Every time I think about it, I'm like "I need to watch it again to catch more info cause I feel like I'm missing things"

Now that I've basically came to the same point at which the anime stopped

I think the anime gave a little more for the characters, like:

Haruichi having Dad Problems (and Subequently calling him to see if he could get any help to Kafka) (Aoi also being there and trying the same thing)

The salute to the transport van (and Hoshina Totally fucking Lying about saluting their commander)

It gives them a little more empathy and a little more time that I do appreciate. It feels cohesive, they have been fighting and training together. The anime in that sense gave them more of that "team" feel.

(I kind love the fact that there is no Doubt in Kafka. No one is Ever doubting his humanity. )

There is a hard switch in that goes "I have nothing to live for" and "there are so many things to live for"

And, depressingly, they do not contradict themselves

I watched Kaiju №8, the anime.

And what endeared me to it, truly, was the genuine and wholesome heroism of Kafka.

I remember the scene in the last episode, as Kafka wakes up after getting his ass pummeled, viscerally destroying his own body.

He looks at the man that Hurt him, the father of a person he admires.

Kikoru's dad's first reaction is to say "Don't be scared, I'm not here to kill you." Logical. Cause that was that the Motive looked liked.

Kafka's first reaction is, WITH RELIEF, "I'm glad you aren't hurt or else I wouldn't be able to look Kikoru in the eye."

There is a couple more things that endeared me to this story, even though it is so similar to many others told (Almost cried in the first fucking episode over the friendship). But I feel like that one just made it solid.

I enjoy people analyzing these characters!! I think there is a lot of moments with Characters and their Relationship that are can be so interesting!! And Fun!!

Then I go to read it and it's Another fake death, another kind of Deus Ex Machina moment of "They, This random thing? Yeah, it happened and it saved everyone when you thought there was no hope!"

It feels like the rug is pulled from under me, you know? There is no tension for me, although it feels like there should be? I know the characters will get out and I'm not interested How because I know that whatever Idea I have will be like "Haha! Lied to again! This thing that you expected to happen? Nope! This COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THING HAPPENS"

And there is a little bit of that casino mindset of "well I already put so many hours and emotions in, how can I not finish?"

Headcanon that as a child, Kunikida wasn't allowed to have a lot. He learned not to ask for things because the answer would always be "no" or "we got you ___, be grateful for that" (it's always something bare minimum that they mention).

He threw himself into becoming the perfect child for his parents, perfect grades, perfect behavior, perfect everything. But some time when he was a teenager, the question of "what do you want when you get older?" came up in class. Not exactly "what do you want to be," but "what do you WANT?"

that got Kunikida thinking.

He's learned not to want anything, tangible or not. It's an unwritten rule within his household. He took what he got and was grateful for it.

When he got home, he took out a piece of paper and started writing. He wrote about what kind of person he wanted to be. The type of things he wanted to do. What he wanted to teach people he met. Everything. Eventually he wrote so much that he had to staple multiple papers together. This whole thing made Kunikida feel so... fresh. He felt like he had an outlet.

He was asking himself for things that would be achieved over time. Kunikida would improve upon and create his Ideal.

Like, I consciously understand that there is probably a market for stuff with these tropes for people who aren't as deeply engaged with fandom or just want to read Original work and just like the tropes.

If you are not already aware, a user by the name of nyuuzyou has posted every AO3 work numbered 1 through 63200000 that was not archive locked to the AI website Hugging Face in a public dataset. This means every work published as of March of this year that isn’t archive-locked is in that dataset.

I strongly advise going to nyuuzyou’s archiveofourown dataset on Huggingface.co and creating a discussion thread reporting the work IDs of your fics to have them taken out of the dataset. As of writing this, 16 discussion threads have been opened, 14 of which are copyright infringement claims from authors, one of which is my own claim.

This dataset has already been an attempted takedown by HF staff, but nyuuzyou filed a counterclaim and the dataset went back up.

Its almost surprising it took so much time for the spiral to finally close in on itself.

I enjoy his character for it. And I also enjoy the tiny amount of libiration he gets at the end of season 1.

Some thoughts on Gino.

I’ve been reading PP Novel and I have been thinking about his character. I noticed that it is quite easy to forget that he’s even there, because S1 Gino’s struggles are internal. We see characters like Kou, Akane, Pops etc because their struggles are external. We see them taking action or behaving for/against the system.

Gino is a complex character bc he doesn’t want to doubt the system. He believes that the system is perfect, and he has issues with his father for going against the system. I notice that he puts pressure on himself to be the ideal citizen, who hides all their stress and keeps their PP clear while serving a demanding job of an Inspector.

Gino excludes anything that ‘doesn’t fit in his system, or in Sibyl’. It includes behaving harshly with Ko, Pops and Akane. His internal emotions of betrayal and the feeling that everyone is leaving his side surface as lashing out and criticism of those around him.

In the novel I find out that he was bullied as a child due to his father’s job, all the way to high school where Kogami defended him from his bullies. Kogami was the only one to reach out and accept him despite him being a child of a latent criminal. Gino thought Kogami was his best friend and it was Gino’s dream to become an Inspector and Kogami ends becoming an Inspector on a whim. There’s also a point in the novel where he thinks their friendship was one sided and that Kogami did not care about him. Gino often deals with feelings of jealousy against Kogami (PP Zero) as Sasayama observes and is often working under Kogami’s shadow, since Kogami is popular for his intelligence and proactive approach. Due to which I think most viewers/readers underestimate Gino’s true intellect.

I cannot really talk about Gino without involving Kogami, Akane and Pops. His relationship to them is fundamental to how he sees the world. I noticed that Gino was trying very hard not to become like his father. His outward rejection of Pops, was like a rejection of a part of himself. He wanted to deny the side that would eventually suspect the system, and he was self critical to the point of it being detrimental to his mental health.

He often judges Kogami for his close ties with other Enforcers (Sasayama becomes a huge bone of contention between the two in PP Zero). Gino repeatedly warns Kogami not to get too close to the Enforcers and eventually ends up feeling betrayed and alone after Kogami becomes an Enforcer. I wonder was Gino’s warning wrong? It’s easy to dismiss him because of character bias, but was his precaution and his careful approach towards Enforcers wrong?

I must highlight that even Akane ends up letting him down. I believe that when Akane joined the PSB, Gino thought he would have a partner that would help him manage the Division with his vision in mind. Akane however ends up going against Ginoza when she gets too close to the Enforcers and this is something that Gino disapproves of because he doesn’t want Akane to become like Kogami or his father. He worries a lot about Akane and we notice that even she disregards him and is not concerned about the impact her actions would have on him.

Gino worries about everyone, but no one worries about him. Pops tries but Gino doesn’t want to acknowledge him. Kogami is too wrapped up in chasing Makishima. Akane is too focused on her values and ideals of the Law. And Gino’s Psycho Pass keeping going up dangerously but no one notices the impact that their actions have on Gino. As a senior Inspector Gino fails to command the respect of his Enforcers or even his peers. It’s not a nice situation to be in.

Inside him there is still that child that felt neglected when his father became an Enforcer, and he had to take care of his mother who was sick due to Eustress Deficiency.

Gino wants to be an Inspector and he has the ability to solve crimes and enforce the law. He is a brilliant detective like his father. He wants to advance in the Ministry of Welfare. But after 8 years of his term, Kogami leaves the PSB. Gino’s PP rises and after his father’s death it is irrecoverable. He becomes an Enforcer. It’s not a bad ending because he’s still working with Akane but Gino’s life makes you think that if the Sibyl System owes an apology to one person it would be Gino. I definitely classify him as an innocent victim of the system, where he really did nothing wrong. He didn’t rebel. He didn’t argue or question the system. He was the citizen that the System failed.

And if a system keeps failing its law abiding innocent citizens should such a system be protected?

Honestly my heart aches for Gino, I think he deserves a happy ending.

Like, there have been so many fake outs, so many cliffhangers only for the character to come back next chapter or in some time. And I just... don't know.
