oikawa tooru

hc that the fandom usually makes oikawa this self-centered, arrogant ho who LOVES taking selfies but that couldn’t be further from the truth? in reality oikawa’s just as or even more insecure than the other characters. his camera roll even shows that he loves his nephew more than pictures of himself. he constantly pushes and overworks himself, blinded by his own thoughts of having to defeat ushiwaka, surpass tobio-chan, etc. he puts on a charming, confident smile for his fans but later, when he’s alone with iwaizumi, he pours everything out. iwa is the only person to really take him seriously, not as a competitor or a superior, but as a friend. iwa’s aggressive comments aren’t there to make him feel worse, but are literally words to force oikawa into believing in his talented, powerful, intelligent, and caring self.

he worked SO HARD and pushed himself to his limits to defeat karasuno. he hardly sleeps and got injured, but would do it all for volleyball. he’s such a talented and dedicated player with a dream of defeating his longtime rival, ushiwaka, but it all got crushed by the team of his former kouhai: someone he envies too. that match against karasuno was his last to prove that going to aoba johsai wasn’t a mistake. he was so close to meeting his rival again on the court, only to be defeated before that chance. he’s no doubt one of the most talented and smart people who deserved to experience more and go to nationals. nothing would make him happier than his efforts not being wasted.

also, the fact that the last point of karasuno was because oikawa tried to receive the ball but failed is DEVASTATING. if it had worked, he could have saved his team and his pride. he could do so much more; he was incredible as a player and was a great person in general as he was able to bring out the best in whatever team he was on. he was SO CLOSE to winning and he exerted so much, god, in playing volleyball, a sport he genuinely loved. oikawa tooru deserved to go to nationals and more and u can fuckin fite me on this if u disagree

also he and iwa are going to different universities which means that oikawa doesn’t have anyone he can really trust to get him out of a tight spot. iwa was his go-to person to set to when the receive was off or their opponents were particularly hard to play against. his volleyball career may not be over, and god i hope it isn’t, but he will never feel that same comfort again when playing as compared to when he was with the person he trusted most.

tl;dr oikawa tooru deserves better and his efforts shouldn’t have gone to waste

jean moreau and kevin day were each others’ first loves

a few years after neil and andrew go pro and the minyard-josten rivalry is put to rest, they decide to come out

the rivalry was fun while it lasted but really, andrew and neil just want to be able to be together without having to pretend that they hate it each other (because they don’t, quite the opposite actually)

so they hold a press conference with a trusted reporter (one neil can actually get along with. there’s only minimal banter) and they reveal to the public that they’re in a relationship, have been since college actually

and there’s a lot of backlash

a lot of bad backlash

it sparks a discussion that not only affects neil and andrew, but affects every single lgbtqia+ player in the league

should homosexuality be allowed in sports?

exy isn’t as bad as football, but it’s still not great for lgbt players. especially players who are out and planning (or are, in andrew and neil’s case) to go pro

neil is FUMING. andrew is a bit disappointed, but mostly irritated. he wanted to be left alone but now he can’t go anywhere without a microphone being shoved into his face

andrew and neil are hounded by press for weeks. when they play, slurs are hurled at them like grenades

they’re not allowed to give interviews after games anymore (reporters don’t care about the game, and put neil josten in front of a camera when he’s already on edge and pissed off and you will dearly regret it. andrew simply flips off every camera he sees, which is also not good)

neil gets benched for two games after punching a reporter in the face after they said something compeletly insensitive

there is even talk circulating about not letting andrew or neil play at all, at least for the rest of the season

it’s really, really bad

kevin told them this would happen. it’s easier to be straight while playing exy. kevin knows this, and he told andrew and neil that this would happen

but they’re his friends, his teammates, his family

and he can’t stand by and listen to the horrible things said to them or let them be kicked out of the league

andrew is the best goalie to ever exist and neil is a phenomenal striker. barring them from exy simply because they are in love just isn’t right

and it’s time for kevin to face some things about himself as well

so when kevin is asked to hold a press conference with all the big-name exy associates, he has never felt so nervous since college when he told the world the truth about his broken hand and who his father really is

kevin walks into the room, lined with reporters and people responsible for every pro team in america. cameras start flashing immediately

this is kevin day, olympic champion kevin day, son of exy kevin day

he’s easily the most influential person in that room. queen

kevin walks through the room of reporters and cameras and ignores all the questions thrown his way like a queen ignores the people below him

“kevin, kevin day, what are your thoughts on teammates minyard and josten coming out? do you support them?”

“do you think they should be allowed to continue playing?”

“answer the question, mr. day.”

and kevin signals out one, single reporter. the man perks up because he, out of all the reporters in the room, has caught the attention of this exy legend

this is live, broadcasted across the entire country, the entire world, even, and everyone is on the edge of their seats because kevin day is about to speak

“kevin day, should lgbt exy players be barred from the game?”

kevin leans in close to the microphone, his eyes never wavering from the camera trained on his face and says:

“i’m bisexual.”

Polo is a stammerer

Have you guys noticed how Polo obviously have stammer problems?? It was something very loosely implied but Carla’s dad point it out how his moms have spent a shit ton of money on speeching therapists (on episode 3) and throughout the whole show you can see moments where he obviously stammer.

During the flashback fight with Guzman you can also see that he wears glasses. I’m guessing he was probably bullied bc of these problems… and maybe thats one of the reasons why he is so shy and submissive 🤔

GOD why do people always overlook the way Kevin cared for Neil and Andrew like yes he had ONE obsession and ONE goal in the world but ???? He still had space in his heart for more!!!

Need I remind you that Kevin was willing to teach Neil every single night even though he knew Neil planned to die at the end of the year? That he told Neil he’d watch him if he wanted to drink so that he could let go for a while? That he believed in Neil’s talent 100% and wanted him to have a bright future?

Need I remind you how it was Kevin who first showed Andrew he was good for something? Who made him have the tiniest bit of hope that life wasn’t going to be a never-ending cycle of “waking up, wanting to die, going to sleep, waking up again”? That it was Kevin who put his life, his career, his survival on Andrew’s hand with almost-blind trust? Who gave Andrew purpose?

Kevin day cares SO. MUCH. And yes, Exy was going to be his #1 priority always, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t care about anything or anyone else. He cared about Andrew and he cared about Neil and they cared about him too. STOP OVERLOOKING THAT.

And just like that, you’re questioning yourself. You hate this or that about yourself. You can’t stand to look at yourself. Maybe you should stop hanging out with this person or maybe you should stop doing this-

Don’t forget that under all that hair and skin, you have the same make-up, you are a human. Act like it.

Hurting another human being to the point where they have to take a break from social media is not okay. Hurting another human being to the point that they think twice before they say something or even do something is NOT okay.

A fact: celebrities don’t owe you anything. It is not their fault you liked their content, that is on you. They don’t need to act on your beck and call so stop telling them what to do or not to do. Joshua Rush doesn’t need to stop hanging out with Ethan Wacker. He doesn’t need to stop having political beliefs. He’s just a kid, let him live his life. The bad jokes that Kevin Hart made ten years ago don’t define him, he’s a changed man. If he wants to host the Oscars, let him. If Finn Wolfhard refuses to autograph something, he doesn’t have to because he has no obligation too. Like I said before, he’s just a kid and doesn’t have to do anything but live his life.

And here’s another fact: for every millions of praising comments a person receives, it’s that one hateful comment that sticks by them. It’s that one comment that catapults them into hurt and depression. That is the cold hard fact.

So think hard the next time you spurt out something that is ugly and awful because you might be making that smile disappear, you might be hurting someone deeply, you might be pushing someone over the edge.

Change your ways.

Be kinder.

Understand.

Appreciate and praise more.

Support and protect.

so Nicky’s in the bank withdrawing some money for groceries or something and he almost faints.

He and Eric were not poor at all, Eric’s job paid well and Nicky’s own job wasn’t too shabby.

But there was no way they had accumulated this much money without either of them noticing. It was an obscene amount.

Nicky spends the next hour talking with Erik over the phone, hashing out their deposits and their withdrawals together and they come to the conclusion that it must be a mistake.

So Nicky goes to the bank teller who leads him to one of the bankers and they determine that someone else deposited the money, someone whose named Andrew Minyard.

Half a world away, Andrew picks up his phone to his cousin sounding confused.

“Andrew you accidentally deposited a shitload of money in our account, how do we send it back?”

“No, that was on purpose. Keep it.”

“What?”

So Andrew thinks he gets paid way too much for what he’s doing.

He’s just smacking a ball around with a stick.

Even though he is more invested in the sport now, cares more, that’s still not a whole lot.

So on his free time, he calculated the cost of taking care of him and Aaron for the time Nicky had.

And sent the money over.

The moment Nicky heard this he started crying.

So now Andrew has Nicky crying on the phone, for what has to be the second time since they separated.

Nicky has to explain that not only do they not need the money, but Andrew also doesn’t need to pay for anything Nicky gave him and that him taking care of Aaron and Andrew wasn’t a transaction or a deal. It was just him loving them and trying to let them have a less shitty childhood than they already had.

It takes a lot of Andrew grunting not happily and Nicky sniffling and even putting Eric on the line to convince Andrew.

So now what do they do with the money?

They agree to donate it

Half goes to charities that help abused kids get help

Half goes to a charity that’s working to ban conversion therapy and help lgbt kids

So they have to hang up, cause Andrew was to go to practice soon and Nicky has to go figure out that much money

Before they hang up Andrew goes quiet and Nicky thinks that he already hung up before

“Nicky.”

Nicky pays close attention, sure that he’s going to try to convince him again or something

“Thank you.”

Andrew immediately hangs up and Nicky wants to cry again

Luke Mullen Appreciation

I know this has been said before, but can we all appreciate the gem that is Luke Mullen?  This kid was minding his own business thinking he was just going to be this minor character, probably not around for much in terms of storytelling.

Imagine being a young actor with no expectations for a role—one of his first, and as that role progressed being asked to be a part of something so huge.  First off, what Terri(and Luke) have done with TJ is amazing, regardless of his sexuality(namely TJ being such a complex and sensitive human).  Seriously, this kid is the king of subtle but impactful facial expressions.    

But secondly, assuming Tyrus ends up being a thing, he’s taken it in such stride.  You hear stories of so many actors(Gavin Macintosh and Hayden Byerly[and to a lesser extent Kalama Epstein] come to mind most immediately for obvious reasons) being asked to take a part of these historic roles, and not only having to carry the weight of what those roles mean, but being comfortable enough with themselves to portray these characters with the gravity they deserve.  Not to mention the actors themselves are so young playing characters that are even younger, it speaks to their maturity.  Obviously we are at a place in society now where variances in sexuality is more accepted and portraying varying sexualities is not as big a deal, but still.  At the end of the day, it’s a huge weight, knowing how much these representations, in such young characters, mean to people.

Luke obviously can’t address it publicly yet, but I wonder what was going through his mind when he was informed that this was where TJ’s character was headed.  Being such a young actor(both in age and experience) and not only being asked to play an LGBT character, but to be a part of such a young historic coupling is a huge deal and he and Josh have carried that weight so incredibly and so respectfully.  People praise Josh all the time and he deserves it, but seriously, Luke is a gem too.  Especially considering how little he’s allowed to talk about it.

Also, on a less serious note, TJ now has 3 lookbacks.  I’m shook.

Mr. Infodump.

You get him started on something he’s invested in, he can talk for hours.

Unfortunately, the majority of the Foxes just… do not give a shit.

So, he actually spends most of his Bee time just talking about his interests.

Bee let’s him talk about whatever he wants, it’s his hour.

Sometimes, he’ll rant about Neil or the other Foxes for the entire time, and ends up with a really dry throat afterwards.

He loves his alone time; watching Exy, listening to music, reading.

Sometimes goes mute due to anxiety, and the Foxes interpret it as him giving them the silent treatment…

Doesn’t like conflict, as a rule. He’ll have fights with Neil all the time, but only because Neil is so aggravating when he’s wrong. That’s also why he fought with Seth, a lot.

Other people are just… so stressful?? It’s easier to be alone.

He’d really like to actually be friends with people, though. He wishes Neil was more understanding of his point of view, instead of dismissing him as a coward.

He really wants to be friends with Dan, too, but he also kind of hates her for casting him out.

It’s complicated. He has very complicated emotions towards other people. Sometimes, he can’t tell if he’s being over dramatic or if someone else really is that bad.

He loves calling Thea or Jeremy, because they’re always willing to talk Exy.

He stims! He stims all the time. He loves to bounce his leg or click his fingers. When no one’s around, he shakes a hand or both up and down like a jazz hands motion.

He can’t bounce his leg in the Maserati because it shakes the whole car.

I like the idea of Neil being Autistic, because it’s actually really common for us to not get a long all the time, because your different needs and opinions clash. Trust me, both my brother and I have Asperger’s and we drive each other insane with it.
