"Almost Christmas" means it wasn't Christmas!
Happy Almost Christmas everybody
Bringing this post back because I've played soj now and the similarities keep piling up
Stupid
Only straight man
Mcs childhood best friend
No bitches
Both make books for children
I am so convinced that they are actually the same person
Mick Mecury and Larry Butz give off the same vibes
Mick Mecury and Larry Butz give off the same vibes
There’s also a fan theory/crackship that is Larry and Franziska, based on their dynamic by the ‘Investigations’ games, and how by ‘Spirit of Justice’ Larry had actually convinced her to model for him for his picture book series, from which he became Spencer Shay-level rich.
As a crackship I think that’s HILARIOUS and I love it. It’s also super cute to see Franziska open up to more people and form genuine friendships/relationships, especially with someone like Larry.
ok ok ok so recently i've been playing through the ace attorney games (i haven't started three yet but i remember most of the plot bc of the anime) and for some reason i wanted to take a shot at what an "accurate" no DL-6 AU would look like! I just think it's interesting to see what might've actually happened if DL-6 never happened bc DL-6 is kinda the major butterfly effect in the AA world. Idk if i wanna make this an actual AU or just a ramble on how the series would be completely different without DL-6 lmao. We'll see! Maybe you guys decide :D anyway MAJOR AA TRILOGY SPOILERS AHEAD
I'll start with the characters. Gregory Edgeworth would still be alive, Miles would become a defense attorney & work with his father at his law firm. Phoenix would most likely pursue his artist career. Narumitsu/Wrightworth tbh would still happen bc they need to be canon PLEASE CAPCOM. Just that there would be no rivalry.
Anyway the Dahlia case would've been so different but also kinda the same without DL-6. It was because of DL-6 that Misty Fey left Kurain Village and Mia also left to become a defense attorney. Without Mia, it would've most likely only been Diego Armando taking on the first Dahlia case with Terry Fawles. Fawles would probably still commit suicide, and I believe Diego still would've investigated Dahlia further & gotten poisoned by her, but without Mia becoming a defense attorney & being killed by Redd White in 1-2, Diego would've never had a reason to become Godot so he probably would've stayed as a defense attorney. Furthermore, without Mia it most likely would've been Miles taking Phoenix as a client in 3-1 bc childhood friends never losing touch bc no DL-6 (you get the point lmfao).
Like, I think about maybe half the cases in the original trilogy would've NEVER happened if DL-6 never happened bc we would've never met Mia or Maya or Pearl, Yanni Yogi wouldn't need to take out his revenge, Von Karma wouldn't have been arrested, Franziska would've never wanted revenge so she most likely would've never come to Japanifornia, I think the only person that would never change is fucking LARRY and that's honestly the craziest part LMAO.
agh i'm getting kinda tired bc it's late so i'll probably finish this ramble tomorrow. there's so much I wanna talk about but my mind is going at like 1000 mph so I need to get my thoughts together lmfao
TLDR: DL-6 is the butterfly effect for the entire ace attorney world & many of the characters we know and love wouldn't even exist/be introduced if it weren't for it.
EDIT: removed the censor for suicide bc apparently tumblr is weird and idk how it works (please be nice ab me making mistakes next time I didn’t appreciate you guys basically yelling at me)
if you make a no dl-6 au with phoenix as an artist and miles as a defense attorney i think you should consider the trio (larry the artist, phoenix the defense attorney and miles the prosecutor) basically switching places and make larry a prosecutor in this au just for the fun of it and for a sense of completion. and for me also
hi im gonna try to post here since insta is being rude have fun with all my references
Ohh, I really like concept art of characters!
How interesting their concepts were-
Wait-
Wait a minute
HOL UP-
Did I ever mention that I really like Pixel Art?
I made these on Dotpic, the last two being event bases. (I'm proud of how I did Larry tho tbh)
Look at my lawyer dawg I'm going to jail
Realising that if Gumshoe thought Wright was Larry Butz, there is a very real chance that Edgeworth a. Didn’t know he was going up against Wright until the trial started, and b. Thought he was going against LARRY BUTZ
No worries! It's pretty easy to miss.
Basically in Bridge to the Turnabout, Larry himself implies that two of his previous girlfriends have hit him. This is what he says when he's on the stand testifying about witnessing the lightning strike:
Yeah, I don't think there's any other way to interpret these lines. Poor Larry... someone needs to teach him what a healthy relationship is like.
Currently halfway through Bridge to the Turnabout and no one told me I'd end up feeling bad for Larry. I feel like the developers made it their mission to hate on him specifically. And honestly out of every Ace Attorney character with trauma that gets unaddressed, why does it feel like Larry gets treated the worst by the game.
Everyone thinks he's useless and annoying. But I think the judge was correct when he said Larry has "quite a severe inferiority complex". Larry casually drops that he's been physically abused by two of his ex-girlfriends, but seems to think it's perfectly fine. He seems to believe he's utterly worthless and that he makes people "eternally unhappy". But he never changes because he suppresses his trauma so hard that he forgets about them. He actually feels so bad for screwing up in The Stolen Turnabout but instead of genuinely working on himself, he adopts a new identity because he can't stand himself probably.
But AA1 clearly shows that Larry is not "useless" or a "nuisance". After all Phoenix also wanted to repay Larry for defending him during the class trial. And not to mention Larry saved Edgeworth with his testimony in 1-4. Oh Larry you'll always be a part of the signal samurai trio.
When I think about Larry in AA3 I wonder if the writer suddenly decided they didn't like him that much and decided to make it known in the game to the point where it bleeds to the characters (both Phoenix, especially him! and Edgeworth seem to see him as the 'annoying ass friend') and himself by flanderizing him or if this was an genuine decision to see how a person's life can go downhill over time and tried to make it funny.
Honestly I think it's the former (writers decided they didn't like Larry anymore), because I don't necessarily think Larry's life is going downhill. He found his talent in art with a mentor and he's attempting to become a better person... only for his mentor to then die. If it were anyone else this would spark some sort of meaningful character arc... but it doesn't. The game just turns Larry into more of a laughing stock. I don't get it, truly. They drop so much information about his trauma but it's treated like a joke. Phoenix and Miles don't even act like they care about him as a friend anymore... just why??
Also I do believe writers' attitudes towards characters often bleed into the writing and then bleed into fan perception.
