another groan accompanies her words, fitz turning his body to face jemma on the floor, only lifting up the pillow so he could see what she was doing, “ we’re out of prosciutto. “
“ oh, fitz, ” she sighed with a shake of her head. the fond smile broke through as she propped her chin up in her hand and looked up at him. “ is that really worth all the dramatics? we’ll get more soon, i’m sure. ”
“ you’re debating the interest of a documentary that you didn’t even watch ?! “ fitz shook his head, standing up from his space, “ it was very interesting & you would have enjoyed the sentimental drivel if you weren’t so bloody english. “ he sighed, clearly annoyed. but no disinterested in her proposal for how to spend their evening, “ nothing with plankton. “
“ if i couldn’t watch it, it wasn’t interesting! that’s just obvious! besides, i wasn’t going to SAY anything about it. because i’m considerate of your choices when it’s your turn to pick. ” arms crossed over her chest defensively as he stood. “ i resent that accusation. i can appreciate sentiment, fitz! ” she shook her head in disapproval, but she knew the disagreement would be forgotten within the next few minutes. “ what do you want for dinner? ”
fitz couldn’t help rolling his eyes at her, putting down his padd on the table before his hands fly up in agitation, “ that’s not the point !! it was showing how monkeys are an evolved species & are able to form strong familial bonds, unlike many other species. were you even watching it ?! “
jemma paused, thinking back to the night in question. if she were going to be honest, she’d definitely started zoning out very early on to that documentary, but she wasn’t sure if she was going to admit that. lips pursed together and she hesitated to answer before rolling her eyes back. “ IF i didn’t watch, it must not have been a very captivating story. but if you’re going to cause such a fuss i suppose we could have a conversation before we decide on what to watch. ”
jemma hardly spared him a glance from her spot in front of the sofa, sprawled out on the floor as she enthusiastically took notes on the article she was reading and fought off a teasing grin. “ can you at least tell me why you’re so grumpy if you’re going to be this dramatic about it? ”
his head’s covered by a pillow, muffling the groan he makes from the sofa, body flat against the cushions.

“ nothing about the evolution of photosynthetic eukaryotes to modern plankton is fascinating. “ his look is pointed, eyebrows raised. no one else would disagree with him, his voice rising in volume. “ no- definitely not !! that documentary on chimpanzees was riveting !! when he found his mum ?? heart warming. “
her lips parted in shock at his distaste, eyes rolling as his voice raised. only he would be so resistant to a perfectly riveting documentary about the evolution of single-celled eukaryotes! “ oh please, ” she scoffed, her volume increasing instinctually to match his. “ micropaleontology is a fascinating field! far more engaging than a silly reunion story. all the actual information was drowned out by the storytelling!! what’s the point in that? ”
eyes drift up from his padd, “you had me at dinner. but is this going to be about types of plankton again ?? i can’t sit through that a second time, jemma. “
brows furrowed and her back straightened from where she’d been perched over a microscope to meet his gaze. “ no, it’s a new one. about cuttlefish. but even if it was, that one was fascinating! ” she frowned. “ as if you’d pick anything better! i could hardly stay awake last time you were in charge. ”
“ what are you doing tonight? i was thinking about watching this oceans documentary i’ve had my eye on for awhile. i’ll make dinner if you want to join. ”
