Started rereading the Hunger Games series and I feel like it’s so overlooked how in 74th and 75th Hunger Games, we don’t know every Tribute’s names, with Katniss only referring to them by their District numbers but in TBOSAS, we knew every single Tribute by name. We associated them with the clothes they wore on the Reaping Day and Suzanne even goes so far as to describe how they looked, however briefly. We see these Tributes and we’re familiarized with them by the little tidbits provided to the mentors and to Snow and Lucy Gray. But we never get this in the original trilogy.

In two generations, President Snow alienated the Districts from each other so much that Katniss didn’t even care to know all the names of the Tributes sent into the Arena with her, with the exception being those who posed great risk against her safety and those she felt great compassion for (e.g. Cato, Thresh, Rue, Mags, Betee, Wiress etc.). Katniss even went so far as to call the D6 Tributes in the 75th Hunger Games morphlings, for their affinity to imbibe in the drugs that help them forget their own traumas (an incredibly hurtful description, in my own opinion, to be known by the qualities you hate the most about yourself). We never know the real name of the 74th D5 girl, with Katniss only referring to her as Foxface and we don’t even know Marvel’s name until we get to the second book and he was Katniss’ first personal kill. Katniss even kills the D4 girl in the books with the same tracker jacker venom that killed Glimmer and yet still, we don’t know her name. We are so removed from the identity of the other Tributes that we don’t even know what some of them looked like beyond brief descriptions of mangled bodies and dead Tributes in the bloodbath at the Cornucopia.

And, the thing is, Suzanne established the importance of names in the series. Even in real life, we recognize the importance of being named. It is a fundamental aspect of being human. If you’re ever in a perilous situation where a person might be placing your life in danger, we’re told to remind the person that you’re human. “Keep saying your name, how old you are, where you came from. Remind them you are a human being just like them.” Before any propaganda can work against a group of people, refusing to recognize a person’s name is the first step to dehumanization. And just like the people of the Districts, we don’t care enough about the other Tributes to even want to know their names. Their propaganda worked on us, the readers.

In two generations, President Snow completely wiped out any sense of familiarity and camaraderie the Districts may have shared with the other. In two generations, Snow sowed the seeds of distrust and division into the Districts so deeply that even we, the readers, were affected by the effects of Capitol propaganda. In two generations, the Districts ceased to genuinely care about the others beyond the vague sense of injustice they feel for their shared plight. It’s why Career Districts don’t seem to care about killing the other Tributes. How can you care, to show your compassion and humanity, when you can barely see them as people? Yes, they may have been in the Arena with you. Yes, they may have been starved and beaten and forced into labor like you were. Yes, they might be children just like you. Yes, they might be subjected to the same deplorable system that turned you into virtual slaves. But they are not your friends. They are not your allies. They are strange, with different customs and traditions that you have. You do not share the same values. They do not care about you. At the first chance they get, they will kill you with your bare hands and they will do it with alacrity if it meant their survival. There can only be one Victor and it can’t be them. It has to be you.

The Victor’s purge is absolutely something that just blows my mind.

The Capitol propaganda against Victors were so effective, even the very people fighting for their freedom turned on them.

During the events of TBOSAS, we learn that the first 10 winners of the Hunger Games received no compensation for their participation in the games. Why would they? They’re nobodies. Reminders of a war that had forced the people of the Capitol to turn on each other, forcing them into such desperate lengths that they had to resort to eating other people just to survive. They were not celebrated like the Victors we recognize in the 75th Hunger Games. They were not victors but survivors. In fact, we learn that not many people wanted to watch the Hunger Games in the beginning. It left a bitter taste in a person’s mouth to watch children fight to the death and have the event sensationalized, even if the child is considered the enemy.

And yet, with Victors being placed on a pedestal after the events of TBOSAS, we saw how quickly the Victors were woven into the Capitol’s society.

Upon winning, Victors were alienated in their own Districts. They were given beautiful mansions, fed three square meals a day, and their families wanted for nothing. They became mentors, becoming active participants in the very Games designed to kill members of their own Districts. Their participation may have been forced but when you smile and wave at cameras and show off your new found wealth, it’s hard to believe you didn’t want these things.

Victors are even further alienated outside of their own Districts with the Victor’s parade. A whole week of traveling through the 12 districts to show off your vitality and strength and your life, the very thing you took from the other tributes in order to survive. Victors did not need to drip themselves with jewels to offend the other Districts, their survival was insult enough. Never mind that you didn’t want to kill these kids. Never mind that you are a child yourself.

Every place you turn, you’re met with jealousy, derision and contempt. No longer the perfect quintessential victim but a killer of children who “benefitted” from the very system designed to oppress you. By winning the Hunger Games you are no longer District.

So you turn to the one place that showers you with any hint of adoration.

Ingratiating themselves into the Capitol’s society cemented their identity as Other. They may live in the Distrcts, may be forced to subject themselves in horrors that are far worse than any modicum of starvation they faced in the Districts, but they are no longer one of them.

And so the Rebels forget who exactly they’re fighting for, forgot who actually experienced the horror they could only dread.

Yes, they are fighting against their own oppression. Yes, they fight for their child’s right to live and never play in the Games. But they forget about the 59 other Victors who actually went through the horrors they’re fighting against. They forget about the biggest victims of the system they are fighting against.

Snow alienated Victors from the rest of the Districts so much that of the surviving 59 Victors before the events of Mockingjay, only 7 come out alive.

7 out of 59.

There’s not even enough of them to distribute one to every district.

The biggest victims of the Capitol’s oppression also became the biggest victims of the rebel’s war.

I want to put focus on how significant parents are in the Hunger Games franchise, most especially on the role a parent has in shaping their child’s psyche and I want to do this by using Katniss, Peeta and Snow as reference.

In the books and the movies, parents are more or less background characters. We truly only see glimpses of them. Both of Peeta’s parents are alive yet we rarely see them featured prominently in the books/movies. Both of Snow’s parents are dead and we only get to hear of them in passing and while Mrs. Everdeen is alive, she’s often relegated to the background because of how dismissive Katniss is towards her mother.

Yet these characters and the very essence of their beings are shaped by their parents.

Beginning with Katniss, we saw how deeply her father’s death wounded her. He was their provider, the sole person responsible for bringing food onto their table. We know how deeply he was loved by his children and his wife and how beloved he was by the other citizens of 12 by Katniss’ stories. Mr. Everdeen was a well known figure in the Hobb and Katniss firmly believed that it was because of him that people took pity on her and allowed her to bargain with them. It was his death that served as a catalyst to Katniss’ journey to becoming a Victor. Without his death, without Katniss being forced to hunt to serve her family, she wouldn’t have made it out of the arena. To Katniss, her father was the hero deserving of being placed on a pedestal and it was his values and actions that she tried desperately to emulate to protect her family.

On the other hand, Katniss scorned her mother. She hated Mrs. Everdeen’s inaction when she spiraled into a deep depression after her husband died. And though it wasn’t Mrs. Everdeen’s fault, I can’t blame Katniss for feeling this way about her mother. She and her sister were near the brink of death by starvation on the day she met Peeta. Even when Mr. Everdeen was alive, Katniss was partial to her father because he stoked the rebellion in Katniss’ heart while it was her mother who tried to stop it. Katniss perceived her mother’s depression as a weakness and even after she got better, Katniss was determined to keep her at arms length. The love she felt for her mother may have been unconditional but she constantly put her mother under the test. Waiting to see if she would disappoint her, fail her by abandoning her once again. And when Prim died and Mrs. Everdeen left for District 4, Katniss’s unconscious bias against her mother was once again reaffirmed.

It’s why Katniss struggles to form a good bond with motherly characters like Effie but maintains relatively good relationships with fatherly figures like Haymitch and Cinna. Katniss openly admits that of the two people who guided them throughout the Hunger Games, it was Haymitch she was most alike. They grew up at the Seam, and shared similar features and she was adamant that should she have been forced into becoming a mentor like Haymitch was, she was looking at what her future would have looked like. Drunk and continuously intoxicated like Haymitch was.

On the other hand, we have Peeta.

Peeta was routinely abused by his mother. While we don’t know the full extent of what it was he had to endure, we know that it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Peeta’s mother took pride in the knowledge that District 12 would finally have another Victor, and she wasn’t referring to Peeta. We saw him take a beating to feed Katniss and whatever relationship Peeta had with his father was practically nonexistent. It was his mother that served to be the looming presence in his life the same way Katniss’ father haunted her. It’s why I believe Peeta got along so well with Effie and why Effie likely preferred Peeta over Katniss. Aside from the fact that Peeta was so much more civil to Effie than Katniss was to Effie, Peeta always deferred to Effie. He and Effie are similar in the same way Katniss and Haymitch are similar.

Peeta was characterized to be of the merchant class, the “upper” class of District 12. As a given, Effie is from the Capitol, the upper crust of Panem. It was Effie who provided Katniss and Peeta with the script necessary to ensure their survival after the 74th Games and in return, Effie knew how effectively a person’s image and reputation could mean life and death in the arena and in this, Peeta is in agreement. While Katniss may have used a bow as a weapon, Peeta used his words. He always knew the right things to say and do to get people to side with him, so much so that he managed to convince the careers of the 74th Games, his biggest enemies in the arena, to ally with him. Had anyone else been in his situation, they would have been killed. Peeta craved Effie’s maternalism the same way Katniss craved Haymitch’s paternalism because these were the things they lacked growing up.

And then there’s Coriolanus, who lost both his parents and it is both of these parents who haunt him. His mother, described to be beautiful and kind, was represented by the powder compact he kept with him constantly. His father, harsh and cruel, represented by the handkerchief that Snow kept with him.

In TBOSAS, Snow has two mentors himself.

Dean Highbottom and Dr. Gaul.

It’s not lost on me that in them, the characterization of the two are reversed from Snow’s parents. Highbottom, like Snow’s father is stern and harsh. He is Snow’s biggest critic and while I doubt Mr. Snow would go so far as to hate his own child, he would not have been kind to Coriolanus had he lived past the war. Yet Highbottom and Mr. Snow’s similarities end there. Because of Highbottom’s remorse and the kindness that he showed Lucy Gray after she won the Games, he takes after Snow’s mother in that regard. He is compassionate and filled with horror at the abomination he created.

On the other hand, Gaul treats Snow with a gentleness that Highbottom never had for him. Though Snow finds Gaul creepy, it is Gaul that takes him under his wing. It is Gaul who stitches up his wounds after he is attacked in the arena and retrieves Sejanus and Gaul who praises him for his ingenuity at suggesting the sponsoring system. Gaul genuinely likes Snow and begins grooming him to become her replacement in the event that she dies. But while Gaul may have been a woman with the capacity for gentleness, she is a terrible human being who threw children into the arena to fight for their survival. She is the same woman who hung a child for running away from the games and paraded the corpses of children on the streets of the Capitol. She is pure evil. She is exactly like Snow’s father.

It isn’t loss on me that Snow, who has an abundance of maternal figures in his grandmother and Tigris, chooses to take after Gaul, who is externally like his mother but internally like his father, rather than Highbottom, who is the opposite.

At every instance Snow had to do good, to choose to do the right thing and be like his mother, he intentionally continued to do the evil thing for the sake of his selfishness and be like his father.

“You look just like your father, Coriolanus.” Were the words Tigris used to describe him at the end of the movie because that is precisely who he chose to become.

And as Snow poisons Highbottom and becomes a gamemaker under Gaul’s tutelage, he kills whatever remnant of his mother he had left in him, fully embodying his cruel father’s ideals.

The first set of duels all involve seeking a return to a comfortable stagnation or projection. The character has left a state that they wish to return to. The second set all involve seeking to reject the current surrounding world for one that matches their desires. The third set of duels is finally closest to the truth of what 'Revolutionizing the world' is - seeking to prove a change exists in the perception of the duelists - that a level of maturity has been reached and the duelist has grown up - but this change only occurs upon the duelist losing the duel. Without the loss all the third duel accomplishes is the completion of a Rotation on the Revolution. The duelists seek ‘adulthood’ in the belief that doing so will grant them the power to continue to exist unchanged even in new circumstances. Revolution has two meanings within the narrative - a break from stagnant conditions or states, and the completion of a cycle that returns to the start - like a carousel’s spin.

I think that the power to Revolutionize the World that all the characters fight for in Revolutionary Girl Utena is primarily a power to change oneself and break free of the eternal revolution offered by Ohtari and embodied by Akio. Part 1/2 - Mikage & the Black Rose Duelists, Saoinji, Miki, and Juri.

Nanami post link

Black Rose

Mikage in the Black Rose arc keeps trying to kill the Rose Bride and win the power of Dios, but he fails every time since every duelist he chooses is attempting to Reject the world and revolutionize it based upon changing other people. A miracle achieved though sacrificing other people - they pull their swords from others and bear the rose crests of others.

The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character
The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character

Mikage and the duelists are working on an entirely flawed premise - so each duel ends with another corpse in the crematorium and another chick that failed to break their shell and a return to status quo. Each person dueling is attempting to seek a revolution entirely defined by the perceptions or actions of others - Kaene wants Anthy’s judgement of her (perceived or not) gone. Wakaba wants others to look at her as special (especially Saionji). Kozue wants to protect Miki's innocence, but she also keeps wanting to taint it - her sweet love towards her sibling has turned curdled and she also wants to return to the 'Sunlit Garden'- so everyone who can taint it needs to go. Shiori wants to 'Win' over Juri because she can't believe in Juri's feelings in their clash with her abysmal self-worth and she can't accept her own feelings towards Juri. Tsuwabuki wants to be perceived as an adult and grow up already - though he isn't sure what it entails. Keiko wants to know Touga, and perhaps it is a plain desire common to most of Ohtori, but it’s not one that can be fulfilled while she is the lowest girl on the totem pole and Nanomi is in the way. Mikage himself seeks connection but the person he wants to connect to is terminally ill - so in the ultimate conclusion of this theme of rejecting the world he is seeking Eternity in these memories and reliving the past literally - he is a trapped ghost in a burned down building. The one person rejected is the Onion Prince boy whose basal confession is that he believes the problem is in him - not others.

Saionji

Saionji wants his status symbol back and to have something special that his 'friend' Touga doesn't have and Utena confronts him in revenge for her friend Wakaba first and revenge for Anthy's treatment once she is already committed - later episodes make it clear Wakaba still loves Saionji so it is doubtful that she would have wanted the duel in her honor. As Saoinji scoffingly points out - Utena is the archetypical prince protecting the honor of princesses here. Saionji's 'revolution' is related primarily to his status in the system - without Anthy as his rose bride he is no longer special - just an average upperclassman. His second duel is much the same because despite his belief that he has changed - he utterly fails to articulate 'how' and no other character can even notice how or if he is different. He still seeks to possess the Rose Bride as a status symbol of being 'an Adult' and gaining something that designates him as special - most specifically in regard to Touga. He is the only 2nd time duelist that comes without their own Rose Bride. He's not fighting with his own power/strength of will at all. He's repeating lines said by Touga in the first set of duels, Saioinji is an imitation of an imitation, and it's not very surprising he missed the memo on the change in duel format.

But he seems to have found the route start for the process of growing anyways after being beaten again. Refuting Touga in his desire to be like Akio and accurately pointing out the central premise of Ohtari. He repeats with Touga there is no such thing as True Friendship- but it is still evident that his relationship with Touga only improves again after they fail to complete their revolutions on Akio’s stage.

Miki

Miki wants to recapture his “sunlight garden” through Anthy. He is seeking a return to a state which was simple and joyful for him and believes if he can possess Anthy then he can return to that state. Of course, this simple state in his memory doesn't exist. He loses the duels both times because his illusion of how things were was shattered - first by realizing Anthy was cheering for Utena - she was not an empty vessel for his fantasy, second by realizing that both his sister and Anthy had elements of 'adulthood' - he thinks that he is ready to 'get dirty to get what he wants' in regards to maturing his relationship with Anthy and finally the stability and strength to make his place in the world secure. Both he and Kozue wants to have the strength to return to the Sunlight Garden, but only Kozue seems prepared to grab the power to hold the illusion together - in which case she chose an excellent model. Akio is a professional in the art of maintaining an illusion.

The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character

Miki ultimately seeks to return to simpler times because he feels estranged in the present - a chick without a home.

The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character
The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character

The problem is that his Sunlight Garden is a fragile thing since it is only a facade. Kozue seeks to grant her brother the power of 'Revolution' and take him to the 'world of adulthood' but his sword is still a 'child's sword'. Realizing that he can't return to the past he sought the ability to create a comfortable present - but he can't follow-through with the 'adulthood' embodied by Akio and complete his revolution on the carousel. Perhaps his Revolution requires him to stop trying to fit himself to the dichotomy of either a powerful prince ‘who takes what he want’ or an innocent and pure child ‘who has what’s his taken’ since no such thing as a 'pure prince' who exists without subjecting others or getting subjugated. Perhaps hope exists, he does know a friend or two who also don't fit comfortably into the defined archetypes of princess or prince.

The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character

Juri

The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character

I understand Juri's issue in regard to her personal coffin - but I'm not actually sure the motivations behind her duels with Utena or what she is hoping to achieve. Juri's issue is that she doesn't believe in miracles (Shiori returning her feelings) but she really wants to believe in miracles (She can't give up her feelings for Shiori anyways). Her issue with miracles is "Believe in miracles and they will know your feelings" In this context, her duel with Utena is triggered by Utena telling how her Rose Crest links her to her 'Prince'. The parallel between miracles is the power to bring about connections - Juri challenges Utena to show her proof that her miracle - she will be led to her prince through her ring - is real while the camera focuses straight on Juri's locket - linking the two symbols. Juri believes there is no hope of her feelings or her being accepted if she communicates them to Shiori.

The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character

If she wins, she can continue to deny miracles exist while secretly hoping they exist - being engaged to the Rose Bride who is said to grant miracles - quietly locked into believing her feelings can’t be expressed. Losing - she still refuses to say out loud she believes in miracles - but it is still clear she is less hostile to the idea they can happen.

Juri's second duel starts with coercion - her anguish on seeing Shiori's humiliation and obsession with Ruka/Juri is outweighing her anguish on the uncrossable distance between Juri's feelings and Shiori despite their reciprocity. Ruka seems to love Juri and knows Juri loves Shiori and that Shiori can't and won't reciprocate with her issues, Juri loves Shiori but will neither reach out nor give up, Shiori loves Juri but refuses to believe that she is worthy so she must make Juri hate her. Juri and Ruka seem to share the idea - it's fine if they hate me as long as they are free from this toxic debasement that they are trapped in. Juri's growth hinges on accepting she shouldn't sacrifice herself for the sake of Shiori's miracle - love doesn't justify abuse. It is only by losing Shiori’s locket and letting her feelings (and fears) lay bare that Juri can break away in a new direction from the interruption into her cycle instead of a repeat of her past misfortune with Shiori.

The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character
The First Set Of Duels All Involve Seeking A Return To A Comfortable Stagnation Or Projection. The Character

It seems that Ruka succeeds in his goal of letting Juri move on from her obsession with Shiori - though to what degree he intended anything is ambiguous since he goes and dies afterwards. Juri can accept letting Shiori leave her locket and accept it doesn’t need to require her suffering to love Shiori. Unrequited (or believed to be) love can be left to grow wistful - instead of a constant thorn in the heart. Juri has been given a direction to go for when she is ready to Revolutionize her world. She can still love Shiori, but she can't keep letting the rose parasite use its venom.

i do literally think keeping jonghyun’s memory alive and loved and sacred is one of the most important things in the world, and i don’t care how silly that sounds. i need the world to never forget how bright and wonderful, how funny, heartfelt and genius he was, how important it is to remember him and honor everything he’s done and everything he was to us and to his family. how this love is the most beautiful and cherished thing and how it keeps the world go round. every year, i miss him so much more. every year, i think that the sheer love for him only grows and increases and doubles in size to the year prior. everything he’s ever touched is drenched in all the love he held inside of him, and now we carry that love into the universe with every little piece of him he left behind; whether it be in songs, in words, in pictures or videos, or smiles and tears. in all the little reassurances he gave us, and that he gave himself. and i hope that everyone can find some strength in those words and in that love and that they remember that there will always, always be a tomorrow. god. i love you so much. i miss you every day like crazy. i talk to the moon and thank him for his kindness. this world is so much brighter thanks to you. i hope you rest peaceful and easy and light and in all the love the world continues to give you.

homez18 replied to your post “Bravo to your Katsuki is not allowed to be weak (if he is he dies)…”

Eh. The slidhe villain attack made sense considering there legit wasmt anything those heroes could have done to save him. Except for all Might who didn’t want to exert himself until another kid was about to die

List of things the 6+ adult fully fledged pro-heroes could’ve done in the 10-30 minutes they were fucking around while a 14 year old was being murdered in front of them:

Kamui Woods grabs Katsuki by the wrists (so he can’t explode his way out), Backdraft blasts the sludge villain off with bursts of water. It wouldn’t have been perfect, but it could’ve seriously helped. Especially when he’s already been fighting for ages and they don’t have any better options.

Literally any of the heroes could’ve done what Deku did, but on a much larger and more effective scale. They could’ve attacked the eyes of the sludge villain and used their damn hands to scoop as much of the guy off as possible. Again, might not work perfectly, but better than standing there and not doing fucking anything while a 14 year old is fighting for his life.

Mt. Lady said she couldn’t help because it was ‘a single lane road’ and she couldn’t get down it. Fucking fine, have literally any one of the assholes standing around doing nothing move Katsuki or tell Katsuki to move out into the wide open space next to her so she can help! She could very easily scrape large parts of the sludge villain off of Katsuki, with minimal risk to her since she’s too large for the sludge villain to take over.

Death Arms could’ve fucking tried knocking the sludge villain off. Maybe he can’t do all of it like All-Might could, but again, anything is better than nothing and could be the difference between life or death if it buys Katsuki enough time for someone else to get there.

Even barring all the physical actions the heroes could’ve taken, at bare fucking minimum, they could’ve at least tried to talk to Katsuki. He could hear them. They could’ve offered him reassurance / advice / let him know help was on the way. Literally anything but leaving him all on his own.

Deku by all means shouldn’t have gotten involved, as he was a child and it was not his job to try to save Katsuki. That being said, he still did more to save him than literally any of the non-All-Might heroes on the scene.

Speaking of All-Might, while I understand he has his limits on what he can do, he also started this entire damn thing. The Sludge Villain was just stealing a purse, which isn’t great but isn’t life threatening, when All-Might decided to go after him. He escalated the situation, took responsibility for it despite knowing he was near his limits, and then fucked up. While Izuku shouldn’t have grabbed onto him / startled him, All-Might also totally failed to keep track of the villain he’d apprehended. He started this entire thing, and Katsuki was literally a 14 year old about to die in front of him because of it. That should’ve been enough for him to risk doing something on it’s own.

I also promise you if it’d been literally any other 14 year old (ie, just like we saw with Izuku) All-Might wouldn’t have hesitated to save them.

Can you imagine All-Might standing there while a 14 year old Kirishima was being strangled to death in front of him? What about a 14 year old Mina? Even if Mina or Kirishima was kinda fighting back, but still being suffocated, can you honestly see and justify All-Might / all the other involved heroes, just standing back and not trying to do something while these children are murdered in front of them?

tl;dr: The heroes had options and they actively chose to be useless. They weren’t helpless, they were complacent in forcing a 14 year old to fight for his life with no assistance.

Bravo to your Katsuki is not allowed to be weak (if he is he dies) post. That’s actually why I sometimes have to take a break from reading fanfics we’re adults berate him for his mindset and for not coming forward and handling the fall outs of these incidents himself. Bc canon shows us Katsuki was never offered the chance, was never viewed that way. It isn’t just his pride hindering him, it is the world that continues to fail him. And he doesn’t fault the world for it -he fights to protect it.

You know what bothered me about the Licensing Exam / Provisional Training Arc?

Katsuki fails his exam because of the rescue aspect. He fails because he doesn’t go help people and focuses on trying to fight the villain instead. He assumes those people will get themselves to safety, and he’s punished for that.

But isn’t that exactly what’s been done to him, time and time again? No wonder he thinks that’s how a hero is supposed to behave, that’s how heroes have always behaved towards him. 6 pro heroes, “good” pro heroes showed up to the Sludge Villain fight. Nobody did shit to save him, and they forced/expected him to it handle on his own for ages until Izuku got involved and All-Might saved them both.

The kidnapping was even worse. There were, what, ten pros involved? Not low ranking pros either, these were all supposed to be the best of the best.

And once again, none of them do shit to save him.

The heroes break into the bar, they get the villains restrained, and then... they just pause. All-Might was literally right there. Gran Torino was right there. Either of them, fuck, anyone could’ve grabbed Katsuki and gotten him the hell out of the bar. That’s absolutely what they should’ve done. Their priority should’ve been getting the child whose been kidnapped for 2 days now, off the battlefield and to a safe location. But it wasn’t, and they didn’t.

I’m not saying Katsuki should’ve passed his exam, he shouldn’t have, but god, I’m a bit miffed that it’s never really acknowledged/dealt with that Katsuki was only mimicking the way he’s been treated by a dozen or so pros.

The double standard is something I want to explore at some point. Not just about the rescue aspect, but also stuff like the sports festival. I’ve got a few vague ideas for it, and it’s gonna show up in the forced family au in a few forms, but I’m still not sure exactly how I wanna tackle it.

Shigaraki, despite his claims of hatred for hero society, and calling out some of the oppression inherent in the system, is, in fact, no different in his actions. He performatively attempts to be better, but his entire arc is one of replicating abuse rather than making any meaningful attempt to change the system he laments. The clearest example of this is during his kidnapping of Katsuki, where he claimed to offer freedom to Katsuki, but had, in fact, forcibly kidnapped him and held him in chains. While he did remove the chains, claiming Katsuki needed to be treated as an equal, it was an entirely performative action, as he didn't actually let Katsuki refuse him. When Katsuki attempted to, Shigaraki returned to replicating his own abuse by attempting to recapture Katsuki and force him into doing what he wanted. In this essay, I will-

Why do y’all forget Nico di Angelos character is NOT about being gay. Like yes, it’s awesome he was one of the first LGBTQ representations Rick wrote about but....

You guys forget he is SUCH a powerful demigod. He’s a child of the big three. He’s not uwu gay smol sassy baby he’s LITERALLY the ambassador of Pluto and child of hades. He shadow travled the Athena Parthenos across the Atlantic. He TOOK the title ghost king away from KING MINOS. He was the one who gave Percy the idea of bathing in the river of Styx. He brought hazel to the land of the living, CHALLENGED KRONOS HIMSELF And FUCKING FOUGHT FOR HIS FATHERS PRIDE.

He does NOT hate everyone and obviously used to isolate himself due to his sisters death and his own internalized homophobia. No doubt he has some sort of ptsd from traveling in Tartarus alone and being locked in a Bronze JAR. HES SUCH A GOOD WELL WRITTEN CHARACTER AND YALL BE SLEEPING ON THATTTTTTTTT FUCK

I can go on and on about what Nico has done. He is one of the most badass demigods in the series and I’m kinda sick of him being reduced to SMOL GAY BABY UWU.

So I just went through your Soul Eater AU (*is totally not hyperventilating because crazy Iwaoi is life and black blood Kenma and Kuroo is a thing I need to breathe*) and I love the idea of a slowly going insane Oikawa and a helpless Iwaizumi (who doesn't know how to help or what's happening because Assikawa is being stupid and not telling him everything) who is very worried. What if, slowly, the insanity starts affecting him even when he's not a weapon, like it goes into his thoughts and (1/4)

starts tempting him, especially when he’s irritated or frustrated, and it eventually starts showing through with his actions and needs (because Oikawa’s masking game is strong but insanity is also strong too).

And then one day Iwaizumi finally figures it out but Oikawa denies it and then he snaps because of course Iwa-chan is gonna push at him all worried like and he ends up hurting him a little bit (or a lot) and of course Oikawa is horrified with himself so he runs away and Iwa tries to stop him but he can’t.

So Oikawa runs and since he’s horrified and distressed, his insanity spikes up again. Which leads to mayhem and maybe Oikawa gets manipulated just a little bit because he’s so bloodthirsty at that point.

As for Ushiwaka, I like the idea of him being a witch and a previous “rival” (more Oikawa is insecure because he still can’t beat Ushiwaka one on one) who otherwise seemed boring and innocent only for him to turn around and betray them because Oikawa started getting suspicious and when he found out he hunted Ushiwaka with Iwaizumi just by themselves.

And then Ushiwaka hurts Iwaizumi and rubs it in Oikawa’s face that he’s weaker as he is (kinda matching with ‘you should have come to shiratorizawa’ and replacing it with ‘you should have been more mad’ maybe?) And thus sets off Oikawa’s insanity. (As you can tell I have a problem with this and I’m in love with the idea of insanity lmao. Sorry for this ridiculous long thing, what even happened? *shot*)

(aaaAAAAA I’M SUPER DUPER SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY I WANTED TO ANSWER THIS PROPERLY BECAUSE I’M SO??? Your ask made me so so excited dude I’m on fIRE dON’T BE SORRY FOR THIS MASTERPIECE LEMME GIVE YOU A HUG)

kevin day counts down to 0 in time for the new year to come, he counts back in french while sitting between jean and jeremy on the beach, he counts holding both of their hands and relishing in the feel of pure serenity.

he’s not broken bones or freshly cut wounds, he’s not the array of scars that litter his body, hes not the tormented thoughts and defeated number 2 on his cheek.

he’s kevin day and he’s the one who survived, not riko.

he’s kevin day and he’s going to be the best of the best, going to stand proud with another gold olympic medal.

he’s kevin day and he’s the happiest he’s ever been to claim another year of sobriety. he’s been sober for 10 years, he’s drinking a soft drink, smiling when jeremy offers him a chocolate bar and leaning against jean.

he’s kevin day and he won’t stop moving forward and loving his family, his friends or his partners

You can’t tell me Nicky and Aaron didn’t invent code names for each upperclassman so they could talk shit about them in German without attracting any attention if they said their names.
