, trying to flush out the dry, burning pain.

“Why do you look so scared, pet? It’s just a bath. You don't think I'd hurt you, do you?"

A classic - a whumpee who has been desperately swimming again. They come to a stop, treading water, panting, looking frantically around them. The moment they start to relax, a hand/jaws/rope/whatever clamps down on their ankle, dragging them under before they have the chance to scream.

Darkness. Just darkness seeping in. Is it from the water? Or are their eyes washing over?

Each breath aching and burning after Whumpee coughed up all the water. It feels like there’s still more. There’s always more.

Whumper helpfully patting Whumpee’s back, helping them cough it all up before shoving them under again.

“Are you really going to die like that? In two inches of water. That would be really pathetic of you, don’t you think?”

Drowning in a lake. Whumpee’s fingers clutching at the muck and green, slimy plants, desperately trying to push away, but falling back into the slippery rocks time after time as their vision fades into dark.

Whumpee thrashing against hands at their neck, having no idea how is holding them down. Their face is distorted and blurred by the warped and rushing water between them.

Unconventional drowning, but can we get a shoutout for water-boarding? Thanks.

Whumpee trapped in the brig of a sinking ship. Clawing at the wood and iron bars, screaming for help as everyone scrambled out in a frenzy, not caring to let them out.

“N-no please. I - I can’t. I. I can’t. I can’t br-breathe. Please. No - nnn-NO!”

Whumper shoving Whumpee back under the water without giving them the time to take a full, gasping breath.

Drowning in the ocean. Each wave crashing fresh over their face, giving them just enough air to stay conscious. But how long can they hold on before it’s too much?

That last, desperate gasp of air before they are forced under the water without warning.

Whumper just holding Whumpee tight as they drag them down down down - confident that Whumpee’s panic will ensure they run out of air first.

"Go on, just breathe it in. There's no need to fight me. You're just delaying the inevitable."

Whumpee tied down as the water slowly rises around them. Jerking against their restraints until blood from their wrists dances through the rushing water.

A recovering Whumpee panicking whenever they get too close to a river or when Caretaker tries to draw them a bath.

"Aww, are you getting hungry? I thought so. I'll give you one bite for every minute you can stay under. How about that?"

Also, uh, here's some drowning scenes I wrote before? Feel free to pull whatever you want from those as well!! 1, 2, 3 that last one is awful but i guess you can look at it if you want.

The yellow/green/purple are taken from the apl/aro/ace flags respectively, and are more pastel to resemble the unlabeled flag, as these terms are purposely vague.

The off white represents how the individual who identifies with this terms attraction is considered "off".

The pink represents attraction, because I've seen pink be used to represent sexual, romantic, and platonic attraction.

A sense of horror

One of my favorite tropes that I honestly think is pretty underrated is a loved one or an onlooker’s overwhelming sense of horror when they discover what has happened to a protagonist/MC.

Like.. a character stumbling in bleeding and broken—itheir loved one’s dread building and building as they unwrap the layers of mc’s clothing with shaking hands, only to find more and more and more blood— overwhelmed with panic and anguish when they discover just how deep the injuries go.

MC being brought home after a near-disastrous rescue mission, and the caretaker is finally able to get a good look at their injuries in proper lighting, and the horror hits them when they see deep, bloody gashes, whip marks crossing along their back, deep cuts and bruises in various stages of healing, a broken bone jutting out awkwardly at an angle it definitely shouldn’t be, and they’re just so overcome with revulsion and terror and heartache at what mc has had to endure. 

And that whole time, they had no idea. There was nothing they could do, but god they didn’t know it could get this bad. 

An onlooker, struck with a nauseating realization of how twisted some of their companions can be; the guilt of a bystander a weight that grows and grows, as they wrestle with dueling urges to help and to stay silent. (shoutout to @whumpsday for giving us another perfect example of this trope just yesterday)

Or even a villain/whumper, who agreed to participate in the cruelty, at some point down the line becoming too repulsed by the bloodthirst of their own comrades or fellow whumpers, suddenly unable to look anymore, wracked with guilt and disgust and thoughts of ‘god what have I done…’ 

A caretaker, rescuer, or even a new captor obtaining a whumpee who has been so conditioned by their past abuser that it makes their skin crawl. MC asking, begging to be punished at the slightest perceived mistake, or just bringing their new captor or guardian something to beat them with before falling to their knees. Anything that leaves them horrified, wondering ‘what the hell did they do to you’ yet also being too afraid to ask. The “are you my new master” trope may fall under this category and is also just immaculate. 

God I love this trope, whatever you call it.

Whump Tropes: Falling

Whumper catching Whumpee as they trip, tugging them close to themselves as Whumpee tries to squirm away.

Whumper tipping back a chair (which Whumpee is tied to) until it falls backwards. Whumpee’s stomach flips as they fall uncontrollably.

“Do you want me to drop you? No? Then Stop. Struggling.”

Whumpee stumbling, cracking their head against a wall.

Whumpee’s ankle snapping under them as they run. Crumbling to the ground, trying not to scream.

Whumpee reeling back after being punched in the face. Their legs not able to keep up as they stumble and fall backwards.

Whumper holding Whumpee by the collar, tipping them just over the edge of a cliff or tall building. Whumpee knows if they don’t cooperate (or if they struggle), they won’t survive the fall.

“It’s only a fifteen foot drop. Go on. I want to see if your ankles break. If you don’t jump, I’ll just break them myself.”

Whumpee dreaming about falling and falling. Screaming and screaming. The blackness sucking them deeper.

Whumpee tripping as they sprint, frantically trying to get away. How they sprawl forward, the ground ripping into their skin as they roll to a stop.

Whumper dropping Whumpee onto the floor when they squirm too much to carry anymore.

A trembling whumpee skittering backwards, trying to back away from Whumper until they trip over the rug (or whatever) and flail pathetically to the ground before scrambling back.

A Whumpee gasping and clawing at their throat as Whumper chokes them out against the wall. Whumper drops them once they’ve suffered enough, and Whumpee crumbles to the floor, gasping and chocking on air.

Whumpee bound and suspended in mid air suddenly plummeting to the hard ground when Whumper slashes the anchoring rope.

Whumper giving Whumpee a shove at the top of the steps, wanting to see just how many bruises they will get from one flight of stairs. Or more.

A Whumpee trying their best to hop away with their legs tied together. Honestly more funny than whumpy when they teeeeeeter to the side and splat to the ground. At least, Whumper sure thinks it’s quality comedy.

Whumper dumping Whumpee into the bathtub. Whumpee trying not to gasp in shock as they fall, knowing from experience they will have a lung-full of water.

Whumpee gasping, suddenly falling sideways after Whumper swept their feet out from under them.

I'll also note that some of these terms can have multiple names, with the "platonic", "aplatonic", & "apl" part being interchangeable. This isn't applicable to every term though. I also chose not to list everything to try to keep it brief. So for example, greyplatonic can also be called greyaplatonic and greyapl.

﹫GiRLLiKE  —  [ girl - like ]

A gender describing oneself as girllike! Not inherently feminine in nature, but can be — it is up to the user! Girllike can also be used as a suffix for other genders … for example, bpdgirllike ( for when one is or has the qualities of a bpd and being girllike ) or catgirllike ( for when one is or has the qualities of a cat[girl] and being girllike ).

I adore muzzling Whumpees. 

A face mask over a muzzle as Whumper drags Whumpee through a crowded area. Whumpee knows exactly what will happen to them if they make a scene.

The deep red marks on Whumpee’s face as their muzzle is removed for the first time in months. The way they struggle to speak again after days of having it on. The first word they manage to croak out is “water”.

Whumpee refuses to take some kind of pill, so Whumper stuffs it into their mouth and covers their lips with duct tape. Either they swallow willingly or it gets dissolved in their mouth, but they’re taking it.

Whumpee so terrified and hysterical that they can only sob and hyperventilate behind the duct tape, struggling to get enough air without their mouth. All they can do is sob, choking on their own tears and spit.

Whumpee sitting in the bathtub as Caretaker carefully tries to remove the duct tape wrapped around Whumpee’s head. They whisper apologies whenever Whumpee flinches.

Rescuers not having enough time to un-muzzle Whumpee. They just pick the bound and silenced Whumpee up and run. 

Whumpee only being able to communicate through muffled grunts through their muzzle, but still desperately trying to communicate with Caretaker.

Fun Little Ways to Remind Whumpee of Who They Belong to!

The good ol' branding! Never fails! Extra fun if you have to remove the previous whumper's brand first!

The Artistic Whumper™'s Tattooing! Is it somewhere easily visible or is it somewhere slightly hidden? Did whumper have to remove whumpee's previous tattoos?

Collars! Yes!! Can never get enough! Do they have bells in them so that whumpee can't sneak around? Of course we have the excellent shock collars! Do they have a tracking chip that whumper may or may not let whumpee know about? Is it so tight that it reminds whumpee of its existence with their every breath? Or is it loosely hung around their neck as a casual reminder?

Changing whumpee's name? How quickly does whumpee accept it? What does whumper have to do to make them accept it? By the end of their conditioning, does whumpee remember their original name or not? Does whumper give whumpee their surname? Do they get a human name Or do they simply get a set of numbers and/or letters?

Changing whumpee's appearance? Whumpee with dyed hair watching their hair grow so much in captivity that the dye is only on the ends now? Or does whumper dye their hair a different colour? Or does whumper simply cut most of it off? Alternatively, whumper having short haired whumpee grow long hair because they love pulling it around? Defiant short haired whumpee cutting their hair off to rebel? And that's just hair! Clothing? Whumpee who loves fashion being forced to wear bland clothes or clothes they don't like? Whumpee who loves simplicity being forced to be decorated by whumper or forced to decorate themself according to whumper's standards? So! Much! More!
