Ivan knew before the blonde even walked in the room that he would be greeted by a snarky comment. The woman was too predictable. Though, nevertheless, a smirk crossed his face. “I am good at this. They don’t usually fight back.” He rolled his eyes, leaning back against the counter with a light groan. Thankfully it had just been his face in the cross fire. Ivan knew the damage a pair of knuckle dusters could do in the wrong hands, or even the right ones for that matter. Had they have gone for the ribs, he may have a fractured bone or two, putting the rest of his contracts in jeopardy. “Someone must have tipped him off, he knew I was coming.” Ivan mused, hissing as she began to work on the stitches. Eyes rolled in response to her quip, a hand then moving to lie flat over his chest. “You wound me, dear..” The pet name was one that he used often for the woman, perhaps even more so than her actual name.
Elsie tried to hide the smirk that tugged at her lips. “I’m not sure I believe you. I mean, I thought the big bad Ivan could handle anything. And now I find out you can only deal with them if they come willingly.” She whistled, shaking her head. Honestly, she still found him impressive. She knew personally the type of people they dealt with and for the male to come away with just a cut and a few grazes was admirable. “ублюдки.” The blonde muttered as she continued to work away at his stitches. A grin broke across her face as he pretended to be hurt by her words. “Don’t act like you have a heart.” She quipped back, pausing briefly as she looked up, winking at him. “и сделано”

Injuries came hand in hand with the title of enforcer. Though, Ivan was usually the one inflicting the injuries and throwing the punches instead of having them thrown back at him. A cut eyebrow and busted lip was all the man had walked away with, though it was more than he was used to. The men he fought didn’t usually fight back. Hence, why he’d been taken off guard, and why the other had managed to get a few stray punches in. Heading back to base with his tail between his legs, Ivan immediately made a b-line for the medical corner. Blood dripped down his face, pouring from the cut above his eye. The other man had somehow managed to clock him with a pair of knuckle dusters, making Ivan’s face not so pretty to look at right now. “Elsie, get in here!” He shouted for his protege, hissing as he cleaned the wound with rubbing alcohol. Gritting his teeth, he then ushered the woman over, grabbing a suture set. “Try not to ruin my face even more, huh.” He joked, holding out the set toward her.
It had been a long day. A long, boring day. Elsie had been stuck at the base for nearly forty-eight hours now. It was tedious, to say the least. She was used to coming and going as she pleased, never really one to fully follow the instructions she had been given, but she had pissed off one of her handlers after killing more people than they have instructed her to. Not to mention the fact she hadn’t killed them in the way that was ordered. In her defense, their way was too boring. If she was going to kill someone, she wanted to have some fun with it. When she heard her name being called, she immediately jumped up from her seat, enjoying the prospect of having something to occupy her time. Elsie followed the voice she suspected to be Ivan. A laugh erupted from her lips. “What the fuck happened to you?” She laughed once more. “I thought you were supposed to be good at this, no?” Elsie teased, raising a brow. To most, he would have seemed intimidating, maybe even scary, but the blonde was still yet to come across someone who stirred such feelings in her. Perhaps it was just the fact she had grown quite comfortable with the male. Plucking the suture kit from his hands, she placed it on the tray next to her as she picked up the suture needle and went to work on the cut. “I’m not sure that’s possible. It already looks pretty fucked up to me.” She tsked, her accent thick as she concentrated on the stitches.

Mollie couldn’t help but laugh in response to his comment, arching a brow in suspicion as she peered toward him through narrowed eyes. “So it seems the lies just keep flowing.” She teased, laughing lightly once again. It was rare that she wasn’t laughing when she was with Asher, in all honesty. The two of them just got along so well that it proved difficult to be anything other than happy in his presence. Hence, why he was her first port of call should she ever have any down days. Mollie pouted as he continued on with the affectionate speech. “Stop!” She elongated the word in a childlike manner, covering her face with both of her hands adorably, in hope of hiding just how crimson her face had turned. Turning on her heel, Mollie then wandered further into the apartment before then stopping peering back toward Asher. She could tell his comment had been a buffer, a way for her to leave the subject of his arrival alone, and she had no problems in doing that. Honestly.. Mollie was just happy he was there. “I see how it is. You have no problems spooning me when we’re drunk but when we’re sober its a whole other story. I see.” The girl teased, pouting once again.
Asher puffed his chest out as he acted shocked. “How very dare you! I can’t believe you continue to accuse me like this. I’m appalled, I really am.” He replied scoffing as he shook his head, trying to keep the smile off his face. A warm feeling settled within him, already feeling better now he was in Mollie’s presence. Things were always just so easy with them. The male laughed as she covered her face, complaining. Her embarrassment just made things even more fun. “Aw, don’t be like that. I’m just trying to tell you how much I care about you. C’mon, give me a hug, bestie.” Asher teased, laughing as he followed her further into the apartment before leaping forward, trapping her in his arms as he hugged her tightly. “I mean, I suppose I could let you share the bed with me, but only if I can be the little spoon.” He joked with a wink.

The man’s jaw tensed, the apologies falling on deaf ears as he stared her down. “After the attacks they put me in solitary most of the time to keep me safe, prison deaths make for a whole lot of paper work, so I’ve been told. I wrote to you as much as I could. The least you could have done was visit me.” Ivan shook his head, a hand then combing back through his hair as he took a step back away from her, his anger once again rising to the surface. “You knew what you were getting yourself into, I was nothing but honest with you. I told you who I was the very day we met. You should have expected that something like this would have happened eventually.” The thick Russian accent struggled and stumbled around every single word as his blood boiled. “You were my safe haven. You were my light in the dark. You were everything to me, Natalie. Now.. I have nothing. All because you were lonely.” Ivan shook his head once again, his words bitter and unrelenting. The man usually detached himself from such situations, he usually refused to allow himself to feel, but when it came to Natalie.. He couldn’t stop himself.
The tears were falling now. She couldn’t help but to feel sick as she heard Ivan recount his time in prison. The guilt flooded her. It was easy to push it away before. There was a distance between them, not to mention she had convinced herself he wasn’t coming back home to her. “Ivan, I tried to visit you! So many times. They wouldn’t let me see you. They said it was something to do with your paperwork. I just convinced myself that you didn’t want to see me.” Natalie stepped closer to him, wanting to comfort him somehow, to show him she still cared. “That was good enough for me at the time, but these past years have been hard. It made me realise I wanted a safer life - a stable one with someone who would always be around.” The blonde hated herself for what she was saying, but he deserved her honestly. “I’m sorry Ivan.”

The feeling in his chest was unfamiliar to Ivan, it was something that he’d never felt before nor did he ever want to feel again. Whatever it was, it made him feel weak. Being in the career he was, weakness was something that he shouldn’t have. The rest of his crew had warned him against getting involved with someone on the outside, yet he’d gone and done it anyway. That’s just the kind of person he was, when told to do something, you’d likely find him doing the complete opposite out of spite. As Natalie spoke, Ivan’s eyes softened momentarily. Her voice always had a way of soothing him when his anger got the better of him. Blinking, he then shook his head, once again letting his anger take hold. “You think I don’t know that? Five years I sat in my cell, giving up my reputation for you. I had inmates coming at me every day but I never fought back. Not once. For you. To get out early.. For you.” Ivan made his way toward her, searching her face for any sign of remorse. “After I gave myself up, after I let myself get beat down, this is how you repay me.”
Natalie looked down, feeling ashamed. She couldn’t face him. That look in his eyes. “I’m sorry Ivan, I really am. I never planned for any of this to happen. The last thing I wanted was to hurt you, but it had been so long since I heard from you.” Natalie tried to explain, even though she knew he wouldn’t understand. “I just needed someone, and I needed someone who was going to put me first. I was never your priority, and I knew that wasn’t going to change when you got out.” She could feel her face flushing as the tears rose to her eyes. She wiped them away angrily, annoyed at herself for getting so emotional.

Through squinted eyes Mollie peered out into the night air, catching the sight of Asher. “Dude.. It’s 2am. Also I literally saw you four days ago..” To answer his question.. yes. Tugging her large, fluffy, dressing gown tighter around her form, Mollie then listened to him continued to speak. Humming softly, she then lifted a hand, tapping her forefinger against her chin lightly, as though she were thinking about his comment. Huffing, she then stepped aside. “If I so much as find a wet towel left on the bathroom floor, you’re out.” The stern look wasn’t a good one for the petite woman, considering she stood a solid foot shorter than her friend, and the fact that she could barely keep a straight face, she broke almost immediately. Moving back into the apartment she shared with a few of her college study buddies, Mollie then began to speak once again. “You wanna tell me what happened.. Or rather why you’re on my door step at two in the freaking morning?”
Asher gave a sheepish grin. “Is it really? I had no idea.” He fibbed rather blatantly. “Four days ago feel like a lifetime when it comes to being separated from my best friend.” The male replied, attempting to shmooze his words and a charming smile. He laughed as she pretended to consider what he had asked. Asher nodded “Noted. No wet towels on the floor, but boxers are fine, right?” He teased with a wink as he stepped into the apartment. “Nice dressing gown, by the way.” The dark-haired male told stated, closing the door behind him. “Pshh, it’s a long story. A boring one, if I’m honest.” Asher replied, keeping things vague. He had never been a fan of talking about his home life, even to one of his best friends.

Five years later, here he was finally outside those dull grey concrete walls he’d grown to call home. Luckily, he’d managed to get out on good behaviour. Ivan couldn’t even begin to imagine what it was like for those that had to spend a lifetime behind bars. But alas, even seeing the inside of a cell hadn’t stopped him from making his way straight back to the bratva. They were his family, from a young age he’d been raised them, they had taught him everything he knew and forged him to be the most brutal of all their enforcers. After linking up with his chosen family, Ivan’s next port of call was his lover.. He wondered if they had kept their promise. When the man had initially been captured, he had one phone call, and that one phone call was to them.. His lover had promised that they would wait, that they wouldn’t love again until he returned to them. Ivan knew there would be hell to pay if the promise had been broken. Making his way to the home which he knew to belong to the other, the Russian popped the collar of his leather jacket, licking his lips as he made an attempt at composing himself before knocking. Though, before he had chance to even walk up the driveway, he saw someone leave through the front door, placing a kiss to the lips of his significant other as the left. Fire burned behind the azure hues of the man as his hands balled into fists. “And here I thought promises were not so difficult to keep.” The man spoke out, the Russian twang to his accent evident through the anger in his words as well as the raised volume at which he spoke.
It had been five years. Five long years. She wasn’t even the one that had received the prison sentence, but it felt like it. After all, she’d lost the person she loved. Her life felt like it had been paused as she waited for him to return, yet somehow she had to carry on. Natalie had promised Ivan that she would wait for him, and she had meant it, but five years was a long time. She hadn’t meant for anything to happen. It was just two friends going for a few drinks or well, that’s all it was meant to be. The next thing she knew, she woke up in bed next to him. Natalie wanted to regret it but she didn’t. She’d been faithful and waited for nearly four years. She felt bad for cheating on Ivan, yet at the same time it didn’t seem fair that she had to wait five whole years for a man that continuedly picked a dangerous life style over her. Nothing would change when he got released, if he even got released. And so she had chosen herself for once. She owed it to herself to see where things went with Lucas. Yet, somehow, she couldn’t help the shock and the wave of emotions hit her as she heard Ivan’s voice. Gently pushing Lucas aside, she looked down the driveway, not quite believing her own ears. She looked at Ivan, mouth agape, not really knowing what to say. Natalie turned back to Lucas and told him to get back into the house. She could already hear the venom in Ivan’s voice and the last thing she wanted was him hurting Lucas. “Five years Ivan, it’s been five years.”

“Did you miss me?” Asher asked cheekily, a smirk clear as day on his features. He knew turning up unannounced wasn’t ideal, but he had few options left and so he found himself on their doorstep, hoping their last encounter wasn’t one that ended badly. “So, uh, I kinda need a place to crash for a bit.“
